Guest crandamaniac Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Um... Coolio and Ja Rule are ahead of Sugarhill Gang? God, I hate these countdowns. The only good one was the One-Hit Wonders one. whoa whoa whoa! Coolio made this fucking list and Slick Rick didn't? What the Fuck is wrong with these people. Is there anywhere that has a list of Hip-Hop artist that is the definitive best, and won't make me throw up?
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 I'd rather see Sir Mixalot on here than Ja Rule.
Guest Memoirs of an Invisible Chevy Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 No Common? This guy put out one of the best, creative, and mind altering hip hop albums ever...and gets not a mention. Salt n'Pepa? Excuse me? Run DMC as number 1? Shit, I don't think I even saw KRS-one on there. Fuuuuck.
Guest Choken One Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Was Fab Five Freddie on here? He oughta...
Guest evenflowDDT Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Ahh, OK, I have heard a Tone Loc track then. Never mind. As for why I should think Sugarhill Gang and all these one hit wonder early rappers should be higher, I guess I'm just an ol' skool mark. I'm more than happy that Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, and Run DMC are in the top 10, let alone that DMC and PE are #1 and 2.
Guest razazteca Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Was Fab Five Freddie on here? He oughta... He was not a rapper, so he does not belong on the list just like graffiti artist or break dancers.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 My top 5: 1) Public Enemy 2) NWA 3) Eminem 4) Outkast 5) Jay-Z Personally Outkast are my second favourite group (after radiohead) but i cant really justify them being the best of all time. Bear in mind I'm not a massive hip-hop mark, just more an admirer of decent music. Public Enemy come top, because of Chuck D's rhymes, and the Manic Street Preachers smpled them constantly when they first came out.
Guest ant_7000 Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 No Slick Rick, and Ja Rule made the list. Why is Rakim is so rated low? Master P over The Roots who's gassing them? No Common, No Mos Def.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Missing from the list: Digital Underground Rodney O and Joe Cooley Slick Rick Fat Boys Too Short Sir Mix a Lot 2 Live Crew Doug E Fresh
B. Brian Brunzell Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 I thought MC Lyte should have been MUCH higher. Granted, Salt N' Pepa opened the doors for females in the Rap game, but Lyte is BY FAR the greatest female rapper of all-time. Today's female rappers like Trina, Foxy Brown, and Eve all have kind of the same swagger that Lyte carried with her back in the day. And I must join in the bitching about Slick Rick. Fuck VH1 for not putting him on the list.
Guest CED Ordonez Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 All of you should have a field day flaming VH1 since this week's list will be their Top 50 Heavy Rock.
Mecha Mummy Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 All of you should have a field day flaming VH1 since this week's list will be their Top 50 Heavy Rock. Oh dear god no. Didn't they already do this?
B. Brian Brunzell Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 They sure did. Zeppelin and Sabbath were #'s 1 and 2.
