Triple H as world champ

Heels don't have to have crappy theme music. Jericho and Guerrero never changed their themes when they went heel.

Jericho did...

They remixed it.

HHH knows Motorhead gets him a pop...which is why he keeps it...to stroke his ego

Something that I really digged tonight in the Taker/Cena match was Taker's injury appearing out of nowhere. His ribs were fine, he was confident enough to do the superplex, he paid for it and reaggrevated the injury. I like stuff like that. Injuries can occur at any time in the ring in real life - the HHH quad tear proved it and therefore fans believe it - so why not have a guy pull a muscle running the ropes, or performing a move, THEN having a wrestler capitalize.

If Triple H wanted to keep getting a pop, he wouldn't have retooled his whole character, and switched to dress shirts and red tights. I know it all seems natural now, but at the time, it seemed like HHH had totally changed his persona to keep from getting cheered over the faces.

HHH isn't supposed to get pops because he's a heel. I find Booker T's matches to be consistently more boring than any other main event faces in the WWE. Even A-Train and The Big Show have had better matches than Booker T.

Talking to the wrong guy, then. Workrate isn't the world to me. Booker entertains me (as HHH probably does you), and I'll admit he isn't a workrate God, but he's not as terrible as you say. Point is, he was over when he was challening for the title, and the company could've put him over the top with a little more thought and better execution. Why have HHH go over clean at WM (which is about the stupidest outcome imaginable)?

I guess both our biases aren't doing us any favors in this argument.

I don't even think Kurt should set up the Ankle Lock. He should be able to end the match with it 10 seconds in if he gets it. There are moves like the figure four and the sharpshooter or boston crab that you can build on because they focus on a strong part of your body and therefore need to be broken down. The ankle, on the other hand, can be easily broken with the proper submission. Ditto with the elbow/arm.

I'm sure having Vince's permission to go over the entire roster and build whole programs around no one being in your league will do that to a guy.

I'm actually not that big on workrate either. I just find Booker T to be pretty much all around boring.

There's more reasons why he shouldn't have gone over. First, the HHH/Booker T match was the fourth most hyped match on the night which isn't the best environment to end a long, successful, heel title reign.

Also, there was nowhere for Booker to go if he did win the title. Jericho and HHH were the only viable heels on the show. After he'd finished his program with HHH, Booker's character wasn't really strong enough to justify keeping the belt.

The whole kliq is notorious for being "cool heels". HHH's persona has changed? He went from wearing that big demin jacket and leather cap to styling and profiling... By "persona" you mean "clothing", then yes, a change has been made...

Okay, let me get this straight: a submission move that targets the weak part of the body doens't need a buildup, thus is probably most effective? So if someone came up with a 'pinky lock', than they should win the match no problem, right? After all, the pinky is a very weak part of the body.

HHH went from being an angry blue collar badass to being a cocky, cowardly, white collar snob. He couldn't have had much more dramatic of a character change.

Same basic premise

"Im uh better then you uh"

There was no change...

He was always Cocky...

and he was a White Collar snob before... so it really wasn't an change it was just an return to the way he used to be.

Yeah, cause Booker vs. _____ (prob. Jericho had he beaten HBK) would have been MUCH worse than HHH vs. Nash... which we got for over 3 months (and really are still getting today)

Point taken. HHH/Nash was a huge mistake. At least HHH could stay over with some degree of inertia as the champion, however, while Booker would need a hot program as the new champ.

I would love to see Kurt target someone's ankle for most of a match and then do an Ankle Lock. There is a lot you could do with that.

ummm...

Step on it?

Pull it back?

I'm drawing a blank of Ankle related defense

Yep. But then again, small-joint manipulation (such as the pinky-breaker) is generally banned from all actual fighting competitions.

Though I'd be willing to bet that a broken arm or ankle sure as hell would hurt more than a broken finger (and certainly create more long-term damange - hence the reason why the person taps out is to be able to fight again).

And also, it would be easier for someone to get to the ropes if it was just their pinky being held.

My dream match is an Ironman match between Kurt and Brock where Brock keeps getting the pinfalls, taking a good lead, while all Kurt does is go after the ankle, until Brock has to tap multiple times toward the end of the match and loses.

Sounds like HHH in 99. How many months did it take for him to finally get over as a monster heel?

HHH had way better buildup in 1999 than Booker T did going into WM, and Austin had been the center of the promotion for twice as long as HHH had this year.

I know it's not the same thing, but Chavo Guerrero once submitted to a handshake.
