Lance Storm unhappy and a new upcoming gimmick

Recommended Posts

Guest it-lenny
Read his website - Lance is one angry man.

but hes getting paid.. tell him to get the hell out of WWE and do some Indy work for awhile, then he'll appreciate what he had..

fuckin crybaby :bonk:

Um, I don't know. Raven makes more on the indies than he did in the WWE. Maybe Lance could too.

Are you Raven's accountant? LOL.. you obviously dont really know what most of the indys pay their workers....

Raven has openly stated MULTIPLE times that he makes more in the indies. The only true variable there is that some people try to undercharge him or cancel the shows.

and you believing what he says makes you a blind mark

Awww, that SOOO hurts my feelings. What was Raven's pay in WWE? Do you know, smart one? Please, educate the 'blind mark', because I remember reading that the average midcarder makes like 10K per month. Can anyone confirm this?

I never claim to know what anyone's paid, but I do know from relations with guys in the indy scene that the average worker in WWE makes a lot more then indy guys. Even indy guys like Raven that work for any and all feds out there.

I like Raven and I wish he was in WWE still but him saying he is making more now on the indy scene seems ridiculous to me.

In the end, I'm a fan like you and his pay doesnt matter to me

Rarely. They usually chant "asshole" to Vince. A very large chunk of Ricos heat is "Rico's gay".

Well, yeah, the VAST majority of indy guys can't even touch what even Crash is making. Until I know what Raven was paid in WWE, I'll be a good Scott Levy mark and take his word for it.

Heh I know, I was just being picky there

Rico's heat was mostlt because he was managing a gay team BUT most of the chanting was in his direction rather than Billy or Chucks, that counts for something in my eyes

At one time Rico was able to get a surprising amount of heat, and he does know how to work the crowd (before he moved to Raw), but in the past few months he's been coasting.

Storm had his shot to do his thing, at SummerSlam (the 2nd biggest PPV of the year), as IC champ, in one of those long matches that everyone whines about him not getting, as part of what was (supposed to be) the biggest angle of the year. Had he got over during that match, Vince and Co. would have pushed him further. The fact that they didn't follow up on it -- and the fact that at the time NO ONE CARED THAT THEY DIDN'T FOLLOW UP ON IT -- kind of tells you how much Storm got himself over doing what was supposed to get him over. It's not like they were hesitant to push other Alliance members, so you can't do the "WCW guy" thing. Where was all the "How come Storm's not being pushed sentiment after SummerSlam? It wasn't until the Invasion flopped that people looked back and realized, "Hey they could have pushed this guy and that guy better." But at the time, Storm faded away and it didn't even register. RVD, Rhyno and even Tazz wouldn't have faded away during Invasion without so little attention paid to it. Even when DDP faded away people noticed. No one noticed Storm.

But the crowd was hot for that match. The fact they didn't build it, nor develop Storm into a strong character/wrestler (infact, he was pathetically booked), and were still interested in the match is a testiment to both wrestlers abilities.

I can very easily do the "WCW Guy" thing, considering they used the alliance to GET OVER WWE GUYS! Test, Christian, Regal, Dudleys, Austin...

And there was people upset that Storm didn't get the proper push, I recall there being outrage to jobbing to a midget.

What in the world are you talking about? The match drew in the fans, but the moment the match was over, it was no longer "Hey, Edge just beat Lance Storm in a great match" it was "Hey, Looks like Edge and Christian might be breaking up."

Everyone says, "Give Lance Storm 10-15 minutes to wrestle and show his stuff and he'll get over." He got it right there and he still isn't over. The "biggest angle of the year" I was talking about was the invasion. Lance is a good wrestler, but he just doesn't have "it," whatever "it" is.

First off, the match was 7 minutes, but that's not my point. My point is that the match isn't enough. He was thrown to the wayside the next night. If they announcers had hyped up the match and played up the fact that it was a hard fought contest, INSTEAD of playing up dissention between Edge and Christian, then Lance would still at least have been in the minds of the fans.

If the No Mercy Ladder match between E&C and the Hardys weren't followed up by the pushes that they received, they never would have advanced as quick as they did.

How Lance vs. Edge was an integral part of the InVasion is beyond me. Care to explain?

