The Old School questions thread

Recommended Posts

1.How did Doring and Roadkill turn face?

I'm not totally sure, but I think it may have happened when Elecktra turned on them for the new Dangerous Alliance.

2.When RVD was the TV Champion did he get pinned in any Tag Matches or Non Title matches?

I vaguely remember Styles mentioning that the Dudleys pinned him sometime in 99 when he and Sabu lost the belts. It may have been a match that took place in Japan or something. I can't remember Rob having any non-title matches as TV Champ, so you can probably rule that one out.

4.When Tony Mamaluke first showed up in ECW I remember a few interviews where Little Guido said he would have to prove himself to be a member of the FBI, since Mamaluke lost his first couple of matches in ECW did they drop the storyline or did they do a backstage segment with Him being inducted into the group?

I don't remember exactly who he beat (I wanna say Guido, but it may have been Sal) but he won a match to get into the group. Guido and Tony won the tag belts shortly afterwards.

5.Did the Dudley Boyz ever fire Joel Gertner? I ask this because in the last 2 matches they had in ECW Gertner is nowhere to be seen.

They gave him 3D after a loss to Balls and Spike.

6.Why did CW Anderson ever join Simon and Swinger?

Hell if I know. I wasn't watching all that often in late 2000, and the CW Anderson push around that time just seemed to come outta nowhere to me.

7.Had RVD not gotten injured and he had won the World Title from Mike Awesome would he have vacated the TV Title(which he would have had for 2 years by this time) or would he have Unified the Belts Like Rhino did?

I doubt it. What reason would have have had for doing that?

8.Any reason behind the way the Sandman was treated in 2000, I can only think of 2 matches that he won on TV in the whole of 2000(the match against Tajiri in the TV Tournament and one against Kintaro Kanemura) and he lost every match against Rhino.

There were rumors that Paul was upset about his leaving for WCW in 98, and as a result, he decided to punish Sandman when he returned. I think I remember hearing Sandman dismiss this, though.

I hope all that's right. I'm real foggy on a lot of ECW stuff.

Thanks, your right about the CW Anderson push coming out of nowhere as he went from the opening match to a Number 1 contenders match at Anarchy Rulz in the space of 2 months.

They did have backstage interviews.

Seemed to me like everything was done either in the ring or on the entrance ramp.

Did Steve Austin and Brian Pillman ever have a one on one match during their feud of 96-97?

Yeah. I forget the exact date, but it was on a Raw in June 97 (probably the week after their scheduled June 9th match that got cancelled when the Harts attacked Austin). The Hart Foundation was cuffed to the ringpost for the match.

The attack was the night after King of The Ring 97, when Pillman gets beat up by Austin at KOTR his Austin 3:16 shirt has the date of their scheduled match written on the back.

WWF @ Lake Placid, NY - June 16, 1997

Raw is War:

Steve Austin defeated Brian Pillman via disqualification when Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, and Davey Boy Smith - who were all handcuffed to seperate ring posts - escaped and attacked Austin; after the bout, Mankind, Goldust, and Ken Shamrock made the save; Austin and Shamrock began brawling until the Legion of Doom seperated the two men and Goldust suggested all five men team up to face the Hart Foundation at Canadian Stampede

That reminds me of something I always wanted to know.If Shawn Michaels had been on TV after KOTR then would he have taken Shamrock or Goldust's place in the 10 man tag at Canadian Stampede?

Probably Goldust's. Shamrock had history with Bret from Wrestlemania (when he threw Bret down after the match), plus there was that angle between he and Austin where Steve gave him the Stunner after he came down to save him from an attack by the Harts.

Aside from an I-C Title 3-Way against HHH and Owen, I can't even remember Goldust being involved with the Harts before Canadian Stampede.

Edit: Forgot about the European Title match against Bulldog where Bulldog tried to hit Marlena with the chair. I'd still say that Shawn would've been better off taking Goldust's spot.

Did Bret Hart ever get revenge on Lex Luger for knocking him out at the WM 9 Brunch?

What the hell was the stipulation of a R.I.P. match at SummerSlam 93?

1. The ORIGINAL booking of WM9 was (I'm pretty sure) for Bret to beat Yoko and move onto a feud with Luger, then Hogan came along and nothing came of that.

