Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 9, 2003 See, I don't really think it's bad luck for the UFC to have Liddell lose. If Liddell won, then the division wouldn't be as strong as it is right now with Randy on top. The Bravo thing is funny because my Buddy HATES Bravo with a passion, so when he saw him on the UFC ppv, he freaked. And I'll just say one thing on Pride... the show looks to live up to the card. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 9, 2003 Oh, and Quadros said on the LAW that P26 was the best Pride card ever.... even better than 25... I won't be expecting it to surpass P25 levels, because that's just crazyness, but it's nice to hear.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted June 9, 2003 Kinda hard to believe, and I can't see how either could be better than 10, but looking forward to it
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 9, 2003 I liked 25 more than 10, but that's maybe because of the commentary which was mindblowingly good. Or that I watched it live while I watched 10 a few years after it happened... The Yvel knockout is better than the Silva one, though
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Well it's on in a few hours, I didn't post any more fights of the day because I read the spoilers and felt it would influence my write-ups and analysis on each fight and fighter. I'm really looking forward to it,.
Guest Ace309 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I swear, Lindland's never gonna get any respect. First, you have his look. Speaks for itself. You have his fighting style, which as a Greco guy I appreciate, but which is hardly revolutionary or exciting to watch. You have the lawsuit to get on the Olympic team. And now he knocked himself out botching a belly-to-belly, the simplest Greco-style move there is? Jesus christ.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Well even with the Coleman/Frye match left this has been pretty kick ass. August 10th Total Elimination 2003 I am there. God bless you Rudo for being such a Pride whore that you got me into it.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Fedor vs. Fujita, for how short it was, was AWESOME! I can't really speak on the rest of the show because I had some 'external issues' to deal with (see; family members who wouldn't SHUT THE FUCK UP SO I COULD HEAR THE GOD DAM MOTHERFUCKING SHOW! GOD DAMMIT!) - but I have it taped and plan on watching it again either later on tonight or tomorrow. It didn't have the "feel" of Pride 25, but it had its share of moments. This night was all about THE LIVAR SHOTS~!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 I can't wait for the middleweight grand prix (I dig the name "Total Elimination" - I wonder if Quadros will do the Joey Styles scream-outta-nowhere bit?) Sakuraba Jackson Silva Overeem (a) Gracie ? ? ?
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Just caught the Pride show and it was great! Don't have time to post extensive comments until tomorrow but what a show. Some spectacular finishes, an instant classic match, Coleman's triumphant return, a huge upset.. ! When you throw in UFC 43, a great month for MMA. And they already have Silva, Sakuraba, Rampage, and Overeem in the MW Grand Prix???!!! I feel sorry for people who aren't seeing this stuff. HOLY SHIT, THAT FEDOR/FUJITA FIGHT RULED! Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted June 14, 2003 (see; family members who wouldn't SHUT THE FUCK UP SO I COULD HEAR THE GOD DAM MOTHERFUCKING SHOW! GOD DAMMIT!) I hear that. It was happening to me between the Allistar fight and the Jackson fight. I threw enough of a fit though where I chased them from the room. To hell with machismo, I'll whine if I am spending 30 bucks on a show and am being prevented from hearing.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted June 14, 2003 I suppose it won't happen since the Chute Boxe guys don't fight each other but imagine if they got Ninja in the Grand Prix too?
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Now for a show like the upcoming middle tourney, will they throw another match or two on there like they use to do for King of the Ring between rounds or is it the tourney and it alone. And I became a huge CroCop mark tonight. The way he was waving for Herring to get the hell up when he was on the ground ruled.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 When Fedor got hit with that right... even though I knew it was coming, I still freaked the fuck out! That triangle on Anderson Silva was a thing of beauty too. I gotta try that one day I like Lindland and I don't. I like his "every day man" appeal, he's a very unassuming fighter and he's with one of my favourite stable of fighters in Team Quest (ok, for Couture and Henderson alone) - but gatdamn is he pretty boring. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 I hear that Cro Crop vs. Fedor might happen at Total Elimination. I also hear Henderson will fight outside the tournament. In his fight with Silva, between the rounds Cro Cop blew a kiss to Wanderlei (TO WANDERLEI!) and when Silva missed with a leg kick, Mirko dusted off his leg as if he kicked dirt on it. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2003 I was a bit disappointed with Frye/Coleman. I expected more, but oh well, the card was still quality, ESPECIALLY Fedor/Fujita. Fedor slapped that choke on like lightning and shit. Total badass stuff. The triangle choke was marvelous. I was marking out like mad for it. It was one of the better triangles I've seen. Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted June 14, 2003 So my August PPV money is between Middleweight tourney + CroCop/Fedor(Maybe) or Goldberg/HHH. Congrats RRR it looks like you made a full time PRIDE convert.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Your world will never be the same again, trust me. When your watching fight scenes in movies like the Matrix, you'll be yelling at the screen "COME ON! Just get em to the ground and triangle his ass!"
