Well, Zack Malibu and Teke are reading the board. It's a miracle he hasn't been banned yet. Spammer.
-
It's the truth. The Marlins are done. 4.5 back...losing more games than winning lately and there are only 17 games left. As Al said yesterday, they have a 3% chance of making the playoffs, and that was before two straight losses to the Braves. It's more like 1% now and fading every day. I wasn't being dramatic or unrealistic. They are done. EDIT: I find it a coincidence and a bit funny that I used by 1918th post to talk about a team having no chance of winning the World Series.

Just like that 4-0 Braves. I hate to be that cynical fan, but I think it's time to start praying for the stadium fairies to come up with $30 million dollars and for Loria to open his wallet for Pavano and at least one key free agent (that is assuming that things go to plan and LoDuca agrees to stay, which is almost a lock), because this season is over.
-
If Beckett doesn't get out of this jam, the game and the season is over. I hate to use hyperbole, but damn if it isn't true.
-
Wait, is it the real actors, or just really well done CGI of them? From the commercials, I thought it was all CGI but off of what I read, it sounds like real performances. What's the deal?

That's enough Austin. [/every Austin Powers girl]

I don't know any spammers, but if I did... I would turn them in in a second for 100k.

I knew Frank Tanana but I had no idea about Rick Reuschel. Milestone watch: Bonds hit #43 - 701 Ichiro has a hit today in the 6th inning with at least one more at bat.
-
For all the people who haven't seen 24, I avoided it for the first two seasons. Then last Christmas, my girlfriend got me season 1 on DVD and now I'm hooked. It really is that good. I'd recommend trying to catch it. Ditto for Curb Your Enthusiasm (obviously).
-
I've never seen Fight Club. I'm still trying to figure out how I managed to avoid it all this time.

Somewhere, the bizarro Anglesault is shaking his head in glee and agreeing with everying Al just said.
-
It's not just because it's Bonds, though. It's what he's DOING. If Cesar Crespo had a 55 game hitting streak, you'd never guess what would be on ESPN the next game...his every at bat, and people wouldn't exactly be clamoring for the great Cesar Crespo to get the elusive 56. It's the achievement, not the player. It's like arguing with a brick wall. And Staravenger, a HR record is wayyy more important than Yankees/Sox. Let me let you in a little secret. Really, no one who lives outside of the Northeast gives a shit until it happens in the postseason.
-
Considering that people watching the game probably (just a hunch) wanted to see the Yankees and/or the Red Sox play, uhm, yeah. You are officially the most myopic person who posts at this board, congratulations. Life exists outside of the Yankees and people want to see historic things happen. Not everyone has MLB extra innings.
-
I must be missing how showing a chance at a historic at bat makes Bonds more important that his sport. If anything, it enhances the sport. Oh, I'm sorry, it takes away from the Yankees, so of course it hurts baseball. Any perfect game, no hitter, 500th HR, 600th HR by any player is cut away to be shown. This is different how? The only thing I can see is that it cut into a Sox/Yanks game.
-
I honestly can't believe what I'm reading.
-
You guys have no appreciation for history, to the point where it's sickening. It is rather tiresome when they cut out for meaningless at-bats, but he just became the 3rd player in ONE HUNDRED years to hit 700 HRs. It's one of the most elusive things to do in sports. Yes, you cut out of the game for it. It transcends a single game. People here are so jaded and cynical about EVERYTHING, it's insanity.
-
And I'm thrilled I got to watch it live. Anglesault, you're incredibly biased and we all understand that, so I'm not even going to bother. It took, at most, 3 minutes out of the game, and me and countless others got to watch history unfold. If poor Yankee and Red Sox fans had to suffer for that, that's too bad.
-
As an aside, when Barry Bonds was chasing McGwire's record, he had 69 HRs and they cut away from every game to show his atbats, and I believe it was against the Astros. Every time they cut to the game, 4 fingers, Barry got IBB. Well, the 4th at bat, they cut back to the game, first pitch he saw the entire game...GONE. It was THAT much better because of watching all the other at bats...taking time out of what you were doing only to be disappointed. Then, they come back and you're expecting to be let down again and on the first pitch...there it goes. There is so much more to sports than the highlight package, and we have 15 pages of why ESPN sucks so much and we're all missing the most important point...that it's trained an entire generation of people who only live to see what happens on the highlights and doesn't give a shit about what happens inbetween. That's a shame.
-
There's a big difference between seeing the highlights and actually watching something as it happens. There's really no comparing the two. They showed McGwire's 62nd HR a million times, but I was glued to my TV watching the atbats just waiting for it to happen, because the buildup is just as important as the payoff. This is no different. They SHOULD show every at bat that goes for 700, 715 and 755
-
Shut up. It's history. Of course they are going to show and they SHOULD. 700 HRs hasn't been hit in my lifetime and I would like to see it done live, as would a ton of other people.
-
I'm thinking that after tonight's loss that if the Marlins don't win the last two against the Braves, they are finished. The pitching is depleted, the players are complaining about fatigue... it's just not looking good. I'm going to have to hope that management can hold this team together because after the trade they are 10 games over .500. I don't want to throw in the towel yet, because last time I thought like this they went on to win 9 in a row...but it's not looking good at all.
-
Logan Kensing is no-hitting the Braves through 3! Insignificant, yes, but it's only his second start and in his first game he didn't even make it this far... so I'll take it.
-
Yankees/Red Sox always have to play interesting games, don't they? HR overturned already, after Manny broke through the "offensive line" of Yankees and umpires while trying to get through to home plate.
-
In my wildest dreams, that man would be Miguel Cabrera. One, because he is my favorite player and two because I own a lot of things that would shoot up in price if he did it! Although I think that's an inattainable goal. I couldn't even begin to imagine the hype something like 800, 900, or God forbid 1000 HRs would generate on ESPN. They would probably just train a camera on the guy like the Truman Show...with running commentary from Stuart Scott Jr. "Look at the way he eats that ham sandwich. Booyalahlala. R.I.P. to my dad, the greatest TARHEEL of them all." (I am a Tarheel, and I HATE how big Stu big ups the Tarheels in every fucking sentence)

I have to say that this has my attention. I check the Mariners boxscore every night before I go to sleep, at that time they are usually in the 6th or 7th. Total combined times I've checked a Mariners boxscore in my life before this: 0 Total times after this season: (Probably) 0 I really really hope he does it. I also want Barry Bonds to hit 850 HRs, which puts me in an extreme minority on this board.
