Guest DerangedHermit Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 She's not that bad...with the exception of "Sk8er Boi". Now that was shite.
Guest bob_barron Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Even I, the biggest Avril fan, HATE Sk8er Boi. What a wretched song
Guest Ghettoman Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Avril wasn't over until she hated on Britney, her musics pop with an anti-pop message, and she considers herself something more meaningful then the rest of the pop world....overall a talentless hypocritical misconstrued wannabe who can't even sing live, I'll take the occasional lip-syncing over her horrible voice.
Guest INXS Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 She only signs for kids Anyway yes- I LOVE Avril Lavigne's music and hope she's around for years to come Well, fuck her then. That's why artist like her and many others dont last long. They only make their music for kids and when the kids grow up or get sick of her she's done and scratching her head wondering why. That why bands like Matchbox 20, Dave Mathews, Chili Peppers, etc seem to be able to stick around and be successful. They aim their music towards college kids and adults. People who already found their musical taste and stick with it. Pop artist, Pop Punk and Miss Lavigne will never get that or wont understand that until it's too late.

Why should Avril Lavigne sign for asshole autograph collectors who don't even care about her or are just going to end up selling the autograph?
Guest Si82 Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 After hearing her destory "Fuel" I have to vote no.
Guest bob_barron Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Is that the Metallica song she sang at that Icon special? I never heard it so I'm just wondering. I do love her cover of Knocking on Heaven's Door

So you're saying anyone over 19 is an "asshole autograph collectors who don't even care about her or are just going to end up selling the autograph?" Beautiful.
Guest bob_barron Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Were you at the Letterman appearance like I was? Didn't think so. It was me, my friend and the rest were a bunch of asshole autograph collectors who couldn't give two shits about Avril yet wanted her to sign something so they could make a profit off of it or continue to think that their meaningless autograph collecting lives actually mean something in the long run cause they were able to get Avril Lavigne's autograph. People who were waiting for her were actually asking me who she was and ridicilous questions like that. Avril had every right to not sign for them EDIT: I downloaded Avril's version of Fuel. Good God did that suck.
Guest INXS Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 That is not what you said the first time. You said she ONLY signs autographs for kids and teenagers. EDIT I almost forgot. Leno owns Letterman.
Guest Si82 Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Is that the Metallica song she sang at that Icon special? I never heard it so I'm just wondering. I do love her cover of Knocking on Heaven's Door It was indeed. I had heard about it but I only got to hear it yesterday. I now wish I hadn't.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I like good pop. I hate Avril Lavigne with a passion. If she had the common decency to come out and say "Yeah, I don't write my songs, I'm not really a punk, I'm just a pop artist. Deal with it" then I could handle her. But she just gives off the impression that she's better than everyone and deserves the fame she has. She's the reason radios have off switches.
Mecha Mummy Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 No matter how good her other stuff is, when I think Avril, I think "Sk8er Boi". Meaning she's fucked for quite a while when it comes to my opinion of her.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 so much crap in this thread. Leno > Letterman - No Matchbox 20 has sustained a level of sucess over time - No Barron looks like that kid on Malcom in the Middle - Yes As for Avril, she doesn't actively offend me as so much music does, so I guess I'm neutral. I found her Metallica cover highly amusing. Don't get me started on Metallica.
Guest Kinetic Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I don't want to seem like I'm coming to the defense of Avril Lavigne or anything, but the whole notion that a person isn't talented if they don't write their own music/lyrics is ridiculous. Have you ever heard of Motown? None of those people, with the exception of Smokey Robinson, were writing their own songs until Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder started doing so in the early 70s. That's a list that includes the likes of The Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Jackson 5, etc. If you want to take it further, incredibly talented singers like Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield never wrote any of their own stuff; they just interpreted it and gave it a personality. So to say that Avril Lavigne or Britney Spears or anyone else is automatically untalented simply because they're not songwriters is not only unfair, but also shows an incredible amount of ignorance towards popular music history.
Guest Sturgis Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I seriously want to give her a wedgie, don't ask. I thinks hot so yeah I'd bone her.
Guest AndrewTS Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I think she's decent enough. Sk8er Boi is a pox on humanity, but the rest of her stuff is not that bad. Indeed. I hate her.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 If she had the common decency to come out and say "Yeah, I don't write my songs, I'm not really a punk, I'm just a pop artist. Deal with it" then I could handle her. But she just gives off the impression that she's better than everyone and deserves the fame she has. I think that she HAS come out and said that she doesn't consider herself a true punk, but the media has given her that reputation as a selling point. Methinks that the people that hate her will continue to hate her, and the people that dig her will continue to dig her, regardless of this thread. Me personally, I don't dislike her music (for the most part) and don't dislike her appearance (for the most part) so she's A-OK in my book.
Guest bob_barron Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I think that she HAS come out and said that she doesn't consider herself a true punk, but the media has given her that reputation as a selling point. You got it. Oh and Letterman OWNS Leno
Guest Ripper Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Um...first, Conan owns them ALL!!!!! ... and Jay owns Dave.... AND, Avirl is fine in my book. She has a alright voice, her music is okay and she is cute(blah, blah, blah make-up, she looks fine without it you trained to only love perfect looking women sheep.. ). She falls into the same boat as Britney in my eyes. She is has a alright voice(okay, seriously, she would win karaoke night at most places...you wanna hear a bad voice, listen to ME sing...now thats no talent) she is alright on the eyes, a GREAT performer so of course she gets called a talentless slut for some reason. People just like to hate.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 She's done what any good Pop songwriter needs to do. Write simple songs. Songs as simple as a lullaby, so that the kids can easily catch on, enjoy it and get down, which will in turn make here a fucking millionairess. Simple songs + the kids= $$$$$$$$ My explanation doesn't say much for the kids of today, does it?
Guest Ripper Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Ever really look at the lyrics of the songs that you listened to growing up...not a pretty sight.
Guest Renegade Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 To put it short I cant stand her, and I cant see why people think shes hot.
Guest bob_barron Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 To all the people who hate Sk8er Boi- Yes that song is absolute shit and the fact that the word boy is spelled to b-o-i despite both being three letters makes me cry BUT She has 12 other songs (13 if you count I Don't Give A Damn- which is MUCH better live) so don't hate her just on that song. The other 12 are awesome
Guest Renegade Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 It's all about your taste in music, I've heard about seven songs on let go and I hated every one of them.
Guest bob_barron Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Fair enough- I just noticed some people hate her just for Sk8er Boi

B. Brian Brunzell Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Ever really look at the lyrics of the songs that you listened to growing up...not a pretty sight. Well, my mom and dad had me listening to bands like Pink Floyd, Renaissance, The Doors, and The Who when I was a kid. However, when I listen to some of the typical 80s stuff that I loved as a kid, the lyrics are nothing special. Well, except for Prince.