Wait a minute. The women's match went LONG?

How the fuck does a match that goes less than four minutes run long?

JHawk, all that means is that Storm and Steiner would have gotten an extra minute or so for Storm to get an offensive move or two in. You know, to make it look like he wasn't a TOTAL jobber.

Why is he an idiot, i feel the same way

ok let's see what we learn when we listed to BOB BARRON..

Oh boo fucking hoo Lance.

You got a big push last winter and it failed. He should be lucky to be employed

It's already been established many times that Lance never got a 'big push'. Even with the hideous UnAmericans gimmick.. he never got much in the way of singles wins.. never was pushed as the main guy.. and that was his biggest push because that was the only time he got ANY mic time at all.

I'm not saying it was Lance's fault. But he got a push and failed to get over from that push.

Why should WWE give him ANOTHER one?

Yes indeed. Why should any wrestler get another chance if they've had a (marginal, in Lance's case) push and it failed?

This logic astounds me.

Remember that pitiful wrestler The Ringmaster? Was given a push as Ted Dibiase's protege and couldn't get over.

WHY shouldn't they have repackaged him and given him another push? Ask Bob I guess.

They also once gave this newcomer named Rocky Maivia a HUGE push. To say he didn't get over would be putting it generously. Master wrestling promoter Bob Barron would never have given him another push. Sorry guys, one push is all you get, no matter how ill-conceived, and if you don't get over, you're JOBBER FOR LIFE! How you like that?

I am not saying Storm is in Austin or Rock's league (although the current Lance Storm is most definitely better than the original Rocky Maivia was), but all Barron is saying is you get one push, and that's all you should get, end of story. You think that's not idiotic?

RVD's ability is acrobatics, which he was able to display at InVasion and SS and he stayed over after that.

Storm can do acrobatics too. He just doesn't because he's a heel and proper heels don't do that sort of thing.

Sure he became a face within a heel stable, but there were other guys who got over as heels during the WCW/ECW thing (Booker T, Kanyon, Rhyno, Dudleys) who were supposed to be heels.

Dudleys were already over before that - and got over by using tables. Booker T got over much later with those (horrible) skits with Goldust which were made entertaining on Booker T's ability alone as a straight man - total respect for Booker T there, but that's not ring related, nor does it come into the confines of a 5 minute match. Kanyon, over? Whuh? Rhyno, huh?

Back to Storm, though. Lance's ability is technical wrestling, right?

In the WWE? No. Lance's "technical ability" was dummed down to the kick-punch style that we've all come to know and love.

At InVasion and SS he was allowed to do that, yet he didn't get or stay over. Before InVasion, Lance was the first WCW guy to show up in WWF. At InVasion he was in the very first WCW vs. WWF match (which was supposed to be a big deal), he was partnered with his Mike Awesome (a tag team that was over in WCW, which also allowed Lance to work with someone he was comfortable with; RVD was thrown out there with Jeff Hardy, who needs to be carried and RVD hadn't worked with before).

You're kidding me right? Oh that poor RVD! Having to move around all those smoke and mirrors in that match with Jeff Hardy! It must have been very tough! And of course, you conveniently left out the fact that Storm _lost_ that match, while RVD _won_ his. Did Storm/Awesome vs. Edge/Christian have any build up? Oh wait, it had storm losing to Christian a week before the PPV as well. *Smacks head* oh yeah, I forgot, silly me. Man, with all that build up for Storm it's hard to imagine anyone fucking it up. And then there was that EPIC 3 minute match with Jericho where Storm tapped out. Shit, they just gave Storm the goldberg push there, HOW COULD HE HAVE EVER FUCKED IT UP?!

Lance was also put up against the most over tag team in WWF in Edge and Christian. Enough of a push for you?

Um, no. Should it be? You *do* know that a push doesn't _just_ consist of "being there" right? The WWE has to _do something_ with you as well to make it mean anything. It's like giving him a car with no gas. It's like saying Jericho got a push when they gave him the undisputed title. You don't actually think that... do you?

At SummerSlam, as Intercontintental Champion no less (they even aborted their precious Albert push for Lance's sake) Lance was given plenty of time to do a technical match with an already-over babyface (Edge).