Guest commie_050 Report post Posted June 14, 2003 This was actually my first time ordering an MMA PPV, and I have to say, I enjoyed the hell out of it. A few thoughts: - Quentin Jackson is a GOD. If MMA ever gets big in the States, the guy will be leading the charge. Jackson/Silva should be awesome, when it happens. - Fujita/Fedor was an awesome match, with Fujita's big flurry leaving me with a look of open-mouthed amazement the WWE hasn't provided in years. Fedor's finishing combination (the kick, the two punches, and the choke) was breathtaking to watch. - After watching the Cro Cop fight, I'm salivating at the thought of Fedor/Cro Cop. Should be a classic battle of contrasting styles. A show with Fedor/Cro Cop, and a middleweight tourney with the possibility of Rampage and Silva hooking it up gets my money over the WWE any day of the week. - Cole/Frye wasn't extremely exciting (and was pretty much a one-sided affair) but I thought the displays of emotion after the match more than made up for it. That's the thing with MMA, you can tell the guys live and breathe for this stuff. Frye seemed absolutely devastated after the loss, and that kind of real drama really can't be matched in any predetermined environment.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Shit Rudo, I do that already.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Rogerio Nogueira will probably be in the Pride MW GP, I'd live to see Ninja in there too, or Anderson Silva - but 3 Chute Boxe guys is too many. I'd REALLY like to see Carlos Newton in there, though he hasn't been on the winning track for a while. My Ideal GP would be like this: Newton vs. Henderson Silva vs. Overeem Jackson vs. Ninja Sakuraba vs. Rogerio Nogueira
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 What I particularly liked was that Fedor got rocked standing, which is Cro Cops game - thus setting up the psychology for their match... AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN BOOK IT LIKE THAT! Cro Cops avoidance of the takedown really impressed me as well. It's such a natural match up - Fedor vs. Cro Cop. Commie, if you want see more of Jackson (and haven't seen his Sherdog Fight Montage) go here: http://www.sherdog.com/download.cfm?dl=hig...onJacksonLQ.zip I watch it once a day, maybe twice a day... Ok, 3 times a day..
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 I knew Frye vs. Coleman was going to suck going in cause I read the spoilers - so I was expecting an absolute snoozefest. So the match went beyond my expectations. Colemans stand-up really surprised me, and I dug his promo afterwards about just needing the win tonight so he can get the dark cloud out from over his head. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Dude, it's so fucking weird. I almost can't watch fight scenes anymore because of it! When I'm walking around outside I just have the urge to pick fights and triangle them! Just motherfuckin triangle them! THAT'S NOT RIGHT! That's not right at all!... I think I have a problem.
Guest benoitrulz4life Report post Posted June 14, 2003 I think Dan Henderson's recovering from knee surgery, so he may be out. But with Silva, Sakuraba, Jackson, and Alistair already in it, it will still be a pretty righteous tourney. Can't count out Arona (even though he's boring), Randleman, Bustamante, Anderson Silva, Elvis, or Carlos Newton; even though four of them are coming off of losses. Not to mention Arona's just got hurt and Busta hasn't fought in a while. Still shaping up to be a huge card. I'd like to see a superfight btw Fedor and CroCop/Sapp, preferably CroCop, though they might be saving that. Can't count Coleman out either.
