Nothing particularly new to report now, but I'm going on a huge buying spree tomorrow. I plan on walking out of the store with a veritable stack.

And is the Rhino reissue of Get Happy!!! out now, or did you just find an original copy somewhere?

I just ordered it from a swedish mailorder company. It's apparently an edition that was released in 1993 by Demon Records.

I picked up a couple brutal death numbers I was missing.

Morbid Angel-Covenant

This pay check is most likely going to get me some Nick Cave (any recommendations?), and possibly some more Zappa.

I got 3 CDs the other day

1919 Eternal - Black Label Society

The Art Of Balance - Shadows Fall

Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys

It pisses me off that the new Dream Theater CD is £30, I'm not buying it on principle, I don't care if it's a double CD, If i wanted 2 CDs I would buy two. Wankers.

Billy Joel: Greatest Hits 1971-1985.

Amazing double album. There's not a single song on it I don't like.

I bought 'Herzeleid' by Rammstein and 'Talking heads:77' today, and i had a hard time haggling myself down to just those two. Bastard HMV sale.

Nick Cave's a goodie. You'll probably want to avoid his more recent albums--most of his stuff that I've heard from The Boatman's Call onward is a bit soft for your liking, methinks. Murder Ballads sounds like it would be an awesome place to start just by merits of the title, but hidden beneath all the tales of killing are duets with Kylie Minogue. Be forewarned.

Let Love In is where a lot of people start--it has his only real 'hit,' "Red Right Hand," and a good blend of stuff that's just aggression and noise and then more plaintive and peaceful. That's from 1994, I think. His earlier albums from the 80's are a bit more bluesy. I'm not an expert but a few of my friends are, and probably the best way to approach him is to just download a few tracks off some different albums. His sound changes a lot over the 20 years he's been recording and can sometimes be hit or miss. Download some stuff off Kicking Against the Pricks or The Firstborn is Dead if you want to get a feel for that period.

The spree has occurred. I ended up getting only 3 CDs I'd planned on getting, which is part of the allure of the whole "Imma go binge on music now" approach. The acquisitions:

Andrew WK - Tear It Up CD/DVD single

CCR - Chronicle

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Modest Mouse - Building Nothing Out Of Something

Mos Def - Black on Both Sides

No Doubt - Rock Steady

Queens of the Stone Age - R

R.E.M. - New Adventures in Hi-Fi

So: some blissful cock-rock, classic southern blues-rock, one of the best pop albums ever, a personal favorite, cerebral rap, guilty dancy fun, hard hard wonderful rock, and finally a real copy of New Adventures after living off a burn for 3 years. Not a bad haul.

I bought Prince's 1999 for my turntable last week, along with some other fine albums from that era.

Andrew WK - Tear It Up CD/DVD single

Ho ho, sat here in my downloading program-free world I've just realised I haven't even heard that yet. I deserve to die.

If you see it anywhere, I'd pick it up--it was only $4 here in the US, and it's pretty neat. There's a BRILLIANT message from Andrew himself in the liner notes--it starts "Hello and thank you for getting this CD! It's a cool bunch of stuff cram jammed onto a couple of spin discs! Yay!" The DVD disc has all the videos and some really great live footage.

As for the songs themselves: "Tear It Up" is GREAT and would be a perfect first set closer. "Your Rules" is merely okay, but I think it's a bit of a grower and it definitely has some nice harmonies. Delightful $4 experience.

And the beauty of it? His and Frank Black's new album's are released the same day, Sept. 9th. I'm going to write to Tony Blair demanding a national holiday, it's not like he's busy.
