Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Last time Eddie and Benoit faced off on PPV they worked a slow paced mat wrestling match which killed the crowd. That was at Armageddon in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and the crowd was indeed rude. However, slow paced mat wrestling proved to be the best thing at the Royal Rumble the following month because of Angle/Benoit/ BTW, where is the PPV tonight? Denver, CO. I believe this is the first time a WWE event / PPV has ever happened in that city.
Guest Insane Bump Machine Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Angle/Benoit at RR wasn't slow-paced.

Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 27, 2003 About Eddy vs. Benoit: Plus Armageddon seemed to be an off night for them. They've wrestled before and meshed very well other times, so it wasn't just that they don't work well together. Hopefully tonight will make up for that match. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 The irony that Benoit & Guerrero were a tag team at Vengeance last year. Smackdown Moment of the Week: Eddie Guerrero: Chris Benoit is my best friend! Chris Benoit: Eddie, you haven't called me in months!
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 since it's The big PPV for the title...What dastardly yet comical thing will eddy do to cheat?
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I'm actually looking foward to Tazz and Cole's commentary tonight. Those two have really been on a roll for a while now. There is at least 4 matches that should be good tonight. This is their chance to shine and show up JR/King. If they suck and are acting different from Smacdown then we'll know JR was in their ears all night.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 If Cole blurts "Bah Gawd My ass is on faryre" we know what's up.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Eddy will try to cheat, but I think it'll backfire.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted July 27, 2003 DH- I can see it happening, like the old "swing the chair, chair bounces off the ropes and hits you in the face" spot or something like that. I think they should put Benoit over tonight (because a heel shouldn't win a new title) then do Eddy vs Benoit for 2/3 falls at SummerSlam and Eddy goes over clean and Benoit moves onto a feud w/ Lesnar or Angle. People who have been all up on Eddy's jock lately need to remember that this isn't California, it's Denver. Eddy is a pro and he'll be working his ass off tonight to make the crowd hate him, which I don't doubt he'll do. I'm interested to see how Benoit plays off Eddy's heel heat, as Chris as never exactly been one to use traditional face tactics to win the crowd over. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 That whole California thing was just Cole and Tazz making excuses. Eddie's gotten cheered every night since he turned heel. Then when you combine that with the fact that PPV crowds are notoriously for cheering heels, and the fact that people will pick up on Eddie as the anti-hero after Smackdown last week, and he's definitely going to be the face at Vengeance. If you want a face champion, then you better give the belt to Eddie. I say Eddie cheats to win tonight, and then beats Benoit clean in a ladder match at Summerslam. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Has the crowd boo'd Eddie? No. Has the crowd cheered Eddie? Yes. EDDIE IS NOT A HEEL!
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Eddie is an anti-hero. He's a heel that gets cheered. See Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 27, 2003 The problem is, WWE wants Eddy to be heel, they continue to book him like a heel, but he still gets cheered. The problem is, they pushed him and Chavo as the "Cheat 2 Win" faces that act like heels, so when he turn "heel" and acts even more cool, funny, and dickheaded, OF COURSE HE IS GOING TO GET CHEERED!! Tajiri wasn't an extremely over face prior to joining Eddy (because of being depushed prior to that), so Eddy turning on him didn't have the desired effect. So, will WWE a) face the fact that Eddy is a face despite how they try to make him the heel, or b) keep booking him as a heel, stubbornly?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I believe the first line in your sig answers that question. "Heels who get cheered" are FACES. See Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Heel who gets cheered is still a heel. You don't see Chris Benoit, currently a face at the moment, using foreign objects and heelish tactics to win his matches.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I agree with Rudo. The fans decide who is face or heel. To some extent bookers can control who is viewed this way, but the fans make the final decision. As for why most faces don't cheat--remember..."shades of gray."
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 But if heelish tactics get cheers, when the crowd is chanting for you to "cheat", then wouldn't that be... face tactics? RRR: Thinking people need to "expand their mind". Heels = boos Faces = cheers
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Also, remember that Rock plays face or heel depending on the crowd, even if the WWE books him as a face. Hence why he was playing heel vs. Hogan and Brock and a face vs. Goldberg. It's why RVD had to be booked as a face or a tweener during the Alliance. It's why Brock began being booked as a face. It's why Bret Hart was a "heel" in America and a face in every other country during the USA vs. Canada angle.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 People cheer Eddie because they KNOW he's going to cheat, they expect it. Its his character since he's been a heel most of his career. Basically, Eddie's character hasn't changed at all since he came back last year with the exception that the crowd loves him now when he does the SAME old song and dance so to say. I'll use an example. Soctt Steiner was a face at both the RR and NWO, yeah he got booed, but that doesn't automatically make him a heel. Are you trying to say that Benoit is a heel, even though he isn't. because Eddie is a "face" and "gets loved more"?

Basically, Eddie's character hasn't changed at all since he came back last year with the exception that the crowd loves him now when he does the SAME old song and dance so to say. Think of it this way... Faces give the fans what they want. Heels don't. If the fans want Eddie to cheat, and Eddie cheats, and the fans cheer, he's a face. If the fans want Eddie to cheat, and Eddie _doesn't_ cheat, then he's a heel. Because the fans will boo that. I'll use an example. Soctt Steiner was a face at both the RR and NWO, yeah he got booed, but that doesn't automatically make him a heel. Isolated incidences. Had Steiner been continuously boo'd for weeks, as Eddie has been continously cheered for weeks/months, then yes, he would be a heel. Are you trying to say that Benoit is a heel, even though he isn't. because Eddie is a "face" and "gets loved more"? Benoit still got cheers, he still gets cheers (dispite being BURIED for the past few months, which is a testiment to Benoit's hard work) so I don't see how he's a heel. Benoit vs. Eddie right now is a face vs. face match.
