Guest EricMM Report post Posted April 4, 2003 I saw a free screening at the Student Union in College Park MD yesterday. Anyways, has anyone else seen this movie? It's very short as far as movies go, but it's very intense, one of those real time type movies. It's both intense and funny in some parts. Some of the funny parts are the kind of things that are funny only if they're happening to someone else though I'll leave you with one of the funnier moments (besides the dick-hand joke) Sniper "Stu, in movies, the good guys always run around with their guns cocked, and the bad guys always have do cock their gun before they can try to shoot the good guys. Do you know why that is?" Stuart "No." (gun being cocked) Sniper "Because it's a very SCARY sound, Stu!"
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted April 4, 2003 As I mentioned in another thread, the movie looks really good (and was shot for under a million dollars, according to Joel Schumacher. They printed an interview with him in the entertainment section of the paper here yesterday.) and I want to see it. But the dumbass local critic gave it one star, as opposed to A Man Apart's two stars. While I want to see A Man Apart, I figured Phone Booth would get a lot of praise. This proves once again why I hate our local critic. He'll bash a movie, but if it takes and gets better write ups/ratings than he's given, he'll change his stance. When Ace Ventura came out, he panned it at one star, but when it became Jim Carrey's breakout comedy hit, he "upgraded" his rating to a three 1/2 star review. The guy, IMO, is an idiot. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 4, 2003 No but I want to. Badly. Why? Because Colin Ferrel rules the land with an iron fist.
Guest TUS_02 Report post Posted April 5, 2003 No but I want to. Badly. Why? Because Colin Ferrel rules the land with an iron fist. I've been saying that since Minority Report (Woulda been AMerican Outlaws if that was... oh I dunno... good) As for Phone Booth... I saw this sucker a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time ago (3 weeks ) and boy, was I ever impressed. I mean, Farrell fanboyism aside, he and Keifer just fucking rock the house. And even thought it's directed by Joel "Franchise Killer" Shoe-maker, he really did an impressive job, but he and Colin have experience working together, so it's all good. Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted April 5, 2003 I saw it. I was impressed with the comedy put into it. With the super low budget I think it's going to make a killing. I liked it alot.
Guest HHH123007 Report post Posted April 5, 2003 I saw it today, and it was very entertaining....I'd recommend it to just about anyone...
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted April 6, 2003 I found it funny as well, almost too much that it ruined it a bit, but it was still very entertaining and well worth the money I paid to see it. I'd also like to add that I saw the trailer for the Italian Job and that looks to be a sleeper hit this summer. Little bit of action, some humor, fairly big name stars, an interesting plot.. I also saw a trailer for Holes...a disney movie..I think it should have been direct to video.. Phone Booth Total US Box Office as of yesterday: $5.205 million (#1)
Guest tpww7 Report post Posted April 6, 2003 Downloaded it today, good movie which I'll end up probably seeing in the movies with my friends this week.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Report post Posted April 6, 2003 Loved it. I can't wait for a Keifer Sutherland soundboard consisting of stuff from this movie and 24 to come out. His voice and saying hear fucking own, so it'd be a great tool to fuck with people.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted April 6, 2003 Too short. Great movie, but it was too short.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted April 6, 2003 There is no such thing as too short. Especially in this day and age where every other blockbuster BS is pushing 3 hours running time but only containing 45 minutes of plot. It's about a guy in a frggin phone booth. 1:21 is about right. 1 hour would probably be better.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2003 I just saw it and LOVED it. Sutherland is magnificent and Farrell is the perfect prick yet you still pity him. I REALLY enjoyed this movie.
Guest EQ Report post Posted April 7, 2003 I thought the movie kicked ass. Sutherland has the greatest voice for something like this. Farrel played his part very well. Me and my friend simply cracked up at some parts of this movie. I want to see it again...
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted April 7, 2003 I just downloaded it. Damned good movie. The ending was good, too. I didn't think it was too short. If it was longer, the movie would have dragged on. The hookers were gold, too.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2003 Those hookers were so annyoing, LOL, I wanted to shoot them myself.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted April 7, 2003 Well it's done in real time, so it being longer than an hour and a half would hurt it more then anything.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2003 I think Farrell should have let one in the booth, and then slapped her out of it, just to see what the pimp would do... Movie was a total mindfuck from start to finish, and the ending was just...wow...undescribable...
The Dames 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2003 I think the movie was definitely suspenseful and written masterfully, but there were too many open questions for me when I left the theater. It hurt the movie in my eyes. Dames

The Dames 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2003 A sequel to this, although it may be profitable, doesn't exactly bring much else to the story. Kiefer stalks and terrorizes someone else in a phone booth? Colin Ferrell goes into a phone booth and it happens again? Dames
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted April 7, 2003 I didn't say it would add anything to the story, it's just that Hollywood is always looking for a way to make money.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted April 7, 2003 (edited) ::SPOLER QUESTION:: Spoiler (Highlight to Read): The biggest question of all is, what exactly was Kiefer's motive? Did he just find random people that sin, and then make them confess their sins? Was he supposed to be god, or think he was god? Kiefer reminded me of Bill Paxton from Frailty a bit....the characters I mean. Edited April 8, 2003 by areacode212

Guest Mole Report post Posted April 7, 2003 I was thinking that too, but I believe that the viewer is supposed to figure that out for themself. I believe that is what makes a movie better, when you have to think about shit like that. I downloaded it the other day, but saw how short it was so I thought that I didn't get the whole movie. But when I heard that it wasn't along movie, I watched it. Anyway, it was a great movie. It was written great, the directing was great, the acting was excellant and it just rocked. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted April 12, 2003 I just saw the movie. I thought it was fantastic. The hookers did piss me off besides the one line about her "dick hand". Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I think that the motive was that the sniper was always the nice guy that never got anywhere in life. Then he sees these fake assholes raking in the cash and living the good life. So, he singled out certain ones that used that phone booth and gave them the choice of admitting to their sins or dying. It sort of reminded me of what Tyler Durden did to the conveince store clerk in Fight Club, although the true motives were slightly different. It seems like the sniper never intended to kill Stu, but instead wanted him to kill himself, thus showing that he is no longer selfish. Otherwise, the sniper would have killed his wife or friend. The end did throw me though because all along I figured it was the pizza guy who was behind the whole plan. At first I thought Stu was just hallucinating, but after the panned out camera angle that theory was shot. As for a sequel, well, lets just say hopefully we don't see another Speed 2. Guest hydroapple Report post Posted April 12, 2003 BAD movie. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Why would Stu want to confess his sins, and then say "it is because I want to do it, not because you told me to sniper"? It is never shown or explained why exactly he would change from a guy who doesn't give a shit to a guy who really cares about confessing his sins. Also a HUGE flaw in this movie is when Stu takes the gun on top of the phone booth. Common sense to the cops would state Stu having a gun, means that Stu shot the jiggalo, and the guy on the phone is Stu's friend, trying to get him off the hook, by pretending to be bad. So the cops should have shot and killed Stu. Another flaw in the movie is when he told his wife that he was cheating on her and she NO SOLD. That isn't a normal reaction from a wife learning that her husband has cheated on her. Yet another flaw in this movie is that the police don't know about the MIA pizza man. The guy didn't ever return to the pizza store, so if this movie had logic, the pizza store would report it to the police, and the police would ask Stu about it. This is just a terrible movie with poor logic.
