I'm tired of hearing people on WIP saying this is a good team. It's a good team if the other team makes a lot of mistakes. This team really has no clue. McNabb needs to grow a pair and start calling his own plays because I'm sure he knows what it takes to get the ball in the end zone more than Marty. Hell, Andy sucks at playcalling, too. At least the Phillies won.

It's really not that bad. Come on.

can we turn this into a how can i decorate my room thread? or will that just be -**********?
-
Eh, now I am stuck with a filing cabinet rather than a nightstand table. This makes my room look quite homoriffic.
-
See, I don't get it. I figured I could make a topic in this forum about that. I've seen threads like this, so I figured I'm allowed to. Was that one of those "Great, why did you make a thread?" jab?

I bought a side table online and it came today and it was the biggest piece of shit ever. I decided to whack it with my forearm and now I have some numbness. I feel like Goldberg smashing that car window. EDIT to make this more worthwhile, i guess....

I think it's natural for me to backlash the things ESPN does. The reputation everyone gives Philadelphia fans is by far media driven, and not even remotely close to being accurate. Not so much the Cubs, but ever since the Red Sox won the WS in 2004, I've seen Sox fans popping up out of the woodwork. That is the most telltale sign of bandwagoners, and nothing is more embarassing to a fanbase than having so many frontrunners clog up the fanbase and open their mouths like they deserve it. I'd rather hear about the people who've been waiting 60, 70 years. Not the bandwagoners. Like my one classmate, she always rooted for the Yankees cuz her dad was a Yanks fan. She went to college in Boston, bam, all of a sudden she's a Red Sox fan after they win the WS. That kind of stuff is seemingly unforgivable to me. I bet if the Phillies go on to win the WS, our fanbase will have a ton of bandwagoners. It's the way the sports world is, so I expect a backlash to Philly and have fans start digging up ESPN reports of how horrible Philly fans are. I'm not saying I'm right or wrong in hating the Sox or Cubs fan base or team. Sometimes I hate the players on the team (Zambrano's a POS, JD Drew cannot stay healthy, etc.) Then it becomes easy to latch onto things said or heard to try and justify your position on why you hate a certain team or a fanbase. Sports is a hard business to try and be unbiased most of the time.

WWE General Discussion - October 2008
garfieldsnose replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
I would go on record to say the ratings are only important for them because they are important to the networks. They're making a pretty penny and have been doing great business. I think last year was their highest grossing revenue or something like that? -
This happens with ANY city that ends up with a long-term dominant sports franchise. I remember when I was in High School the Cowboys were everypne's favorite team all the sudden during the Aikman/Smith/Irvin Era. After a while everyone started turning on the team because they were sick of how Cocky Dallas fans were getting and sick of seeing the same team dominate every year. For me...Back before the Pats won it all, it was really awesome to experience 2001 and ALOT of people were jumping on the bandwagon and rooting for the Pats to finish the job and beat the diminant Rams. They were the most popular team in football all over the country because of how they won, and the fact that they had not won before. It was great being a fan and watching them, and seeing all the national support they got. Then, over the next few years they kept winning, and winning. It was still awesome for us Pats fans, but the rest of the country was sick of it. Added was the Red Sox championship and that just tipped the scales and made alot of people hate Boston fans and teams because yes, we got cocky. It's not a bad thing to get cocky and expect your favorite teams to win while they are on dominant streaks like the Pats, Sox, and now hopefully Celtics are on. At the same time the ire drawn from other teams' fans makes it even sweeter, for me anyways. I love the fact that other fans are angered by my favorite teams winning alot. It all depends on the situations. It's not like Boston fans care what other fans think of their teams anymore. Well then why is it hard for Cubs fans to see why people hate the Cubs? Sure they don't win championships, but for fuck sake's they are all over ESPN with their curse shit. I'm happy Boston reversed the curse because who knows what we would be dealing with if they hadn't won in 2004 or last year.

