The one (and only!) Raw thread for 16/6/2008
garfieldsnose replied to TheFranchise's topic in The WWE Folder
I liked that promo between HHH and Cena. Finally gave me a reason to care about this match. -
I think by that time they were already heavily teasing a Diesel/HBK breakup with Diesel becoming the obvious face, so I could see why he was being cheered in October of '94. I, along with many other people probably, was waiting for him to just snap on HBK.

Hey, the Phils have outscored the Cards 22-5 in the last two games and are 1-1. I hate when they score big one game and get silenced the next. Reminds me of a few years ago when they scored 16 in one game, got shut out the next, and then scored 16 the next game. Memory is a blur, but I think that's what happened. Might have been 16, shutout, then 16 again the next week or something.

Bet you were voting him to the All-Star Game a week ago.

I actually expected Ahmed Johnson to slam him. Boy, was I right.

You mean Luger bodyslamming Yoko, sir?

Watching the sequence of this, I probably lied. I was the one that could have sworn the IC Title match was the last match. I'll pop in my DVD now and get to the bottom of this. EDIT: I did lie. I have no reason as to why I believed the IC title match was last. Wow.
-
I remember the IC match being the last match but it didn't go off the air like that. I have the original recording of it as well which has that match as being last.
-
Huh, they're airing this out of order of how it aired the first time. HBK/Bulldog is the 2nd match instead of Hart/Shango.

Where self-celebration happens. I win
-
I like how Luger ignores Malenko when he goes to shake his hand when they're celebrating in the ring.

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion

God, I hope the 1997 War Games is on there. I really do. It was the first War Games match I saw and it holds a place for me. I don't care about the shitty ending, and the quality I have it on tape is very bad, so that is the only thing I dearly wish for in the shorties. -
This is without a doubt my favorite Nitro ever. I remember taping the replay of this and switching to Cinemax porn during the commercials without stopping the recording. Was good times. I remember everything about this show down to the commentary. I'm glad I have it on tape again since I recorded over my other tape. I love when they come back from the commercial break during the World Title match and Heenan says "you're right about that Shiavone" and Shiavone says "yeah, you're right." I always thought that was funny since we never know what they're talking about.

2008 Stanley Cup playoffs - conference finals

Not if you want the Penguins to win. I'd rather it have been a game possible of attracting new fans, instead of a blowout that nobody will think of tomorrow. -

Let's play with no heart or determination with the risk of being eliminated. Great game plan, boys. -

I'd be willing to bet he was being sarcastic, Mr. Party On Your Face. -
Phils almost pull off the comeback. Almost.

What's dirty about it? It's something all goalies do. Mind you, most of the time guys don't get whacked by it, but putting out your goalie stick like that is a common thing to slow guys down. It's not a dirty play as much as it's a common play gone wrong. I don't think it's nearly as dirty as a two-handed slash to the chest-protector, nor as malicious. And I want to ask you directly: How do you feel about the Flyers coming home tomorrow night? Both their losses were a lot closer than they probably should be considering your depleted Defensive corps and being in the Igloo, so do you think the Flyers are going to get a game or two? I'm thinking they can put Pittsburgh on their ass with a Philly crowd. I'm just depressed right now. I thought Philly would mandhandle the Pens tonight. Game 4 was up in the air, but I thought tonight was THE night to get into the series. Biron let in a soft goal and I just sank. The turnover leading to the Pens 3rd goal made me sink even more. I didn't think Timonen and Coburn would affect the scoring this much, but I'd venture to say with them in the lineup we would have way more than 5 goals in 3 games. That is embarassing, and I can't see Pittsburgh being as dominant as they are showing. There was no urgency, especially after going down 3-1, and as much as I bleed Flyers orange, it looked like they showed no heart or passion after that 3rd goal. I'm just so pissed off right now, I can't think too straight. I just hope if Pittsburgh wins this series, they win the Cup. Seeing Detroit raise the Cup sucks worse than Down Syndrome Malkin and Sid hoist it. -

Osgood did just as dirty a thing as Ribeiro did, don't try and pin it all on Ribeiro. I know we're all entitled to homerism, but come on guys. -

I think I might change my prediction. Pittsburgh in 6. I think Timonen was the key for the Flyers stopping Pittsburgh's offensive prowess, and with him out, I in no way see how someone can fill his shoes while he is out. This is terrible news and it feels like to me we just lost game one. -

Except last time the Flyers were favorites. Last time I remember them being underdogs in every playoff series in one playoff season was back in 2004, because I think they might have been underdogs against the Devils (given their past experience in the playoffs against them), and I know everyone was picking the Leafs and Lightning to win. As long as they're underdogs, I don't mind. -

Flyers in 7. If we can stop the hottest team in the NHL (which was more of a team other than Ovechkin, everybody was playing great), and the best team in the conference, I have a good feeling playing a division rival. Biron's stepped up to the test against division opponents this season, and I expect him to steal this series again. Stars in 6. Underdogs win out in the 2008 Conference Finals. I hate the Red Wings and I love Mike Modano. I wish it was the Sharks and Flyers so I could see either my team or Jeremy Roenick get a Cup, but I'd like to see Turco lead the Stars if the Flyers can't win it. -
Just have something to add. I started watching the Flyers regularly in 1999. Every single season and almost every game, we outshot the opponent and a lot of times had nothing to show for it. We made every goalie opposition look like an MVP. For the Habs and the fans saying how badly they outshot the Flyers and how they should have won, I don't buy it. I never had that thought, albeit in the regular season, when we outshot our opponents almost every game. From 2000-the lockout, it seemed like we always got the better of the play in 80% of the games we played. But we didn't capitalize on that. That's what happened to Montreal this series. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, it feels good to get lucky instead of outplay the opponent and lose. But crying about how badly the Habs outplayed us and how unfair it was, really doesn't matter in the end. It really shouldn't be an issue. Habs just wanted to finesse the goals and not do the dirty work.

Huh. Interesting.
