Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Kidd has got to have better games then the one he had last night. If he doesn't then they are through.
Guest Spicy McHaggis Report post Posted June 5, 2003 The Spurs deserve the hype, you don't have to hate the winner all the time people. Yes they do. They don't deserve Brad Nessler cheering for them, Tolbert (my fav announcer btw) calling Duncan one of the best ever, and Walton saying his game has no flaws and making excuses whenever he screws up. Duncan is one of the classiest guys in the league and will no doubt be one of the best ever. But ABC needs to understand that 2 teams are playing. Oh please, when have the networks ever gave both teams a fair shake. The last 3 years have all been about the Lakers. The Pacers, 76ers and Nets never was given a chance by NBC. ABC was just all about the Lakers this season, until they got bounced in the 2nd round. I don't blame them for jumping on the Spurs bandwagon. They're just trying to be on the winning side whether its the Bulls, Lakers or Spurs. Also, no one takes Walton too seriously. His comments are just to provoke some sort of response and then its over. How many times has he said, that was the best quarter in the history of the NBA? That dude is just comic relief and utilized for entertainment purposes. Bullshit. I would say the Lakers vs. Pacers was fair. The Sixers series was all about AI taking down Goliath and that's all they talked about. When they lost it was "Well Allen had a hip-pointer, and Shaq got away w/ murder, blah blah blah." I like the Nets but that series was a joke... a 4-game coronation ceremony. The games were in garbage time by the 2nd quarter... the announcers had no time to be biased. If anything NBC was more concerned with giving Michael one final blow.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 5, 2003 No doubt, NBC/NBA were on their knees for Michael, but they just moved to the next stall to blow Shaq/Kobe and the Lakers. It’s the way things are done to build some sort of hype/publicity. If anything ABC is trying to create new stars and generate interest on a team that is the clear cut dominant team, yet has been trashed on for the past few years. If anyone deserves the NBA marketing machine-type hype, it’s the Spurs.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 5, 2003 The only thing I'm sick of hearing is the ABA crap. Who cares that both of these teams were in the ABA? Who cares?? What does it matter? What does it effect? Do they not realize that most younger fans have no idea what the ABA even was? I'm 27 and I never saw a minute of an ABA game so how can the fans younger than me care? Get over it. It's a dead league and has been dead for decades. Nobody cares.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Bringing up the ABA will sell retro Ice Man George Gervin Jerseys, yo. You know you want a retro Jason Kidd Squires Jersey! TNT has tried their best to build new stars with Charles Barkley constantly yelling out his favorite player from Europe MANU GINOBLI~. Its time that some of the other Spurs get some credit besides Tim Duncan. Malik Rose is a very important player and is the main reason the Spurs have the best record in the league, Rose is the person who took David Robinson's spot when he was injuried or whenever he needs rest on the bench. Plus Rose recently had his braces removed...............let us all be in awe of that big smile of his.

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Fame, NBC's new reality show had higher ratings than the 1rst hour of the NBA playoffs, and 2 re-runs of Law and Order also beat out the rest of the game ratings wise, although the game did help ABC finish 2nd ratings wise on the night. I don't think NBC misses the NBA that much anymore...
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I don’t see anything wrong with the ABA plugs. I think they are just trying to add some history to this match-up and educate some of their younger / newer viewers.

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I'm thinking the Nets don't have a chance after last night. Unless Byron Scott has a lobotomy or gets fired today and replaced by a decent coach tomorrow. This whole Mutombo thing is just crazy. You're going against two 7 footers and you got one of the best defensive 7 footers in the game sitting on your bench? Ok, he's a little old and not as quick as he once was. So is David Robinson who just happens to be starting. Look at what he did for the few minutes he was in. He stuffed Duncan on a dunk attempt, he dives on the floor for a loose ball and recovers it for his team, then he ends up causing Robinson to miss a wide open dunk attempt just by his presence. He comes off the bench, energizes the team and his reward is going back to the bench for the rest of the game. Why? So Collins can stay out there and do absolutely nothing? I even saw Mutombo running the court at one point like he was only 44 again. It shocked me how fast he was moving. To me, it seems like Scott is having some kind of hard-headed ego trip. It's like he wants to show the team that he's the boss and you can't second guess him. So he takes Mutombo and locks his ass to the bench just to prove that he can do it. Maybe they really didn't need Mutombo in the other playoff games but they sure as hell need him now.

A combination of Mutombo and Martin could really provide the inside presence that the Nets need. Get off your ass Byron before you find yourself next in line to coach the NY Liberty. Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 6, 2003 Starting Line-ups Jason Kidd/Tony Parker Kerry Kittles/Stephen Jackson RIchard Jefferson/Bruce Bowen Kenyon Martin/Tim Duncan Dikembe Mutumbo/David Robinson Bench Jason Kidd(lets be honest here)/Speedy Claxton Lucious Harris/Manu Ginobli Rodney Rodgers/drawing a blank here...Steve Smith or Danny Ferry maybe Aaron Williams/Malik Rose Jason Collins/Kevin Willis Then you can always throw in Ryan Scalabrine, a VERY underated big man that can knock down the 3, hustles on every play and is one hell of a passer from the top of the key if any of the big men get in trouble. Byron...you are 11 deep for christ sake. That team can beat ANY team in the league...yet he won't use it. He has a starting lineup that can hang with the Spurs starting line-up and a bench that can hang with the Spurs bench. This is one of the most evenly matched finals and hopefully we will get to see it as so.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 6, 2003 I can't remember the last time Smitty got to play any significant minutes.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 6, 2003 The important bench players that get time for the Spurs are Rose, Ginobli, Claxton. Ferry or Willas play if the Spurs need to go big and throw some muscle around for hardcore defense. But since Robinson is playing so good I doubt Ferry or Willas will play at all in game 2. Steve Smith will rarely get playing time unless it is a blowout and if Rose and Bowen are injuried.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 6, 2003 I’d be shocked if the Admiral plays as well tonight. That’d be a great way for him to end his career if he can contribute significantly in the finals and win another title. Sometimes its sad to watch him struggle out there – after all this is the same guy who won practically every award in the NBA and once scored 71 points. Go David. Go Spurs! Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 6, 2003 Jason Collins injured wrist almost makes him a non-factor in the series.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 6, 2003 Yeah, because with a healthy wrist he would be the man...wait...what exactly does his wrist do to stop him from at least GOING for a rebound or CHALLENGING a shot. He played some of the saddest basketball I have ever seen in the first half in game one. I think a 50 year old David Robinson still being a better player than Jason Collins will make him a non-factor in this series. Let the two old men tussle and sit Collins down. He played some of the saddest basketball I have ever seen in the first half in game one. I know. Totally effortless. I honestly think it stems from his high school days... the twins never played a second half. Their talent was so great that they had the opponent on their knees before the 1st half was over. Collins never had to really work. I should know, those monsters destroyed my school every year.

Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 6, 2003 David Robinson scored 71 points againt the LA Clippers If Robinson can become the defensive minded player like in game 1, going for the blocks and rebounds the Spurs can sweep the Nets. All it takes is a few good passes by Duncan to make David an offensive threat.
