What Was The 1st Video....

Recommended Posts

Guest BifEverchad

What was the first tape that you came across, was given, or purchased that started you on the long road of being a collector? Also, what was the latest tape you have just added to your collection?

My first video came from a local corner store that was closing its doors for good. I remember it like it was yesterday, although it was over 14 years ago. There was a rack load of various movies and whatnot for really cheap prices. So when I came across the ONLY wrestling video there, I had to buy it. The tape, Starrcade 87. The price, $.99.

The latest video I've added to my collection was either WCW Souled Out 98 or some TNAs.

Great topic Bif....

One of the best memories I have with my father (RIP) is that we were both wrestling fans, probably more about the WWF scene. This is DEFINITELY one of the reasons I will never give up my wrestling habit. The times it has allowed me to cope with my own personal problems, and I've invested way too much time and memories into the business to ever sour of it.

Anyways, as a kid, after I began to start watching regularly (Hogan/Savage brawl on SNME being my earliest memory) he bought me the Summerslam 1989 master for us to watch. I've since lost the tape, but I still have the box (which is in awesome shape.)

Around the same time, he also bought me "Funniest Moments", "Wrestling Superheroes" and "Hulk Hogan: Real American".

The latest tape I've RECEIVED was Slamboree 1999. The latest tape(s) I've purchased off of eBay was yesterday, with a double-shot of Slamboree 1993 and 1994.

My first video purchase was the 1987 Crockett Cup. Back then before PPV this was how you saw an event. WWF would do closed circuit tv but there was no way to see a NWA event unless you bought the video. Nothing like waiting 6-8 weeks to see an event and still mark for it like crazy.

Most current purchase, some old SNME's.

i had tapes as a child (6 yr old) of snme's that my brothers taped as i was brought up with wrestling. one tape in particular was snme featuring hogan and jyd vs the funks/ jimmy hart and hogan and dog had a midget with them. but those tapes were taped over years later by my bro with nascar. so i guess the first tape that started me BACK was fall brawl 96. latest purchase was today with gordy, rvd, and hbk shoots.

First two tapes I ever had are Demolition(the Coliseum video one) and More of Saturday Night's Main Event.

I used to love the Rockers/Busters and Hogan/Bossman cage match.

I don't have neither of the tapes anymore though. :(

Latest is Best of Confidential.

The first wrestling video I got was a Christmas present from my Dad. It was Royal Rumble '89. I remember going to shop to pick it out with him. I still have it, although it is in the worst shape of any of my other wrestling videos. It is quite literally falling apart.

As for the last one was Before They Were WWE Superstars 2 on DVD. As for an actual tape. That will have been WCW Souled Out 2000.

My first tape was one I taped featuring five full SNME's from 1986-1987. Too bad that was some low-grade blank tape that I'm surprised is even in one piece at this point.

The first one I bought was "WCW's Greatest Grudges". I expected the uncut Piper-Valentine Dog Collar match and got four minutes of clips, the bastards!

My first one was Insurextion 2000- I still think it's one of the better uk ppvs out there. And to think I only started collectig in late 2000 and I've now got over 250....

Last ones were As good as it gets 1997 and Matter of Respect 1998 on dvd

Slamboree 93. I found it at WalMart for $10 during the summer of 94. A little disappointed that it was edited but, since that was the same time I got into WCW, it was still pretty sweet to see guys like Davey Boy, Rude, Dustin, Vader, Windham, and Double A.

Shortly thereafter, I found the three 'Best of' tapes released by Good Times Home Video at my local grocery store (Summer Slam's Greatest Hits, WrestleMania's Greatest Matches, and The Most Unusual Matches Ever). The later featured the Razor / Kid rematch from Raw, Duggan vs. HBK in the lumberjack match from Raw, the Bret / HBK ladder match, and the 4 Doinks Survivor Series bout.

The most recent wrestling 'video' I picked up was the DVD of Royal Rumble 03 (which is notable because I usually don't buy PPVs on DVD due to the price). If we're talking VHS, I picked up Unforgiven 2001 about a month or so after it was released.

First video was SummerSlam's Greatest Hits done by GoodTimes and featured the matches of Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect ('91), Undertaker vs. Kamala ('92), Ted DiBiase vs. Razor Ramon ('93), and Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna ('93).

Latest video I added to my collection would have to be WrestleMaina IX. I have no reason why I bought it other than the fact I like pre-1997 WWF stuff.

That's an Australian's nightmare trying to remember that. I think it was WWF Royal Rumble 1995.

First tape I ever had would be a copy of Best of The WWF vol1, I rented it from a video store and made a copy. The first video I ever bought would be PWI's Great American Bash 85, I used to see it advertised along with Lords of the Ring : Superstars and Superbouts - in the back of my PWI's. Man, I think it took me a couple months to save up enough money to order it, but it was definately worth it! The last tape I have obtained would be a pretty bad copy of WrestleRock 86.

My first tape was Hulkamania, followed by Wrestlemanias VII and IX. I got these from two video stores that were selling them years ago. The latest (although I've kind of slowed down w/ trading) are the Bill Watts, Bret Hart, and Dusty Rhodes shoots, and AWA Wrestlerock '86. -Jimster

the first tape I ever rented and sat down and watched all the way through was the BEST WRESTLEMANIA EVER...NUMBER NINE!

It got me completely hooked on wrestling...as I actually picked it up right after I started watching Raw Is War every week.

My first purchase was actually years later... Wrestlemania 2000...

I waited 7 years to buy something...but blah...I don't care...

my latest: Vengeance this year.

for the record...I buy tapes of the PPV from a friend who records them...starting with WM2000

I'm missing a few...but i don't care.