2. It was just a regular No-DQ, No-CO match.

Not on TV but Bret did dominate a house show feud with Luger which continued until early July (a few days after the USS Intrepid bodyslam). Luger got a few wins over Bret via the forearm but Bret won the vast majority of bouts.

If Austin hadn't injured his neck at Summerslam 97 then who would he have dropped the Intercontinental Title to? The Most likely place to drop it would be in Montreal at Survivor Series but with the events of that night who would have got the belt?

I doubt that they had planned that far ahead with Austin. He had just gotten the title.

What was Mr. Perfect's last match in the WWF before he left for WCW?

Was McMahon always going to be the RR 1999 winner from the get go or did they have other choices in mind?

How long did HHH have that armor he used to wear for his isle entrance?

The Royal Rumble 99 was always going to be between Vince and Austin, I just didn't think McMahon would be the guy to eliminate Austin.I thought Kane would eliminate Austin and then Kane would eliminate himself due to him being Blackmailed by the Corporation at the time.

Uh, WHAT?

Unless you mean various casts and braces Triple H has donned over the years I have no clue what you mean

He means the chainmail vest, which predates Steiner's King Arthur look several years. I think he cut it out in the fall of 1999, although an exact date is out of reach.

Oh THAT.

I'm guessing from his Post WM heel turn (left D-X) untill D-X reformed that fall

I noticed The Undertaker was not on the KOTR 93 card, anybody know the real and/or kayfabe reason?

Was the kayfabe reason for Bigelow / Tatanka match at RR 94 because of Bigelow cutting Tatanka's sacred hair (I forgot why Bigelow did it to begin with) ? I remember seeing the incident happen on WWF Superstars.

What were WCW and ECW's first PPVs?

Undertaker was attacked by Mr. Hughes on a Superstars(not sure of a date) and Bam Bam Bigelow was a replacement for Ludvig Borga who was injured, Borga would probably have won that because he was rumoured to defend the WWF title against Luger at Wrestlemania 10.

Bigelow was giving an interview, Sherri interupted in order to cuss out Luna. Bigelow told her to bugger off. Then pulled her hair, Tatanka made the save and a fued was born

I don't remember that but I do remember Bigelow jumping Tatanka backstage and cutting off some of his hair. That's what REALLY started things up.

Luna didn't show up with Bam Bam until KOTR 93, IIRC. And Tatanka / Bam Bam started a few weeks prior to that.

Bigelow was doing the interview alone, Sherri came out to bitch about Luna, Bigelow was all like "Its my time bitch", Sherri ignored him. Bigelow got in her facce, the interviewer (I want to say it was Ray Rougeau) tried to make him back off, but he grabbed her hair and she fell to her knees. tattanka made the save, and that is probably why he was attacked a few weeks later and had his head shaved.

Luna was added with Bigelow to combine the fueds i guess.

This incident occured on Superstars during the same week that Mr. Huges beat Jason Knight on Raw. I think Crush main evented Raw that week, but I can't recall

On Superstars on 4/24/93, Raymond Rougeau is scheduled to itnerview Bam Bam Bigelow in a special interview on the interview platform. Ray introduces Bam Bam, but Sherri comes running out and starts complaining about what Luna did to her at WrestleMania IX. Bigelow & Sherri eventually end up arguing because this was after all Bigelow's interview. Bigelow grabs Sherri by the hair threatening her, until Tatanka comes out and atatcks Bigelow and dropkicks him off the stage, and then all the refs/officials break them up

Then later in the same show, Tatanka is scheduled to have a match against Steve Vega, and is introduced the first time, but no Tatanka. He's then introduced again, and again no Tatanka. Vince then says there is something going on backstage and footage is shown on the video wall of Tatanka knocked out cold on the floor and Bigelow cutting Tatanka's hair.

In a Coliseum Video Exclusive match at a Challenge taping Tatanka beats Bigelow by count-out, but then Bigelow atatcks him after the match and cuts more of his hair

This is all recapped quite well on the Year in Review 1993 video (although I have heard this wasn't released in the United States)

In another bit of interest on Superstars on 7/31/93, a bout was about to happen with Sherri and Luna, which didn't take palce due to interference from Bigelow. I think this is Sherri's final WWF TV appearance
