Guest William E Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Is it just those seven or were the questioner asking for GREATEST promoer? Because the fact... Flair Roberts Savage Dibiase Piper are off that list is JUST WRONG. It's just asking out of those 7. It's not to determine the best ever. I'll give the nod to Mick Exactly, BTW I'm suprised Mick got so much votes.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I almost gave it to Austin...but Mick could scare you, make you feel sorry for him, and make you laugh all in the same interview
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley. By quite a bit too.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley, but Austin cut some real money promos.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Austin was the best at making the crowd his bitch. Rock is great at entertaining. Flair was the best at getting the importance or seriousness of an angle/feud over...as well as crafting his image. Foley was great at all 3.

But if I had to chose one, I couldn't. It would be a two way tie between Rock and Flair.
Guest IV:XX Report post Posted July 31, 2003 The Rock. Nobody can work a mic like him.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 First off, the people who should be on that list, but aren't Jake Roberts-Never in my life have I been more afraid as a child than when that man speaks. I didn't care what he said. It was that he could say something like "The Happiest Place on Earth" and turn it into something so absolutely scary that I wouldn't go to sleep that night. THAT, is a great promo. Ric Flair-"Kiss stealing, wheelin dealin, jet flyin, limousine ridin, son of a gun..." I say no more... Now, on that list? It's Foley, because no matter how funny Rocky is, it comes down to how the man says what he's got to say, and when Foley had somethign to say, he did it just right. Watch how he put over Orton on RAW a couple of weeks ago. And then how he made the funny promos with Edge and Christian and such...just amazing work from a guy who's been hit in the head with a chair about 5000 times in his life. Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Ah yes, I totally forgot Jake Roberts. That man had the best promos ever. The intensity, the evilness, the analogies, everything was just the best. I get chills down my spine whenever I listen to a Jake promo.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I think Kurt Angle's underrated by a lot of people. He's moved way past that dork persona and he's become very versatile in his promo skills. I'd say he's tops in the business today, with Austin a very close second. At his peak though, Rock was better than any of them. When he was focused, he could get absolutely unparalleled reactions. The other person on the list who can cut really good promos when he's focused is HBK. If you remember the video interview before Summerslam when he revealed that Hunter had run him over, that was just awesome. That promo actually gave me goosebumps up and down my whole body. Adam 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 I'm going to say, hands down, Foley. Serious or silly, Foley can do it all.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Out of the list.......Foley But the greatest mic worker of all time is definately "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair
Guest Nater Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Wondering why Dibiase, Flair, Jericho and Flair were left off. Jake the Snake, also great but not totally consistant in quality. Jericho and Flair being more of the total package.
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Reading this thread so far has had me swing my vote back and forth between Foley and Rock about three times.. In the end though, as entertaining as Rock can be, jokes about pie get old. Whoenver mentioned the Foley cut on Orton the other night (too lazy to scroll up) hit the nail on the head really. That was one of the better promos that I have seen in a few months - really put the guy over IMO.. so in conclusion: Foley, with Rock and a close second. Guest notJames Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley, hands down. Flair and Roberts would be 2 and 3 respectively, if they were on the list. The others just aren't as versatile as these three, especially Rock and Austin, who depend on the same gimmicks and catchphrases a little too much.
Guest Space_Cowboy Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley. The others on the list are good in their roles, while Foley just has a far greater range of what he can do. Serious, comedy and everything in between, he was great no matter what he was doing.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley. HBK & Hart have no business being on that list.
Guest Goose749 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Angle -- Good promos, but always sounds like a dork. His promo work is strictly midcard material. He is able to sound intense and serious in video package but never was able to put that across well in front of a crowd, except for repeating how he won his medals with a broken neck. I dunno. I liked the bit when he confronted Team Angle. "You know why those people chant 'You Suck' everytime I enter? I EARNED THOSE!!!" talk about great writing Yeah, Foley. Guest notJames Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley. HBK & Hart have no business being on that list. Agreed, especially HBK. I still remember his "why I joined the nWo" speech where the guy in the audience yelled "Get to the point!" Talk about long-winded…
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley. HBK & Hart have no business being on that list. You're right, Hart has no business being on that list. But HBK, back in the days of when he was a heel, could cut an awesome promo. Granted, his face work isn't very good, but his heel mic work is great.
Guest MideonMark Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Add me to the Mick Foley list. In my opinion Foley is not only the best mic worker on that list, but the greatest of all time. Flair is the closest to him, but Foley is as good as Flair in the emotional, getting an angle/feud over promos, he can do the bitter, angry, crazy ECW Cactus Jack promos(e.g. 'Don't shed a tear for me') and Foley can do comedy promos better than anybody in the history of wrestling. So yeah definately Foley and I'd venture to say that there will never be anyone as good as Foley on the mic in my opinion.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Foley. HBK & Hart have no business being on that list. Exactamundo! Savage was an underrated mic worker. He's not a top 5, but still a decent interview.
Guest notJames Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Even in the movies, Savage gives a better promo than HBK. Witness his stunning performance in Spider-Man: "Bone-saw is rea-dy!!! Hey, Freakshow! I've got you for threeeeeee minutes… three minutes of play-time!!!" Classic.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 31, 2003 Add me to the list of those who chose Foley. The fact that he can conduct normal interviews in the "real world" while hyping his book shows how thorough his speaking ability is.

I hate to break the news to you, but Angle is still a dumbass. The head bobbing, the pitch in his voice, the retarded look on his face all add up to a guy who couldn't cut a serious promo if his life depended on it. Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 31, 2003 LOTC brought the goods here. Angle can cut a goofy character promo well. However, I challenge any of you to find me a serious, money drawing promo that Angle has executed. Hell, even HHH has one or two under his belt. That's not saying that WWE has really given Angle that oppurtunity, but I have yet to see Angle deliver even one ticket selling promo.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 31, 2003 To whomever called for Piper's inclusion, I should point out that his interviews were only good when he was on a healthy assortment of mind-bending drugs. Foley, then Austin. Had Roberts stayed on track for longer than he did, he'd be WAY up there but he only ever scratched the surface of his interview potential IMO.
