RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 I didn't lose any Pride admitting that. In fact, I gained some Pride. I think everyone could gain some Pride this week, say, on Sunday at 9 pm EST. On a completely unrelated subject... I loved Taker/Cena. Taker's mix of Old School and Mixed Martial Arts is perversely satisfying cause he does both pretty bad, but he works hard and I'm all abouts the soupbonez. Cena was just a punching bag here (and a good punching bag at that!), which is good, cause really, what else would he do?? I'm all about Tazz representin MMA. And everytime Taker is out there, it gets represented. Which means, more Taker = more Representin. I bet they take a lot of Pride in those matches...

Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 Cole: "Cena beat the Undertaker!" Tazz: "With help from the A-Train." That pretty much sums up the match. That *CAN'T* be the blow-off to their feud, can it?

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 Considering that a well performed Triangle Choke should make the opponent unconscious in about 15-20 seconds, I don't think that's indicative of an MMA fight... I guess the keyword in that is "well performed". Fighter who won't Tap Out + Fighter who won't let go = 1 Pass Out
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 The thing with the Taker/Cena match was that it didn't really need 20 minutes to accomplish what it did, they could have had A-Train run in before the commercial break and Cena win after that. Might have gotten another match in place of the 2nd half of the match. The pacing was slow and it would have been ok with a 10 minute match but 20 minutes of it at that pace was bad, especially when you consider the end of the match. And for some reason, I wanna compare it to HBK Jericho from RAW in the fact that the end of the match involving a run in to set up another fued kinda makes the point of having a 20 minute match seem pointless. If they are gonna make a habit of airing 20 minute matches on a regular basis, the least they could do is give em clean finishes instead of making it like every other 6 minute match they have that ends in a run in. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2003 This thread always dies a slow death, is it because so many stop to watch the Main Events, or so many TURN OFF the main events? I turned it off. No McMahons wrestling in my main events, thank you. And for that matter, no Big Shows or A-Trains.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted August 8, 2003 I was actually pleasantly suprised by The Undertaker-Cena match for a different reason. I just really got a whole rope-a-dope vibe out of it. Watching Undertaker go from just being dominant early to be winded after his own moves to be totally out of it by the end was just so impressive in my eyes. Just look how he hangs on Cena's shoulders on the FU. Taker isn't struggling or even gripping Cena by the shoulders. He's just limp, exhausted and it made perfect sense that the throw was enough to polish him off regardless of the run in.
