Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 28, 2003 In 2001, he was feuding with Austin and HHH. This time he is just.......there Which is his fault.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted June 28, 2003 Isn't he pencilled in for a triple threat title match for Summerslam with Angle and Brock? Or was that just b.s.? I know GameCop was the one who posted it. Gunn can have that hunk of junk midcard title. The near total non-planning of the tournament shows how much WWE cares for it. Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 28, 2003 It's almost as if the WWE feels threatened by Benoit... JR:"We can't let him go out there and do 20+ with Eddie anymore." Vince:"Why not?" JR:"C'mon Vince, the kid is a showboat! All them twisty slams, flying moves...too flashy. He'll make A-Train and Nash look horrible!" Vince:"Hmm, we can't have that. I'm counting on those two to headline WMXX next year. Tell you what, I'll have Stephanie use him to put over Bill DeMott in a Velocity feud. DeMott deserves it." Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2003 Gunn's character and image is muck now. Somehow he's made a name for himself where he still draws pops. But how long will it last? He's been in the midcard forever. How long before the fans stop giving a shit. He doesn't have the character that can wait out the midcard like Cena or Angle or hell even Big Show. I fixed it. Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted June 28, 2003 He breaks damn near every single generalization that WWE has for a top guy, and remains over. I love it. In the same vein, it amuses the hell out of me that RAW has 'all the big sportzzzzz entertainment DRAWS~!' yet there isn't a new fan to be seen, house shows always range from 2000-4000 people and it's been the case since who-knows-when. Then you get the testicle-free rationalizations about downturns and cycles.
Guest Creepy Crawl Report post Posted June 28, 2003 Billy Gunn with the US Title ? Thats just well ............... fucking dumb as hell . Now Im starting to hate Smackdown even more than I already do . The show just dont do much for me . I was thinking more along the lines of Cena or Hardy but Mr Ass ? Vince has truly lost touch with reality and the fans .
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 28, 2003 And Benoit has had a few periods of un-overness. Particulalry in mid 2000 right before his feud with the Rock started. The guy was drawing crickets. Considering that he _just_ arrived in the WWE and the fans weren't aware of his *strongest* quality (matches) and the fact that the WWE brought them in as a group that can be understandable. Another time would be right after the heel turn of 2002. People seem to like Benoit more as a face. *Ding* Of course, the heel turn was not Benoits fault _at all_ given that they turned him IN HIS HOMETOWN WITH NO HYPE WHATSOEVER. However, this time he is doing nothing of note. In 2001, he was feuding with Austin and HHH. This time he is just.......there. And he was in the hottest (and many say "best") match of the year with Austin on the Smackdown in Edmonton and was getting *very* over as a face in that time period. The WWE refuses to capitalize on it, however, and would rather see him lose all of his heat by completely burying him down the card rather than build him up as a main eventer because he doesn't fit their view of what a ME should be. Billy Gunn, on the other hand, get's push after push after push after push because Vince has a hard-on for him and even though each of those pushes end with the WWE going back to the drawing board because Billy Gunn is strictly a Mid-Card Talent who people cheer for god-knows-why (maybe something to do with DX, I dunno) but won't accept as anything higher than a novelty act like Rikishi because simply put his skills are painfully basic and his only defining element is his rear-end. Billy Gunn gets the "Yay, it's Billy Gunn!" cheers, not the "Yay, here's something good" cheers. The pops stop when he begins to wrestle.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 I never said any of these things were Benoit's fault. His lack of charisma is his problem, but horrible booking is the WWE's problem. However, RRR, why are you getting on me for an ASSUMPTION you made about me blaming Benoit for his horrible pushes? Why not get on everyone else who blames the hosses for the pushes they get? It's not Gunn's fault he gets 2,001 pushes. Double standards yet again.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted June 29, 2003 It's Gunn's fault that the 2001 pushes don't work.
Adam 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Yes, its Gunns fault because he sucks. Plain and simple.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted June 29, 2003 I think Zack and I are the only Sean O'Haire fans on this board. Oh, and yes, I must agree that CanadianChick is hot. Quite so.
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Why not get on everyone else who blames the hosses for the pushes they get? Truthfully, Ross and Vince get blamed, which is absolutely just. BTW, Anglesault ended up being 100% correct about Sean O'Haire, and this is from someone who liked him in WCW. Malibu, you talk about moves that O'Haire USED to bust out (such as the springboard clothesline, Seanton Bomb, and flying spin kicks), but he doesn't do ANY of these things anymore. Regardless of why that is, none of us should be waiting for him to do those moves. Either he does them or he doesn't, and he chooes not to, and thus his matches stink. Managing to drag down both Benoit AND Eddie to his level is certainly a remarkable feat.
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 5 Star, why don't you offer something to the board?
Guest JDMattitudeV1 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Benoit should win the US tilte, defend it sucessfully every week on Smackdown for a couple of months before jobbing it to Cena, Hardy or Rhyno. That will give the belt credibility. If Gunn wins it it becomes the Hardcore tile V2.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Yes, but no one here seems to believe that Benoit should ever job, so if ever did job to one of those guys this place would explode as a mass amount of bandwidth would be used to complain.
LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 To be honest i'd much rather see Angle vs. Brock go at it at a big ppv like SummerSlam. Eh, on the other hand they could have just had Brock vs. Benoit, or maybe even Brock. vs. Cena rematch instead of sticking Big show in every Smackdown title match. Billy Gunn winning the U.S. Title........jesus...........this guy must have supreme dick sucking skills cause he's had more fuckin chances and failed pushes than anyone else ever in WWE. What the hell do they see in this guy? Bad Blood's low buyrate would be the only good news, and the thing that makes it good is that maybe WWE will sometime soon see the fuckin light and stop the dumb segments and hoss pushing. Also, Jim Ross couldn't leave or step down from his position soon enough for me. He's the mastermind behind bringing in or pushing these hosses constantly. JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Matt Hardy has been putting on good matches with just about anybody and the crowd loves him, so WWE decides to put the U.S. title on Billy Gunn, who can barely get over with Torrie Wilson in his corner?
Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Why would anyone want the Angle/Brock rematch right now? Vengeance isn't important enough, Angle's not back to full fitness yet, but most importantly it would be insanity to have a match between the two of them as the type of faces they are at the moment. There's just no friction between them at all, and the match would have way less meaning than it should. They should go with the Three Way, as it sticks Show in with the two people he can have good matches with and allows Angle to win by pinning Show, thus precipitating a Brock heel Turn that would lead to a Summerslam match. Angle desparately needs a strong heel to play off to make his face character work, and looking at the Smackdown roster it seems that Brock is the only main guy in a position to fulfill that role. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Why would anyone want the Angle/Brock rematch right now? Vengeance isn't important enough Because it is a huge match that just about everybody wants to see since Angle and Brock are closer to being at 100% than they were before WM. Sticking Big Show in this match will only fuck this up. Besides, they need a BIG match to help get more buyout rates for Vengeance since it's Smackdown first brand-only American PPV. What they SHOULD do is turn Brock heel again since Angle is a babyface now. Even Brock said himself that he enjoyed playing a heel better. I really like Lesnar when he was the unstoppable monster. Now he's all nice and shit, fuck that! *still waiting for Benoit/Lesnar to happen

The Backlash match just went too badly. What are you talking about? That was the best Smackdown match on the PPV! The tag match was SO much better than that snoozefest. Add the almost total lack of crowd heat (only a Cena chant) and the lousy buyrate (Goldberg's fault) Disaster
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 29, 2003 What they SHOULD do is turn Brock heel again since Angle is a babyface now. Even Brock said himself that he enjoyed playing a heel better. I really like Lesnar when he was the unstoppable monster. Now he's all nice and shit, fuck that! Maybe it's the nature of the gimmick, but both Goldberg and Brock were heatless as heels (except for Summerslam where Brock was a face for the night). Since Brock still can't work the stick worth a damn, how would they pull off a heel turn for him?
Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Sorry, but thats just not true. Brock, once they had him stop doing retarded shit like needing his fat manager to help him beat the Hardyz, managed to get over as a heel very well. His feud with the Undertaker showed some real development in terms of building a suitably nasty heel character. Had a nice sadistic streak going that I haven't seen in any WWE heel for ages. How to turn Brock? Simple, have Angle win the title via pinning Show and have Brock snap. In order to further emphasise his heelness just let Brock destroy Hogan again. No Paul Heyman, though. No matter how badly they've been booked, Angle, Brock and Show all look a hell of a lot more credible now than they did when they all seemed to need Heyman to be title holders. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Brock was heatless because he hadn't established himself - to the crowd he was just-another-monster. After the Hogan win and the subsequent Rock-feud, people started to really take notice. RRR: Really wanting Heel Brock vs. Face Angle.
Guest Showstoppa Icon Report post Posted June 29, 2003 RRR: Really wanting Heel Brock vs. Face Angle. Id like to see that at summerslam (or vengeance). Id liek to see a face Kurt win that, then have the rubber match with them being both faces at wrestlemania 20.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 The tag match was soooo much better You might think that, but the crowd wasn't going for it (notice the boring chants). The only times they got into it was when Eddie was getting chants later and when the Guerreros jacked the belts. Lesnar/Cena had a lot more crowd reaction, even most of the Worchester fans were rooting for Cena (because he's from MA) despite the heat promo he cut in the beginning. Sure, maybe Cena wasn't as developed as he could have been, but I enjoyed the match. There was no way in hell Cena was going to win the title, but it was still entertaining to watch. RRR: Really wanting Heel Brock vs. Face Angle. I agree, lets hope Big Show stays the hell out of the main event this time.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted June 30, 2003 Billy fucking Gunn!!!!!???!?! Hey guys, I understand that the US is too little for Benoit but Billy Gunn??? Why not try creating new stars instead of some overpushed, boring, and lazy champion that he would make. How about guys like Cena, Spanky, Kanyon, Rhyno, etc...... Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2003 Face versus Face has been done so often and is boooring. What we need is a good big of heel on face action and someone please tell Brock to stop smiling as much - it's killing his character.
