Your favorite Guitarists

Guest Thunder Rising!!!

It has been some time i have came across a thread like this before, so i will start one here because the discussions will always be interesting. I don't frequent the music folder so i hope a similar thread has not been done for some time.

I appreciate any great guitarists like Clapton, Hendrix etc. but my personal faves would be Gary Moore, Slash and Richie Sambora

Name some of your faves here and feel free to explain why you prefer them though i am too lazy to do so. I hope this thread does not turn out into a childish quarrell of which of them suck ass or anything like that.

As far as Idolization goes, Being a bass player, I naturally gravitate more towards them. I try to model my style after Claypool meets Geezer meets John Entwhistle..only heavier. I dabble in guitar though, even if I'm abominable on the instrument..strings are too little..

Like AoO, I play bass as well. My Idolization is between John Entwhistle, Steve Harris and Mike Inez.

Oh and I like Jason Newsted as well.

He's an adequete bass player, but when he was in Metallica he's kinda behind everybody not saying somethin, unless its important. It kinda fits my personality though.

And I prefer Jason over Cliff anyways

My favourites:

Pete Townshend

Jimi Hendrix

Tom Verlaine

Robert Fripp

Ry Cooder

David Gilmour

Phil Manzanera

I play guitar myself (I'm not particularly good, but anyway), and Townshend is the one I look up to the most and he's probably the biggest influence on my playing.

Top three favorite guitarists:

Angus Young

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Trey Anastacio

Not necessarily in that order, they play such varied styles of guitar it'd be hard to rank them 1,2,3

Zakk Wylde

Dave Mustaine

John Petrucci

The boys from Shadows Fall (I forget their names right now)

Rich Ward

That is all.

As for influences...

Kerry King and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein are my primary guitar influences. So it's old-school pure fucking thrash metal meets melodic horror-based punk.

Doyle's a cool guitarist, but some of Bobby Steele's early stuff with the Misfits is a little better than Doyle. But Doyle is overall much more cooler, and I really like the guitars of the Newfits albums a little better.

I'm going to try to pick some guitarists that aren't mentioned here...

-Edge

-Buckethead

-Joey Ramone (as minimalistic as you can get B-) )

-Tom Morello

- Michael Amott (Arch Enemy/Spiritual Beggars) - its guitarists like him that make Sweden rock the world.

Now that I think about it...it's a shame that so many of the early Misfits stuff was rerecorded/reedited/overdubbed by Danzig. Most of the guitars/bass on all their CD's have been rerecorded by him and Eerie Von.

Bonnie Raitt

I do not understand what people see in her as a guitarist..she picks slow country and slide guitar, and doesn't do it better than anyone else.

As far as country guitarists go, my favorite is easily Junior Brown.

Well, most of the ones I like have already been mentioned except for one.

Al Di Meola. I think he was shredding before anyone even knew what shredding was.

I find inspiration in a lot of guitarists for many different aspects of my playing. Too bad I still suck. haha

the fastest guitar player alive, shredding at 16 notes a second.

and for slide guitarists, no one was better than Duane Allman

16 notes per second??

That's fucking sick. That's almost a thousand notes per minute.

Jimmy Page isn't even close to being the most overrated guitarist ever. That title belongs to Eddie Van Halen, a man who's only virtue is that he can play really fast. His playing has no soul, life, or death. It just sounds like a screaming, brainless fish.
