Guest AndrewTS Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 They'll probably have Booker T join, and his main purpose will be to rattle off tons of uses for the peanut.
Guest D'Lo White Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Yes, this angle does suck. It was just a couple a weeks ago D'Lo was teaming up with Chris Nowitski, who is whiter then Coach. Not even Akeem joining and claiming he too is being held down by the white man could save this angle.
Guest CED Ordonez Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 ****SARCASM ALERT**** Maven and D'Lo should become Doom 2K3, with the announcers selling like they don't know who those two black guys under masks are. ***END SARCASM***
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Not even Akeem joining and claiming he too is being held down by the white man could save this angle. That'd be hilarious! As long as he uses Slick's entrance theme, everything would be A-OK to me.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 They'll probably have Booker T join, and his main purpose will be to rattle off tons of uses for the peanut. Heyyy! And they can have another overrated supermarket brawl with racist overtones! Suddenly I'm not looking so forward to Austin's return.....
Guest TheArchiteck Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 There should be a "sarcasm" feature on this forum. I really didnt think that anyone would think that I was serious about Coach. I just thought it was a funny thought. Damn guess you need to enable that feature also. Everyone realized it was joke.
Guest EdwardKnoxII Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Anybody notice that if you're black and in the WWE your quota is to be in a t least one racism or stereotypical gimmick. D-Lo, Godfather and Kama, Mark Henry, The Rock, Faarooq, Ahmed Johnson, D-Von Dudley, K-Kwik...the list goes on and on I agreed with all of them except for The Rock. He hasn't played a racist or stereotypical mainly because Rock doesn't look black. In fact I think in a way Rock was anti-racist when he took over the Nation even if it wasn't out right stated. Notice how different the group acted when he took over. Hell he even let OWEN join the group.
Guest teke184 Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Anyone else wonder if they'll start doing old Garrett Morris bits from SNL next week with DLo? I'd love to hear him try to sing "Gonna get me a shotgun"
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Race Angles = Bad. Now, if it was a big fat white guy thinking he was an old black woman, then THAT would be fantastic. "Don't make me break my foot off in yo ass" "That's my white momma!"
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Yes they're bad. They make people uncomfortable. You mention race and people get all rigid and worry they'll say the wrong thing. Then you end up with everyone going "You know I have a black friend!" and that just sounds sad. Can you imagine the entire arena? "But D-Lo! I have a black friend!"
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Exactly. The crowd doesn't know what to think. If they boo him are they booing Dlo the heel, or a Black man trying to make it in a white mans world?
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I just read Teddy Long's interview on WWE.com and he wasn't called til late Monday afternoon, an hour before the flight, to come to Raw. That's how late they decided that angle. Meaning they have no idea where this is going either.
Guest Choken One Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Maybe they already had the idea planned just didn't know WHOM to put as Manager. Why didn't they splurge and get Clarence Mason back Damnit!
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 you know it will be really bad if they give DLo "In The Ghetto" as his theme music... why doesn't he just refuse to wrestle...citing that he shouldn't need a white man (Bisch/Vince) to tell him when a fight's gotta go down~! yeah...this angle sucks...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 It does suck. Unless Dlo comes out and cuts a promo on how he broke a whitemans neck and put him in a wheelchair... The WWF does everything half-assed. Had the Unamericans came out and said "You Americans deserved what Happened on Sept 11th 2001." then they probably would still be around today - rather than pussyfooting around the issue and waisting everyones time. This is no different, you either go all the way and be incredibly racist or you don't go at all. By taking it to the extremes then at least you have a chance... They should just watch Bamboozled and have Dlo after his matches put blackface on all of his opponents.
Guest notJames Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 By taking it to the extremes then at least you have a chance... They should just watch Bamboozled and have Dlo after his matches put blackface on all of his opponents. That idea would be pretty damn cool. After blackfacing them, D'Lo could yell, "Now you know how it feels to be a black man on the losing end" or something to that effect. Of course, this means it will never happen.
