EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I have not seen somebody this popular in the WWE in quite sometime. Rocky's return back in June of 2002 is the only thing recently that has come close. He's got a great moveset. The fans are supposed to hate him, but every heel mannerism he does is cheered by the fans. I have not thoroughly enjoyed a character from WWE land in quite some time. And he's gone through so much shit. The rehab, the up and down pushes... Eddy Guerrero is on the roll of a lifetime, and I'm damn fuckin proud to be a wrestling fan knowing that no matter what happens the rest of the show, I get to see him on my television screen. Add on top of that the chance that he might be wearing the WWE championship sometime soon, and you and I both know that we might be looking at happy times soon enough, no matter how small the time period is... Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 What exactly is it that made this SUDDEN jesus like attitude for the guy? I mean he seems the same...only difference is the smirk he makes when he cheats and the entereance with the lo ryder.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Eddie is the Anti-Hero for a new generation. Once the fans "got" Cheat to Win they LOVED it.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Eddie is God, but then he always has been.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Yeah but the marks always viewed him as a Comedy character at best but all the sudden he is jesus.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Um, he was still drawing a mixed reaction against "Boring" Benoit in the hispanic heavy Fresno. While it was good to see face Benoit get booed, it wasn't like Eddie was getting Austin '98-'99 face pops. He got a lot of cheers, but he still got alot of boos. We'll see how it holds up outside of Fresno.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 It goes back to the first time he cheat to beat Team Angle. The crowd went NUTS. I have never seen anything like that out of a WWE crowd since Foley fell off the cell.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Where were they the week they had to MASSIVELY edit out the eddy chants? The one when he turned
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 The crowd in Fresno WANTED to cheer Eddie (you know, that loud Eddie chant), but the WWE had him heeling it up. Of course, Vince will look at this and say "it was the low-rider and those vignettes with Chavo that did it".
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I think the Low Rider has SOME part of it but isn't really the ESSANCE of his character's overness but it certaintly adds too it
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 The low-rider brings him attention, but if he still had the C2W gimmick the crowd would still love it as much. It's something different, it's something new... again, he's the modern day anti-hero.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Interesting as they have TWO fresh Over Heels but can't make a new Face to save their lives...(Cena and Eddy) Angle doesn't count.

I have never seen anything like that out of a WWE crowd since Foley fell off the cell. Um, yeah, that's most likely because Eddie was a face and Team Angle were getting massively over as heels at the time.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Interesting as they have TWO fresh Over Heels but can't make a new Face to save their lives...(Cena and Eddy) Angle doesn't count. Cena would suck as a face, remember Road Dogg? Cena's character is a wigger. They aren't well liked people. They are despised universally. So why would the fans get behind a wigger character? He would be turned into a joke like Hurricane, another gimmick that worked TEN TIMES BETTER as a heel. As for Eddie, his promo style would change if he were booked as a face. Also, matches would be harder to plan out and the heels would lose heat because they'd be constantly outsmarted. You have to think of little things like that. There are other factors besides crowd reaction.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Yeah but Eddy was cheating and that STARTED the entire boom... The fact that a fucking FACE blatantly cheated and got away with it was the ice breaker that set this chain reaction off...

I was saying they made two heels so over they have become de-facto faces when they can't create a Face on their own efforts.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Yeah but Eddy was cheating and that STARTED the entire boom... The fact that a fucking FACE blatantly cheated and got away with it was the ice breaker that set this chain reaction off... Actually, the whole thing started long before the Team Angle match. When Chavo and Eddie were heels, they cheated just as often as Eddie does now and did when he was a face. Eddie's character has basically been the same for the past year almost, including the few months after he was turned face by John Cena's superheel promo. The only difference now is that the cheating has become a focal point of his character as in it is so clever. However, it suits him as a heel. As a face, the cleverness would be detrimental as cheating is one of the few tactics a heel has at his disposal. If you have a guy like Eddie outsmarting super heels like Benjamin and Haas, and John Cena, they lose heat, or have to be booked like HHH and get clean win after clean win to keep their heat. Austin, Rock, and HHH to a lesser extent all come from being so over as heels that they were eventually cheered.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Well yes...and throw the more recent Lesnar onto that list... Has WWE debuted a Face and KEPT him a face and made it work in the last few years? Can't think of one... Jericho was mega heel when he came in but turned...
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Jericho only got heel heat when he used cheap heat promo tactics and ambushes. Other than that he was basically cheered. On a side note, Jericho has been a heel for almost TWO YEARS, and I've yet to see the 1998 WCW Jericho everyone was raving about.

Adam 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Ive always thought Eddie was a great wrestler, and he could make a great character. I think he will win the US Title at Vengeance.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted July 27, 2003 I've liked Eddie for a long time actually, but I never seriously thought he would ever get a truly big push. It's funny that someone would mention the stuff with Chavo, because yes I do think it's been a part of him getting over. Longtime viewers remember him tormenting and badmouthing Chavo, so it was good to see him finally getting along with Chavo yet doing it on HIS terms (i.e. getting Chavo to believe in Cheat To Win). I also think Eddie has a lot of traits people relate to: --He does whatever he has to to win a match, but is actually upfront about his cheating. So in other words he is honest about lying. --He is quite close to his family. I started really being amused by Eddie on the PPV where he reeled off his whole family's names and "Little Timmy, the kid we picked up off the street." How can you hate a guy who trains his nephew, defends his grandma when someone badmouths her, etc? Eddie and Cena are two of the most over guys on SMDN because they seem like guys that everyone knows. Most people know a really annoying wigger kid who talks a lot of smack. Ditto a seedy Mexican who is ultra worried about his car and gets pissed easy.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 27, 2003 You know, Eddie never got this push going until Placido Polanco started using Latino Heat when he walks to the plate. Placido Polanco = Title Push

Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 27, 2003 Um, yeah, that's most likely because Eddie was a face and Team Angle were getting massively over as heels at the time. "Massively over" ? Exaggeration much? The crowd _jumped out of their seats_ when Eddie hit the ref with a chair, threw it to Haas, and the ref Dq'd Team Angle. People were throwing their hands up and pounding their fists. This was no mere Face/Heel Dynamic, this was something that blew the crowds' mind. This should be treated like Austin, have Eddie go against cookie cutter faces and cheat. He can do the same with heels, it doesn't matter, but he should not compromise his cheating.