For me, it's that I just don't wanna deal with the 2004 Red Sox fan era. I used to love the Red Sox because I hated the Yankees for always winning. I rooted for the Sox in 2003 and was legitimately upset they lost in Game 7. I was never a merchandise buyer or "diehard" Sox fan. I loved Curt Schilling from his time in Philly and the whole team, really. I was unbelievably happy when they beat the Yanks and Cards in 2004. But then the whole Boston area became too cocky. The Pats were winning, the Sox were winning, and this past year the Celtics won. The Bruins also had a good run at the end of the NHL season. It became more of a "how could you not like us?" type of attitude from the Boston fans. That is what drives people away, and it definitely drove me away from being a fan of any Boston team. It's like that with Chicago with me too because their fans seem to think we need to be on their side. It's quite annoying. Also, I was watching Around the Horn one day on ESPN and Bob Ryan basically was saying how great Boston teams are and how he can be cocky about it because they keep winning. Since then, I've had a disdain for Boston like no other. I've actually cheered for the Yanks this past season hoping they'd whoop up on Boston. If Jay Mariotti starts this why don't people like us? type shit, I may have to just quit watching that show all together.

I fear momentum sometimes, especially considering what the Rockies did last year. Momentum doesn't really exist as big in the game of baseball, but hell if I didn't cheer for those Myers at bats or when Sabathia was taken out. We can't just sit on this lead, though.
-
This was the best case scenario for the Phillies. If we lose this game, Milwaukee will have all of the momentum in the world.

He was around 100 pitches, and I don't think he's ready to be that guy who can pitch back to back complete games. If they need him again in this series, he won't be too worn out. At least I hope not. He's already pitched a lot of innings this season, so I kinda side with Manuel on this one.

WWE should buy one of these failing banks. -
I think your homerism is kinda blinding you here.

Great ending to a great season. I've gained a lot more respect for the Mets this season than I had for them last season because even though their bullpen didn't seem to want to play October baseball, their offense more than tried to make up for it, except for only a couple games. I was actually hoping to see a Brewers/Mets Wild Card playoff to get in, but I think the Brewers are the least scary team in this year's playoffs. With that said, if the Phils don't make it to the NLCS at the very least, I will probably feel like the Mets fans feel right now.
-
Not surprising. I know Scott Olsen has said various times how much he hates the Phillies, the city of Philadelphia, and their fans. It used to get under my skin, but the Marlins aren't in the playoffs so I guess it doesn't bother me as much anymore.
-
That is pretty interesting. Thank you for explaining that in detail. It is much appreciated.
-
Explain the pythagorean records a little more, kind of intrigued by that and never really heard of it except in passing.

Agreed. They don't really show much of that 9th inning, which was really the major point of the game. I'd rather them not show how it got to 4-2 and just go straight to the 9th inning if they needed to save time or whathaveyou. I was at my sister's apartment and was never nervous until the bases were loaded. I actually thought Chase's throw was going to be high because he had to rush it so quickly, but he made a great throw, and another great play by Rollins. I don't know what Jimmy's problem has been this season; he has had a big attitude problem it seems, and rarely runs out a popup anymore. I was listening to the game on the radio when I was driving to my sister's and Larry Andersen, who likes pointing out some things that you would otherwise not really notice, said Rollins was jogging down the first base line with the bat in his hand the whole time. I don't know if it was a popup, foul ball, or what, but he never used to do things like that. I loved seeing him happy after the win, but I have to wonder what exactly was his problem this season.

The franchise you hate being a fan of?
-
I have a question but not sure where to put it. I'm thinking of getting the baseball package for Comcast next season, as well as hockey for this season. Are the games in HD? All? Some? None? If none of them are, it might not be worth it since my standard definition is pretty crappy. Thanks in advance.

Instead of relying on the internet and my phone, the Mets game is being televised on the New York CW station that I, for some reason, get. Go Marlins.
-
Flyers/Canes game being televised from the Spectrum. Bittersweet indeed.

Where are. Not where's. Where are the notes at? At the gym I go to, I'm pretty good friends with one of the trainers, and he said when he went to an ROH show years ago, CM Punk was in the main event and tried to do a figure-four leglock 4 times and couldn't do it. Fraud? Or just the opponents fault?