Guest jester Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Racism is one of those things that just makes everyone's skin crawl. It takes skillful handling of it to turn it into good drama. Wrestling is NOT the forum to showcase it. Since D'Lo is doing the racism thing, I hope they do an evil foreigner gimmick for Gail Kim when she gets in. Because THAT WOULD BE SOOOOO ORIGINAL. Especially if they say she's Japanese. Was that sarcastic enough?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 and can she have REALLY long finger nails and say "D ro Blown"?
Guest AfricanAmerican Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 I like the angle... it will definatly get him over as a heel with the predominantly white WWE crowds (which is probably WWE's main goal anyway). With Teddy Long speaking for him, DLo doesn't have to act like "Ghetto Black person being held down by "The Man"", and can instead just be "Black person being held down by "The Man"". Bring in Al Sharpton and this angle would be perfect. Im Down With the Brown We shall overcome!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 White People don't/won't get vocally angry while Black People shout 'damn the white man' because Politcal Correctness has pretty much well made (us) afraid to say or do anything remotely based on race. Which is why the fans just sit on their hands in the Dlo vs. Tommy match. They don't see Dlo as the heel trying to use race to make his way up to the top rather than doing things the 'clean way' - they seem him as the black man trying to fight free of the white system - and they don't know what to do. So they do nothing. When Tommy starts hitting him with cane shots they don't see a face beating up a heel, they see a white man beating up a black man - and vice versa. It just makes everyone uncomfortable. Like I said before, someone in the WWF needs to watch bamboozled. It has to be so over-the-top that no one can take it seriously and then all the whitefolk can breathe a sigh of relief and start to get into it again.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 If UPS starts using "Are you down....with the brown?" I will forever be in debt to the advertising industry of america... UPS hates FedEx...with all that white on the envelopes and packages and their logo with that hidden arrow....that arrow is a symbol of repressing those behind them...and UPS will not stand for it...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 They should add a gay german nazi in this storyline (coughalexwrightcough!) who is 'down with the brown' and who uses his evil nazi tactics and propaganda to help further D los cause... Oh you better believe that is over-the-top! Good lord I am sorry.
Guest deadbeater Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Brock right now acts Blacker than D'Lo. Heck, even Molly acts Blacker than D'Lo. D'Lo is just acting like a jive turkey, like we need more of them. Bamboozled, the movie, held back big time. In that Spike Lee Joint, there should have been at least some hambone. How can you do a movie that salutes and laments how Blacks were treated in media without Tommy Davidson or Savion Glover doing an extended hambone number?! They didn't do one thousandth of the routines that made Black vaudville/Jim Crow distinct, and the reasons that made many people uncomfortable. They did a good job with the the Blackface, but talking about sanitizing.
Yuna_Firerose Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 You forgot to mention that "Cena is blacker than D'Lo", deadbeater. Cena raps. D'Lo..umm...recites....poetry. Or at least his version of it.

Hell, if they think they can get away with trying to get a Samoan to pass for Japanese, they wouldn't hesitate to try it with a Korean-Canadian.
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Brock is blacker than D'Lo. Heck, even Molly is blacker than D'Lo. Molly's booty could pass for a black woman's. Hell, it's bigger n' rounder than Jackie's Although D'Lo skin-color wise is light, he didn't seem as "white"--as in the way he acts--as Coach. And BROCK?! You've gotta be kidding me.
Guest deadbeater Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Brock said "What you think now, homes!" as he beat down Eddie Guerrero one Smackdown. And no, don't confuse 'Thuganomics' with acting Black. No, no way. Gangsta rap was suburban fantasy of urban life that went out of control.
Mecha Mummy Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 Anyone else wonder if they'll start doing old Garrett Morris bits from SNL next week with DLo? I'd love to hear him try to sing "Gonna get me a shotgun" That would be so great.

And Cena is a white boy who raps. That doesn't make him black. He'd have to do some other black stereotypes first.
Mecha Mummy Posted January 23, 2003 Report Posted January 23, 2003 BROCK said "What you think now, homes?" ... Does anyone have a tape of that Smackdown, I've GOTTA hear that.
