Best Wrestler Autobiography

Recommended Posts

With the exception of Mick Foley's Have a Nice Day, what do you guys think is the best autobiography written by a wrestler? My vote would go to In the Pit with Piper, followed by It's Good to be the King... Sometimes.

In the Pit with Piper has too many outlandish stories and too much kayfabe for me to like it.

I really enjoyed Foley is Good and Hogan's book. Yes I know most of Hogan's book may've been BS but it was a fun read and he went through his whole career.

If you don't mind a bitter, egomaniac then try "Pure Dynamite" by The Dynamite Kid

Foley is Good followed by Pure Dynamite.

Also, even though she isn't technically a wrestler, Diana Hart's book is perhaps one of the best out there on the subject as well, but for all the wrong reasons.

Top 3...

1. Pure Dynamite - Tom Billington

2. Have A Nice Day - Mick Foley

3. Wrestling's Bad Boy Tells All - Bobby Heenan

Honourable mention: In The Pit With Piper - Roddy Piper

I have only read 4 (Foley's 2, Angle and Goldberg).

Other than Have a Nice day it would have to be Foley is Good then It's true its true .

Goldberg's book is shockingly horrible, especially to an Australian who hardly know shit about American Football.

Besides Pure Dynamite, I really enjoyed "In the Pit with Piper" and "It's good to be king sometimes". "Tributes" is pretty bad ass as well.

Pure Dynamite owns. I love how he says weird shit in a matter-of-fact way.

I so wish Beefcake would've had that cage match with him.

I am an uber mark for Bobby Heenan and his book as well. There's a lot of cool little stories in there and I think Bobby would have done well to go even more into that direction. Although, I wished he would have spent more time talking about the WCW, because I believe he has a lot of incite on how just horrible the company was during that period.

Wasn't Diana Hart's book a bit outlandish? I mean I read a sort of summary of it, and the reviewer made it sound as though she claimed that she was raped by all the people connected with the Hart's (except for Owen) at one point or another. Or something like that.

Pure Dynamite is the best. Foley's book holds nothing on DK. Second place is Have a Nice Day.

Oh yeah, she was throwing around accusations in the whole book. I don't believe a lot of what was in there, but it's still definitely a must-read.

I gotta disagree with Midnight...Have a Nice Day kills Pure Dynamite, maybe if DK wasn't so stuck on himself and wrote a longer book I might feel the other way.

I don't think DK is stuck on himself. He tells thing matter-of-factly and doesn't embellish on stories like Hogan or Piper do. If he's talking about putting somebody over, he'd use a phrase like " If we fought the next night, the match would be up in the air for me. That's true." He keeps it simple, which to me is more believeable.

For me it's a toss up between Pure Dynamite and Have A Nice Day. HAND is a more entertaining read but Pure Dynamite is a much better wrestling book.

I really like Kurt's book. I guess all the stuff on amateur wrestling put some people off, but I found it really interesting.

Mike Quackenbush's book Headquarters is a great

read. He was a journalism major and the writing is good.

I think it is only available from his website or from him at

shows.

3. Positively Page

Holy balls this book blows!

I don't even want to go into the rant I would have to just to sum up my hate for this book.

I second that mate. I actually skipped the entire section on his football career to the end of the book where i was HOPING he'd rip on Hogan or something. Eh, he praised him for being a professional.

Figures.

My vote goes to Positively Page by DDP, whether the fact im a huge DDP mark makes me biased or not, i still think it's a great read.

I still don't see why all the hype about Foley's book, i found it to be just as bitter as Mr Billington's, however in a far less obvious tone. The way he describes his teenage fans was enough for me, which is why i'd rather read DDP's book, as i know he used to bend over backwards for his fans.

I didn't see much bitterness in Foley's book, so I'd love to hear your reasons. I just picked up that he didn't like his fans imitating him, but to a much extreme degree (slams thru flaming tables and such). He seemed like he'd rather kids learn their craft instead of doing insane moves to get noticed.

My List of Favorite Wrestling Biographies:

1. Have A Nice Day--Just the fact that he covered most of his

career makes it tops for me.

2. Pure Dynamite--I picked up the bitterness in his book, but still

think it's a good read regardless.

3. Bodyslams--This is a book about ring announcer Gary Micheal

Cappetta, really good read that I'd recommend

picking up if you can find a copy. Just seeing how

the WWF changed over the years is interesting enough

4. Bobby the Brain Heenan--Interesting read on a few topics, but

I felt it could have been a bit longer

5. Arn Anderson--Same deal with Heenan, but still a good read.

6. In the Pit with Piper--He keep explaining who people are and

stuff like that in the middle of his stories, after he had already

explained them. Thus detracting from them.

Where's the love for If They Only Knew?

This book and The Rock's book are 2 of the worst I've ever read. Chyna just comes off as a she's The Shit, but really ain't worth a shit. The Rock's, he goes into character and doesn't talk much about his WWF career.

Edit--Forgot about Angle's book. To me it's really good, but he really hadn't been in the business long enough. His amateur stuff was a good read tho.

The only good thing about Chyna's book was the great humor and entertainment...both because of her jokes and all the bullshit.

So far, I'd say the Hardyz book is above Page's.

1. Have a Nice Day

2. Foley is Good

3. Exist 2 Inspire

4. Positively Page

5. If They Only Knew

I LIKED IT...but it's the only one I've read, so I dunno how it holds up to other biographies.

I hated the Rock's book but both of Foley's have to be at the top of my favorite's list.

I am currently reading Exist to Inspire and I am digging it so far.

1. Have A Nice Day

2. Foley is Good

3. Heenan's book (fun!)

4. Pure Dynamite

5. Angle's book is quite interesting if you don't mind it not being all about pro wrestling.

6. Hogan's book is...ok.

7. Piper's book was...ok. He's even more full of shit than Hogan though.

fuck Chyna's book and Dibiase's book and Arn's book.

Haven't read Lawler's or Moolah's.
