The Pretenders - Hymn To Her.

Today, I went shopping and couldn't pick between buying Pretenders Best Of or Cyndi Lauper's Best Of. My coin toss went the way of Pretenders, and thus I made the best decision in my life (I know, my life has been dull). Hymn To Her and I'll Stand By You give me goosebumps.

Don't Turn Around. The name of the group escapes me at this moment, but I heard it on the radio last night.

That's Ace of Base, and it was a 90's song.

Unless you're thinking of "Der Kommisaar" (sp?) by After The Fire, which has the chorus of "Don't turn around, uh oh...Der Kommisaar's in town, uh oh!"

Bow down.

Am I the only one who thought that "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "Together Forever" were the same song?

either way,

"Never Gonna Give You Up" > "Together Forever"

Actually, Falco's version came first, and After The Fire covered him (and translated it,lol).

Here is THE list, Banky (not that you were alive for half of the 80's anyway, you grunge wanker):

Love Will Tear Us Apart, Joy Division

Teen Age Riot, Sonic Youth

Rise Above, Black Flag

Celebrated Summer, Hüsker Dü

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, The Smiths

Gigantic, The Pixies

...And the Cradle Will Rock, Van Halen

Should I Stay or Should I Go, The Clash

Jesus and Tequila, The Minutemen

There's Side A of your 80's disc. Listen to these groups, branch out into the Replacements and the Meat Puppets and the Jesus & Mary Chain and Echo & the Bunnymen, among others, and you'll be on your way.

anything by Rush from 1980-1982... anything after that was a little suspect because they kind of fell in love with synths and sequencers...

But Turn the Page (Hold Your Fire, 1989), The Body Electric (Distant Early Warning, 1984) and Territories (Power Windows, 1985) were excellent songs.

"Ok. I never used to care about this song one way or the other..until I saw this commercial on VH1, of an animated cat, dressed like Boy George, singing this song..

A cartoony chameleon pops out and starts dancing like crazy..then another cat pops up out of nowhere, playing the harmonica.

I've seen it a few times, and every single time, I absolutely lost it. It's the funniest commercial I've ever seen, hands down."

Oh man that commercial is fucking hilarious. I watched VH1 for like a day and a half straight after I saw it the first time just so I could record it onto my random funny shit tape.

Other than a select few ESPN commercials this is probably the funniest commercial ever. Especially when you're high off your ass.

23 seconds of GREATNESS.

"80's stuff worth a shit:

Slayer.

Some Ozzy

A few Rush tracks.

Early Sepultura."

COME ON AoA. Where's the love for JOURNEY? You know they are one of your favorite bands.

I can't believe Journey went on without Steve Perry, he was the heart and soul of that group.

Most of what I would have mentioned has been covered with the exeption of Madness, who were probably my favourite singles band of that decade. 'It Must Be Love', 'My Girl, 'Our House', 'House Of Fun' etc all remind me of that time & different places.

Some of King Crimson's 80's material is really goddamn good, and some of it is incredibly cheesy and bad.

A few good tracks:

"Three of a Perfect Pair"

"Frame By Frame"

"Elephant Talk"

"Discipline"

A few bad ones:

"Heartbeat"

"Matte Kudesai"

"Thela Hun Gingeet"

"Waiting Man"

Prog dweebs rejoice.