Guest Jimmy Saint Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Dude, it's so fucking weird. I almost can't watch fight scenes anymore because of it! When I'm walking around outside I just have the urge to pick fights and triangle them! Just motherfuckin triangle them! THAT'S NOT RIGHT! That's not right at all!... I think I have a problem. Did'nt Mel Gibson do a triangle in one of the Leathal Weapon films ? Royce Gracie was a fight cherographer in one of them, probably the first if I can remember correctly. Still not seen either show. You don't how much of a ball-ache it is livin in the UK with no UFC or Pride being shown on television at all. The wait for the tapes of both events ain't easy. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 15, 2003 I enjoyed this PPV, though not as much as Pride 25. Maybe that was because it had been 5 days removed from the event while P25 was on the same day, maybe because SOME ONE decided to talk very loudly and take my attention away from the event, maybe it was because I was too focused on the 'brighter' picture (Pride events are usually darker than that). My complaints are: Very few pre-fight interviews, very few entrances, and they didn't show the segment w. all the middleweights (Sak, Silva, Jackson, Gracie) in the ring with Takada volunteering for the MWGP. Now, this wouldn't really be an issue because these are not really "big" issues - BUT THEY HAD A HALF HOUR LEFT IN THE SHOW! COME ON! Throw us a freakin bone here! Anderson Silva vs. Daiju Takase Biggest Upset Ever... And by "ever" I mean "since last week" when Couture beat Liddell. That was the prettiest Triangle Choke I've ever seen, and I've seen all of Nogueiras Pride Fights. The way he worked from a headlock, to rolling over Silva and hooking in the triangle... just a work of art. Alistair Overeem vs. Mike Bencic This was underwhelming as I was hoping for Overeem to really make an impression. He is a kickboxer who knows submissions - that's a disgusting combination and he could fare well in the MWGP at Total Elimination 03. Antonio Schembri vs. Kazuhiro Hamanaka The first round was really good with Hamanaka eating a sick knee from Nino and also giving him a pseudo powerbomb. I didn't really dig this last night because of the aformentioned 'distraction', which is why I don't like to judge things on my enjoyment-alone - because that can be affected by external 'complications'. I was hoping Elvis would win so we could see him in the GP in a rematch vs Sak where he (sak) could get his win back - but ah well. Quadros saying that Hamanaka is a baby Coleman scared me; I don't need more GnP in my life. Fedor Emelianenko vs. Kazuyuki Fujita This FUCKING ROCKED!! I watched it 3 times today. Fuck! Just awesome. Fujita nailing that club-like right upside Fedors head was insane. Just insane. But what I watched again and again and again and again was the finish by Fedor giving Fujita a sick liver kick along with a left/right combination and a disgustingly tight rear choke. This fight proved that yes, Fedor is human - but goddamn is he good. Mirko Filipovic vs. Heath Herring Cro Cop is a dick. There, I said it. Herring came out ready, and that may have been his biggest downfall. He should have tried to get Cro Cop in the corner and clinch, then take him down. It's a slow, at times boring, process but it sets up for better and more opportunities. Herring looked really deflated after the fight and I hope he hasn't lost his fire as he came into the match looking in the best shape that he's ever looked. Cro Cops dickery made the match though, his "get up" motions and the helping hand had me on the floor. The Liver kick looked like it really shook Heath up and Cro Cop threw some pretty mean lefts when Herring was down and has a wicked sprawl. Very impressive showing. Mark Coleman vs. Don Frye I was disappointed in Frye. I was hoping to see him go balls out, but instead he played a very conservative game. Coleman actually beat him standing up, which surprised me. Fryes takedown defense was good, but it seemed like he didn't train at all on how to work from his back. This fight wasn't as boring as I'd thought it would be, but it certainly wasn't a barnburner. Quinton Jackson vs. Mikhail Illoukhine Serious Pimp. Fuck Wanderlei up. Jackson's Promos rule. That was a killer slam he did on Mikhhhhhhail and it looked as if he was trying to spike Illouk*spit*'s head into the mat with it. Is it me, or did Mik kinda look like Tom Billington?? I liked the counter to the keylock but i especially liked how Mik cradled Jacksons legs to try to keep it on him. The end, much like the Overeem fight, was anti-climatic. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 15, 2003 They also did a really good job hyping up the next PPV, PrideFC: Total Elimination 2003. So much so that this event kinda felt like a transition PPV - well, I guess cause it was. But it was a good one and it accomplished what it wanted to. Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2003 I hope Arona enters the GP, just because I'm a big fan of Hicardo. I swear though, I think I'm only a fan because of his GREAT promo before his match with Ninja. It dripped with greatness. Dripped. Where is El Minotauro when you need him? I think he's still pissed off, and can't wait to see him gain revenge at his next PRIDE event, which will no likely be against Akira Shoji or something. When watching Neo fight all the Mr. Smiths, I actually DID think it looked terrible. I swear MMA has made me see action movies in a whole new light. I think there's money for either Cro-Cop or Fedor to be great Bond villains someday, and hey, that could be in the contract for their next fight...
