Guest MD2020 Report post Posted April 12, 2003 Didn't Montreal boo the American national anthem once this year, and then the next game they were in Philly and Philly booed the Candian national anthem and threw stuff at them? I remember reading something like that. If it's true then it's the 4th best Philly hockey moment in history: Right behind the 2 Stanley Cups and when we were the ONLY NHL team to HAND THE SOVIET TEAM THEIR ASSES. Yeah...Fuck Iran. I wouldn't say the fourth best. In my opinion, the fourth best Philly hockey moment was when during a preseason game with the Rangers in 2001. Between the 2nd and 3rd period, they put Bush's speech (bout a week after 9/11) when we laid out that we were going after Osama and that the Tailban better hand him over on the JumboTron. Anyhow, the two teams started to come out for the Third Period, so they switched off the speech and displayed a message that, if you wanted to see the rest, go out to the concourse. The crowd didn't like it, and started to chant "Leave it on!" So the speech was left on to the end. After 20 minutes, the speech ended, the two teams talked it over, called it a tie (it was 2-2) and shook each others' hands as the crowd cheered on. It was pretty cool. A little story for all of you "Philly fans are heartless" crowd. 5th best moment is when Hextall beat the shit out of Chelios for injuring Brian Propp. MrZsasz, did you ever hear Bobby Clark's quote about the Soviets? Apparently, either the coach had said something disparaing about us before the game, or there was some nasty stick play by the Soviets in games prior. (Don't really know, happened before I was born, just relaying the story here). Anyhow, some reporter asked Clark if that would fire up the Flyers even more. Clark responded with something like "No, not really. We hate those sons of bitches anyway."
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 12, 2003 C'mon. Phili literally physically hurt them. What skill is that? Montreal vs USSR=Best. Hockey. Game. Ever. Period.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 12, 2003 Any time you beat the arguably best team in the world that is skill. Hockey, especially in that era, is a game where the other team needs to be afraid and intimidated by you. And scoring on arguably the best goalie in the world requires some type of skill. The Broad Street Bullies, the bane of the NHL, but the heroes of the NHL that night, demoralized, dominated, and defeated one of the most dominant teams in history. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 12, 2003 With what skill? Murdering every red jersey that stepped on the ice? What skill is that?
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted April 12, 2003 And if this was baseball I would agree that isn't skill. But part of the game of hockey is physically dominating your opponent. Make them not want to chase down that loose puck, make them not want to come across the middle with speed. Beat your opponent down then once they are worn out and demoralized you can capitalize on mistakes and find openings.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 12, 2003 But you don't get the point. Phili hit every USSR jersey insight, puck or without puck, thats the only reason they won the very rather bland game. I know that you are suppose to out muscle your opponent for the loose puck, around the boards and face off situations. All they did was hit them hard, and when the opponents backed off, they had the net ready for them. Skill...Hah. Hardly any Phili players from that Era had skill other than hitting the player on the ice, and pick up the garbage goal. But since this is Phili's fav. moments, there must not be since this is up there.

Guest Powerplay Report post Posted April 12, 2003 Holy Christ, the Wings are just dominating the Ducks. They were in the Ducks' zone on the last power play more than the Ducks were in their zone. Oh yeah, 2-1 Wings! WHOO!
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted April 12, 2003 Well, Detroit has been dominant almost the entire series so far...Giguere is the only reason these games are even close. Kinda funny hearing the announcers talk about how Detroit doesn't care that the Ducks are on the power play though.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted April 12, 2003 Ducks are up 2-0 now. I've got 2 words: Holy shit.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted April 12, 2003 Holy crap. I mean, out of all the series, I figured the Detroit/Anahiem one would have been a sweep. But for the Wings, not the Ducks. Rabid optimism aside, the Wings have seen this before...though Giguere is 10 million times the goalie Cloutier is. Seems like this might be a little tougher than taking the Nucks out. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted April 12, 2003 I guess Anaheim is this year's Canucks. Can't say I'm too sad. Fuck Cujo
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Report post Posted April 12, 2003 I'll be shocked if the Ducks choke this one. Giguire is playing too good right now. This one may go to 6 games, but the Ducks will take it. Remember two things: 1. J.S Giguiere is not Dan Cloutier 2. Curtis Joseph isn't on the same planet as Hasek. Both of these points show that this isn't another Canucks/Red Wings series.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted April 12, 2003 Caps crush the Lightning - I'm pretty suprised...I thought the Lightning were better that this. Colorado survives a late scare from Minnesota - I can see this one going 7. Minnesota is a good, tough team...better than The Ducks, IMO. I could see them pulling it out. Amusing to hear the Colorado fans cheer the final score from Detroit.

And with the Wings pretty much intact from last year, there may not be enough 'hunger' to repeat. And I don't think anyone is on the same planet as Hasek. Mentally, anyways - Roy and Brodeur are better. The guy was just a damn good goalie when, based on his style, he had absolutely no right to be. Cujo wanted to be like Vernon and Hasek, and right now he's playing like Osgood. He's capable of much better. But fuck him, he left the Leafs, I hope he does lose the series. Guest hockeytown9321 Report post Posted April 12, 2003 If Colorado fans had a choice between the Av's winning and Detroit losing, I think they'd pick Detroit to lose. The Red Wings will win this series, by all rights they should be ahead 2-0. They will figure out JS.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted April 12, 2003 That's BS. Explain his time in Edmonton and how he almost single-handedly won 2 playoff series for the Oilers?

Yeah, he has. Ask the people in St. Louis and Edmonton... What did he do for them? Nothing, both of those squads choked under his play. He is a nothing, sad to say. What has he ever done? What awards has ever won? I'll compare him to a glorified Osgood.

Hmmm...didn't someone make this point earlier? Oh, yes... Do you sweat it if you're Detroit after what happened last year? No offense Canuck fans. I'd be sweating it i I were them. J.-S. Giguere is not Dan Cloutier, and Curtis Joseph is certainly not Dominik Hasek.

Guest treble charged Report post Posted April 13, 2003 Joesph has won series by himself, pretty much, though. Like both of the series he won with Edmonton and against Ottawa last year. To put him in the same league as Chris Osgood is absurd.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted April 13, 2003 I don't know who those guys were that showed up on Wednesday, but THESE are the Senators I've been watching all year. 3-0 Sens in the 3rd, and the score flatters the Islanders.
