Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 the one thing I hate about Mainstream awards. R&B, Hip-Hop, and Rap get all seperate awards, yet Rock is all clumped together even though there should be a metal, punk, and rock award.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 25, 2003 No there shouldn't. Mainstream rock is deader than the mosquitoes at the very bottom of the zapper. They should keep it clumped together to minimize the genre's shame.

Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 mark romanek did "hurt"? how appropriate. and when did they start giving out awards for cinematography? who votes on those awards? members of the official academy of music video directors of photography? I think these awards are for bands/artists that 15 year olds don't know who they are ie Radiohead, Johnny Cash
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 25, 2003 The Cash video is the only one I care for for video of the year. "Without Me" was a joke last year when it won. Hope they make up for it this year. Although I thought "Hurt" might be up for MTV2 vid of the year, since that's where it got its most play. And "St Anger" shouldn't be up for anything. Awful song, awful video. rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Hopefully AFI and Cash will come away with something. They're the only standouts on that list for me. What was the last QOTSA video? "Go with the flow", or something? That should be up for something: it's the pinacle of a video adding so much to a drab song. Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted July 25, 2003 I'd like to see AFI win the MTV2 award for personal reasons, and of course, the man in black showing all the young whippersnappers how its done and taking the video of the year.
Guest Ingram Paladin Report post Posted July 25, 2003 I weep with excitement to see Johnny Cash winning a major MTV award. He is more bad ass than any of the new generation stars combined.

Guest Miss Independant Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Video Of The Year 50 Cent, "In Da Club" Eminem, "Lose Yourself" Johnny Cash, "Hurt" Justin Timberlake, "Cry Me a River" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Work It" --- "Hurt" definitely deserves it, but I have a sick feeling 50 is going to sweep the awards. Best Male Video 50 Cent, "In Da Club" Eminem, "Lose Yourself" John Mayer, "Your Body is a Wonderland" Johnny Cash, "Hurt" Justin Timberlake, "Cry Me a River" --- Anyone of these is a toss up, but I don't see how Mayer's video can be in this group. Great song, but the video was... less than inspired. Best Female Video Avril Lavigne, "I'm With You" Beyonce f/ Jay-Z, "Crazy in Love" Christina Aguilera, "Dirrty" Jennifer Lopez, "I'm Glad" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Work It" --- Dave Meyers blows, all of his videos look the same, each equally overdone and fake. "Crazy in Love" is a pretty good song, but Jesus, it does NOT deserve as many nominations as it seems to have gotten. I'm also wondering why they picked "Dirrty" over "Beautiful". I really don't understand how "Beautiful" got ignored. Missy will probably take it. Ugh. Best New Artist In A Video 50 Cent, "In Da Club" All-American Rejects, "Swing, Swing" Evanescence f/ Paul McCoy, "Bring Me to Life" Kelly Clarkson, "Miss Independent" Sean Paul, "Get Busy" Simple Plan, "Addicted" --- 50. Evanescence is great, Sean Paul too, but there's no way 50 isn't getting this one. Breakthrough Video Coldplay, "The Scientist" Floetry, "Floetic" Kenna, "Freetime" Queens of the Stone Age, "No One Knows" Sum 41, "The Hell Song" --- "There There" should really be here (ha). Good group though, but Kenna never gets any love. Either Sum 41 or hmm... Coldplay. Hard call. Best Group Video B2K f/ P. Diddy, "Bump, Bump, Bump" Coldplay, "The Scientist" Good Charlotte, "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" The Donnas, "Take It Off" The White Stripes, "Seven Nation Army" --- Either they'll go the artsy way with "Seven Nation Army" as they have a tendancy to do, or the vapid way with "Bump Bump Bump". Best Rap Video 2 Pac f/ Nas, "Thugz Mansion" 50 Cent, "In Da Club" Eminem, "Lose Yourself" Ludacris f/ Mystikal, "Move B***h" Nas, "I Can" --- 50, again. Maybe Em, but I doubt it. Best R&B Video Aaliyah, "Miss You" Ashanti, "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby)" Beyonce f/ Jay-Z, "Crazy in Love" Nelly f/ Kelly Rowland, "Dilemma" R. Kelly, "Ignition