And the match was one of the best on the card and one of Edges best match up to that point in time (hell, it was Edges best singles match). The IC title is meaningless btw, esp. when you win it in a 2 minute throwaway match which STILL has a screw job ending and Edge transitioned into a feud with Christian while Storm was left out in the cold - so could you explain to me how Storm fucked it up? Oh, it must have been in that Saturn/Moppy match, or that Kurt Angle squash, or that tag match where he and credible lost to E&C before the PPV or maybe his entire title run where he was made to look like a total fucking goof!?

Oh, and the next night on raw, they must have done something really special with this former IC champion.. HOLY SHIT! A MATCH WITH THE ROCK! WHATTANOPPORTUNITY! YEAH! BIG TIME! What? 3 minutes? Looked like a bitch? Took a ppls elbow from a midget? Well, shit, what a better fucking push than that!

So both Storm and RVD were given equal opportunity to get over leading up to SummerSlam, right? In fact, you could argue Storm was given an easier road. Now, who stayed over? RVD. Who didn't? Lance Storm.

Oh yeah, Storm was given the much easier road of being pushed as a total goofball and not having a serious win in his entire stay there.

That's what I like to see from Rudo. Damn I'd love to battle ya in EWR.

And just as an aside, Goldust got over Booker T. Booker didn't do it himself at all.

Booker T got himself over as a heel (well, Shane McMahon helped a bit, but not too much) in his mini-feud with Kurt Angle and in the feud with The Rock. He then got over as a babyface during the nWo thing. Goldust certainly helped, but he didn't carry Booker to babyface-dom or anything.

But the point is that even with all kinds of help -- from William Regal to Christian to Test to the Alliance to Chief Morely to flag-burning -- Lance Storm still ain't over.

OT: Nah but you can just send the save over AIM like me and my friend do. There's really no way to cheat as the game autosaves -and we keep an excel chart of all the wrestler stats.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can't say Booker did it himself. Shane and The Rock helped him get over as a heel and Goldust helped him get over as a face with the skits. Booker T tried to get himself over when Goldy got zapped and the only time the crowd cared was when he said sucka or did a spinaroonie.

Those skits w/ Goldust really helped Booker out. It was around the WM period and he was in that particularly horrible feud with Edge IIRC. The "at the movies" segment was bad, but made good because of Booker T (and Goldust, though Booker got the most out of it)

I don't recall the crowd ever really caring for Booker until then. They set him up to be a wannabe Rock, failing to get auditions and people not knowing who he is... just bad.

I know I'm probably going to come off as the stereotypical negative doomsayer internet wrestling fan, but...

In regards to Rico being repackaged as a Adrian Street redux. The Adrian Street character (as I understand it) was a guy who acted like the embodiment of prissy and came off all effite, but once the bell rang he beat the shit out of people savagely in a manner as "bad ass" as could be.

Great character.

But doesn't it seem a little too complex and deep for WWE? Shallow stereotypes seem to be the rule of the day with gimmicks. Rico as Adrian Street 2K3 seems a little too sophisticated. Especially with "effeminate" or "gay" characters. They usually end up as "hey, look at me as I get my ass kicked by some tough guy who's so cool as to be disgusted by my being different? Ain't it funny to see me get squashed?"

Also, let us not forget this would be a Non-Vince-Created character he'd be using...

I don't dispute that this is a great character idea. I don't dispute that Rico could pull it off. And I have a strange curiousity to see how much Jackie Gayda has improved one year removed from her legendarily atrocious mic work and ring work when last we saw her on Raw (and wouldn't it be great if all of a sudden she was hella good now? Yes, it would, shut up).

But whether it's bad bookers and/or writers, or neutered and restrained bookers and/or writers, or backstage political corruption, or whatever it is, the WWE has an uncanny ability to take "can't miss" angles and characters, and miss by a mile.

While I certainly don't want to see the Reverse Midas Touch act upon Rico's new image, part of me suspects it quickly will. Let's hope I'm wrong. It's a good thing when I am...

Remember the UnAmericans?? Lance got a push from July-March. It failed. The end.

They were too chicken shit to run with the whole Un-American concept. It was basically just them spouting off some anti-American rhetoric and getting their ass kicked by stupid rednecks like John Layfield. They should've let them burn the flag... but they wussed out.
