Guest ToddRoyal Report post Posted July 20, 2003 Promotion of the mid-year -RoH - Ring of Honor really came into its own this year, and will hopefully be around for a long time. Match of the mid-year -Benoit/Angle, RR 03 - I was there live and it was an AMAZING match. Even better when you consider they brought a dead crowd (HHH/Stiener) to a standing ovation. Tag team of the mid-year -America's Most Wanted - A better overall team than Team Angle/WGTT, but barely. Hopefully TNA keeps them together and doesn't split 'em up. Shelton and Charlie seem to be destined for singles eventually. Wrestler of the mid-year -AJ Styles - Angle is DQ'd because he missed a good portion of the year. London didn't compete enough (in readily available matches) to count. Raven was consistently good, and Brock made Big Slow look good MULTIPLE times which is nothing to slouch at, but Styles went from "that indy guy" to a legit name this year. Champion of the mid-year -Samoa Joe, ROH - Angle and Kojima are out for too short title reigns, and Jarrett's reign had WAY too many screwy endings of important matches. Joe has brought a hell of a lot of credibility to ROH's belt, and a lengthy reign with clean finishes is what makes this category. Tag Champions of the mid-year -Team Angle, WWE - Though I would have preferred one long reign, Haas and Benjamin were one of the brightest spots for WWE this year, going from 2 random guys dressed like Kurt Angle to Superstars in a few months. Show of the mid-year -1st Anniversary Show, RoH - The TNA shows had good matches, but also had a lot of boring crap. the only really GREAT match at WM XVIII was Michaels-Jericho and ROH had Dragon/Joe and the 3 way so it wins. Worst wrestler of the mid-year -Sandman, TNA - I have NO idea what this guy's appeal is. I don't think I've ever actually enjoyed a Sandman match, while I have enjoyed Xavier and Albert matches in the past. Horrible garbage wrestler. Nastiest spot of the mid-year -Brock Lesnar jams neck at WM X8, WWE - SCARY. Move of the mid-year -AJ Styles' Styles Clash '03 - The flipping DDT is cool, but too contrived. London has a nice SSP, but the Styles' Clash deathkill was brutal, hopefully he doesn't too it too often, but its dam cool. Feud of the mid-year -Raven vs Jeff Jarrett, TNA - The weird "buddy-buddy" stuff DQ's Brock vs Angle, and while CM Punk- Raven was (is) all kinds of awesome and the best classic fued going, Raven/JJ brought a lot of publicity to TNA which is really good. Jr. Heavyweight of the mid-year -Paul London - Amazing Red is too spotty to be the best and Noble's chances to prove how good he is have been criminally few. Mysterio has brought interest to the cruisers in WWE, but the bulk of that was in the last part of '02. London made a huge impact on the indys this year, and it showed with a WWE deal. Just good oldfashioned ass kicking with some new fangled highspots and a perfectly laid out blow off to a great feud. Tag team of the mid-year America's Most Wanted Wrestler of the mid-year AJ Styles Champion of the mid-year -Jeff Jarrett, TNA. Yeah he held it a month or so too long...but he made the title matches a big event on a show without big events. Tag Champions of the mid-year -Team Angle, WWE Show of the mid-year -NWATNA 6/25/03, TNA. Two GREAT matches. I can't say that about any other show since I haven't seen any 2003 ROH yet. He has improved a lot and I'd take him any day over Kane, Kevin Nash, Jamal, Rosey, Rodney Mack, Big Show, Undertaker or Nathan Jones. I'm betting nobody has voted New Jack worst yet because they are afraid he will hunt them down and kill them. Xavier doesn't belong anywhere near a "worst of" list. This match ruled. Made me remember why I loved Benoit and Angle. Tag team of the mid-year -Team Angle. They've really improved and have really come out of their own. Wrestler of the mid-year None of the above. But if I had to pick one, Kurt Angle even though he's been out for a period of the mid-year. Tag team of the mid-year Triple X Wrestler of the mid-year Paul London, from the Super 8, to one awesome match after another, to gaining a "name" with TNA to getting a WWE contract, it's been a hell of a six months for London. Champion of the mid-year Samoa Joe - ROH Tag Champions of the mid-year Team Angle/TBDTTP/TWGTT Show of the mid-year WMXIX, mainly because I fucking hated the riot at ROH. Worst wrestler of the mid-year Sandman, because I've only seen PJ once. I'd love to vote for A-Train, but I can't in good conscience go past Sandman. Nastiest spot of the mid-year Lesnar. Move of the mid-year London's SSP. Feud of the mid-year Raven vs CM Punk, ROH. It would have been Raven-Jarrett had Raven won the belt. Jr. Heavyweight of the mid-year Paul London, no doubt.
