Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 Was Heath Shuler a bad pick, or someone who never got the chance to live up to his potential, because of injuries?

alfdogg 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2003 GS trading Parish and the pick that ended up being McHale for Joe Barry Carroll. Seattle trading Scottie Pippen for Olden Polynice. GS trading Mitch Richmond for Billy Owens. Milwaukee trading Dirk Nowitzki for Robert Traylor. Pacers trading Antonio Davis for Jonathon Bender. (It may look good down the road IF ISIAH WOULD FUCKING PLAY HIM A LITTLE) Rockets trading Jefferson and Collins for Eddie Griffin. Knicks trading Hilario for McDyess. (Face it, McDyess will never be the same again.) Those are all I could think of that haven't been said.
Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted August 12, 2003 Of the four, only one, Steve Karsay, ever ammounted to damn thing, and even on his best day he was merely mediocre, though he seems to be decent out of the Yankee bullpen today. I think he's the one who started out his career by breaking his arm. Twice. For starters, Karsay is out for the year. And unless Karsay did it too, I think you are thinking of the Astro's Billy Wagner. He broke his right arm, then after the cast came off broke it again, so he became a lefty. Good idea. Anyone remember the Mets' "Generation K" of the early/mid '90's? Paul Wilson, who is bouncing around, Bill Pulsipher, who is God knows where, and Jason Isringhaussen, who became a good closer for the A's & Cards.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 andre ware: detroit lions Lions and quarterbacks...they just can't pull it off. They only guy to lead them to some wins was Eric Kramer...and they keep benching him when Rodney Peete would come back from his hundreds of injuries.
Prime Time Andrew Doyle 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 (edited) In 1997, with Jake Plummer still available, the 49ers take Jim "Who?" Druckenmiller. Could you really call the 49ers passing up on Plummer that bad a move. Sure Druckenmiller sucked ass for the 49ers, they still had Young, and than Garcia took over from him. Say they had have taken Plummer and he took over from Young instead of Garcia, and he had the exact same run at the 49ers he had in Arizona, and left the 49ers. Sure Druckenmiller may not have had the impact the 49ers would have liked, it is no real goof seeing as though they are in a better situation having taken him, even though Druckenmiller did jack all really at SF. They have one of the better QBs in the NFL is Garcia, who may have never been in that position had Druckenmiller not been taken, rather than a hot and cold QB who has only ever thrown more TDs than INTs one season. Garcia, In 2 less seasons has thrown for 4 more TDs and half the INTs that Plummer did. Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 Carolina Panthers: Tim Biakabutuka. (sp?) The Panthers could have taken somebody else in that draft (I believe Eddie George was available) but they take the guy who proceeds to hold out from training camp, played 3 games his first season before getting injured, and didn't even play a full season with the team b/c of injuries. Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted August 12, 2003 In either '90 or '91, Boston traded for a veteran lefty out of the pen for a young fellow by the name of Jeff Bagwell. Though Mo Vaughn became a very good player for them, you can see now that it was not a good deal. Vaughn is probably going to retire due to injuries, and Baggs is padding his Hall of Fame calliber numbers with more years left in him. The Yankees traded Jay Buhner to Seattle for pretty much nothing. The Yankees almost traded Mariano Rivera in early 1996 for a veteran 2B they thought they needed. The Yankees were offered Mike Piazza from Florida for Jorge Posada, Ramiro Mendoza, and I believe Alfonso Soriano in 1998. Good thing they shot that one down. I'm not sure of this one, but I've heard that Barry Zito was originally a draft choice of the pitchingly handicapped Texas Rangers, and John Smoltz was picked by Detroit (About 12 years earlier, of course). And, in more Yankee news, I'm pretty sure the Yanks drafted Mark Prior but he decided to stay in college and didn't sign with them. So these aren't all exactly draft-related per se, but they do involve young players that became superstars.
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2003 John Smoltz was picked by Detroit (About 12 years earlier, of course Yeah. Interestingly enough, they traded him to Atlanta for Doyle Alexander. At the time, the move was absolute steal for the Tigers as Alexander went undefeated for the rest of the year, while Smoltz was a struggling pitcher in Double A, I believe.