Remix" --- If the peodophile wins, Imma be pissed. But if he does happen to, I hope he gets booed off the stage. Anyway, it'll probably be "Crazy in Love". Best Hip-Hop Video Busta Rhymes f/ Mariah Carey, "I Know What You Want" Jay-Z f/ Beyonce, "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Work It" Nelly, "Hot in Herre" Snoop Dogg f/ Pharrell & Uncle Charlie Wilson, "Beautiful" --- "Hot in Herre" was pretty darned catchy. I don't really care about much else in this group. Best Dance Video Christina Aguilera, "Dirrty" Jennifer Lopez, "I'm Glad" Justin Timberlake, "Rock Your Body" Mya, "Your Love Is Like...Wo" Sean Paul, "Get Busy" --- "I'm Glad". Too much ass to deny. Best Rock Video Evanescence f/ Paul McCoy, "Bring Me to Life" Good Charlotte, "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" Linkin Park, "Somewhere I Belong" Metallica, "St. Anger" The White Stripes, "Seven Nation Army" --- "Faint" was much better than "Somewhere I Belong", but I guess it's too close to the wire. Umm... White Stripes, though I'd like Evanescence to win. Best Pop Video Avril Lavigne, "Sk8er Boi" Christina Aguilera, "Dirrty" Justin Timberlake, "Cry Me a River" Kelly Clarkson, "Miss Independent" No Doubt, "Underneath It All" --- Eh, don't care. Probably "Underneath It All". Best Video From A Film Britney Spears f/ Pharrell of N.E.R.D., "Boys (Co-Ed Remix)" ("Austin Powers in Goldmember") Eminem, "Lose Yourself" ("8 Mile") JC Chasez, "Blowing Me Up (With Her Love)" ("Drumline") Madonna, "Die Another Day" ("Die Another Day") --- "Lose Yourself" probably, but Madonna's was a very good video. Best Direction In A Video Coldplay (Director: Jamie Thraves), "The Scientist" Johnny Cash (Director: Mark Romanek), "Hurt" Justin Timberlake (Director: Francis Lawrence), "Cry Me a River" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott (Director: Dave Meyers/Missy Elliott), "Work It" Sum 41 (Director: Marc Klasfeld), "The Hell Song" --- Very hard call, well, besides "Work It". "Hurt" will probably take it, but "The Scientist" and "Hell Song" were wonderful also. Best Choreography In A Video Beyonce f/ Jay-Z, "Crazy in Love" Christina Aguilera, "Dirrty" Jennifer Lopez, "I'm Glad" Justin Timberlake, "Rock Your Body" Mya, "Your Love Is Like...Wo" --- J-Lo. Again the ass. Best Special Effects In A Video Floetry, "Floetic" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Work It" Queens of the Stone Age, "Go With the Flow" Radiohead, "There There" The White Stripes, "Seven Nation Army" --- "There There" should have it. "Work It" will win, but Radiohead deserves it. Best Art Direction In A Video Jennifer Lopez, "I'm Glad" Johnny Cash, "Hurt" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Work It" Queens of the Stone Age, "Go With the Flow" Radiohead, "There There" --- How the FUCK is "I'm Glad" able to be in this category??? It's a carbon copy of Flash Dance, how is that different or artistic, it's been done before! Anyway, Cash with this one. Best Editing In A Video Johnny Cash, "Hurt" Kenna, "Freetime" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Work It" Radiohead, "There There" The White Stripes, "Seven Nation Army" --- White Stripes for sure. Best Cinematography In A Video Johnny Cash, "Hurt" Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, "Work It" No Doubt, "Underneath It All" Radiohead, "There There" --- "Hurt" though "Underneath It All" was very well shot. MTV2 Award AFI, "Girl's Not Grey" Common f/ Mary J. Blige, "Come Close" Interpol, "PDA" Queens of the Stone Age, "No One Knows" The Roots f/ Cody Chesnutt, "The Seed 2.0" --- The Roots would be great, but as many times as they played "No One Knows", it's kindof tellegraphed. Viewer's Choice 50 Cent, "In Da Club" Beyonce f/ Jay-Z, "Crazy in Love" Eminem, "Lose Yourself" Good Charlotte, "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" Justin Timberlake, "Cry Me a River" Kelly Clarkson, "Miss Independent" -- 50. Of course, the usual uninspired selections of about the same 5 songs in every category. They probably just threw Cash in there to shut people up about all the pop, but the airplay that "Hurt" received was pretty minimal if downright non-existant on MTV. If they're going that way, there are a few good country videos (very few mind you) that could be eligable also. Oh well. I'm a bit upset that Christina's "Beautiful" was so slighted. One of the few videos out that has some real depth. Such is life. Such is MTV.
