A pretty damn good movie...

eh, pretty good. didn't deserve half the buzz it got, and it certainly didn't deserve 2 oscars.

It DID have the best song that year though...

And the writing was pretty solid for a couple 20 year olds but how hard is it to write down what was pretty much a lifestory...

Let's see Ben and Matt write A broadway play about Horses or something

the writing was hammy and cliched. it had some good monologues, but the whole script was basically a contrivance to get those good monologues in. i've written more original.

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan either... but Affleck was the bomb in "Phantoms."

Here is a Question

Matt Damon Vs Ben Affleck...

If you were casting a Hollywood Movie...Whose your leading man between these two..

I'm hoping to go to Berkeley or UCLA. Right now I have a 4.27, but GREs are still left to be taken.

what is that on a traditional 4 point scale?

Hmm good question. If you do 4.27/4.33 = 0.986 (basically % of maximum 100%) then multiply by 4 you get 3.94. I don't know if there's a more correct way to make the translation.

depends on the movie. affleck's got more natural charisma & makes a better "leading man," but damon's a better actor.

Me?

I'd Take Damon.

He can do the Comedy (The Kevin Smith Movies showed this and so did Ocean's 11)...

He can do Blockbuster Action (Bourne Identity)...

Dramas (GWH)...Thrillers (Talented Mr. Ripley)...

And Ben is so fucking hit and miss...

Has Damon ever SUCKED hard like Affleck did in Pearl Harbor or Reindeer Games or Gigli?

However...I liked Affleck in Armageddeon, GWH, The SMith Movies, Changing Lanes...

He has *SOME* chops but he chooses to do the hollywood blockbusters too much

speaking of acting, does anybody else feel like the female acting talent today is on the whole much better than the male acting talent?

Exactly, I can't.

So how about that Colin Farrell...

Why doesn't Matt have "Leading Role" response to him even though aside from his small roles before GWH...That's all he has done (Kevin Smith movies excluded)...

Affleck has always been a better Supporting Actor when he has a Damon, Jackson, or Willis to play off...

Yet..Damon carried movies all by himself before...

A hunter once caught a bird in a trap. "Let me go," the bird pleaded. "It won't do you any good to kill me - I'm not that very big. If you roast me, all you'll get is a mouthful or two at the most. And if you lock me in a cage, I can promise you right now that I'll never sing a note for you. But if you let me go, I'll give you three pieces of wisdom which will bring you great happiness and success."

The hunter pondered over the bird's speech. "All right," he said "Tell me your three pieces of wisdom and I'll let you go."

"First," said the bird, "never believe a story that goes against common sense. Secondly, don't regret what is done and cannot be undone." Then, cocking his head to one side, the bird concluded, "And the third piece of wisdom is, don't try the impossible."

"There's nothing so wise about that," scoffed the hunter. "I practice those teachings all the time. But since you're not much use to me anyway, I'll let you go."

No sooner was the bird released, than he flew to a high branch of a nearby tree. "Foolish man!" he said "Did you think I was just an ordinary bird? Oh no! Now I can tell you that I am much different from other birds. My heart is made of a precious ruby. If you had cut me open and taken out my heart, you might have been the richest man in the world."

When the man heard this, he cursed his folly in letting the bird go. He shot his first at the bird in the tree. "I'll catch you, you rogue!" he cried in a rage of disappointment.

The hunter quickly started to climb the tree. But the bird flew to the tip of a high branch, well out of the man's reach. The hunter leaned far out, trying to lay his hands on the bird. But he lost his balance, fell out of the tree, and was badly hurt.

"So!" cried the bird. "You said there was nothing wise about my words - that what I told you is only what you always practice! But the first thing I told you was never to believe anything that was contrary to common sense. Did you ever hear of a bird whose heart was made of ruby? No. Yet you instantly believed my story.

"The next thing I said was don't regret what has been done and cannot be undone. You let me go - but then you instantly regretted it!

"The last piece of wisdom was, don't waste your energies pursuing the impossible. How could you ever hope to catch me, a bird who can fly - just by climbing a tree? Yet you persisted in your folly and tried to snare a winged bird with your bare hands."

The shaken hunter go to his feet... a bruised but wiser man.

I could see Matt Damon playing a superhero.

More like, I could see him as the supervillian. I can't really see him being good as a face. Just wouldn't seem right.

Personally...

I think DOGMA is crucially under rated and over looked.

People cream for Clerks too damn much...

It was cute in 1995 but the movie hasn't held up in my mind...

DOGMA is still good for a great time...

Another Under-Rated Movie lost in the Shuffle...

A yellow bird with a yellow bill was perched upon my window sill. So I lured him in with a piece of bread and then I crushed his fucking head. The moral of the story is you want some head, you need some bread.
