syxx2001 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 lol, But they still hyped Angle being there. Remember Unforgiven 2000 I think? Austin made a return on that PPV and it got a 1.50 buyrate with a Rock, Benoit, Kane and Undertaker main event.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 But that was Austins first match IIRC, Angle had already wrestled before that for free. Plus Austin is Austin for crying-out-loud.

{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 Neverending soda, do do do , Neverending soda. I think the combined buyrate and Smackdown rating would give Vince some clue that he is not wanted, but what do I know I'm making a hobbit hole in my backyard. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 Smackdown's major problem is that there isn't one person you can look at on the show and say "This guy is going to draw money." It seems like an entire show of guys who are good wrestlers but can't draw a dime, or haven't been given opportunities to draw. This PPV tanking is sad because there was a lot of good stuff on it, but the stuff they actually hyped was crap no one would buy (Vince/Zach, Steph/Sable, etc.). And when it comes down to it, Lesnar is someone I don't give two shits about. I don't care if he is a heel or a face, I just don't care about him. He's made no great impression either way. He reeks of someone the fans might cheer because he's getting a push, rather than someone the fans cheer because they actually like him and WANT him pushed. You're right, there isn't really anyone on there with *star* power which will get people watching, I don't give two shits about Brock either, I have always found him to be very boring. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 The thing about Lesnar is they went into hyperbooking with him. He's only been around a bit over a year and had two title reigns. AFAIK, they're playing it safe with John Cena. Too rookie to push to the top, will be hugely over at least with marks if they pull the trigger in the first half of next year. We all know that appealing to marks and casual fans is about 65% mic skill, 35% wrestling. Lesnar JUST CAN'T TALK and neither can these talentless sacks of shit they haul in on a regular basis. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I'm still blaming Hogan, Gowen wasn't even supposed to be in the match damn it!
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Vengeance, promoted mainly around Vince McMahon vs. Zach Gowan, drew what's expected to be a 0.42 buyrate, the lowest for the WWE since In Your House: It's Time, headlined by Psycho Sid vs. Bret Hart in late 1996. Bwah-hah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa!!!!! Oh, this is beautiful! Finally, Vince is starting to entertain me again. He's nearly as big a draw as Sid!
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 *looks at buyrate* Hmmm..are they going to blame RVD somehow? And yes, that whatever the hell that is in your sig kinda scares me, FBPR.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Vince won't accept the blame, niether will Steph, and the ME had some McMahon Golden Boys in it. Someone strange will be blamed. Somehow this is Jericho's fault. No, it's Gowen's fault. Well, it is Gowen's fault. God, thank you AS. Here was me thinking it was Vince and the booking team's fault for not building up the main event well and putting the emphasis on the Gowen match. . Gowen was the one who despite having most of he promotions hype machine and a top star push (presented as equal to Angle/Brock/Show/TWGTT) couldn't get enough people to care about him. And when about 45 minutes of the two hour show and half the PPV hype is centered on you, you sure as fuck better get more than a tepid ass reaction. That's why the Angle 2001 face reign is such a disaster. He failed to get the crowd behind him as top face. Blame the writers all you want, but at some point part of the responsibility falls on the wrestler himself. And Gowen failed. If the show was built the same way but more people cared about Gowen, the buyrate would be better. Ok...I'm safe in the knowledge you never/rarely watched NWA:TNA, so obviously you don't realise that Gowen can be booked well. When in TNA, he was pushed as another wrestler. No freak show act, no miracle of life. Basically, it worked because they didn't go over the top. TNA week 30 he faced BG James. A quote from Dames Diatribe... The crowd was really into the kid. Direct quote. That was because he had one dark match, and got a believable win because it wasn't clean. As far as booked as equal to those names you mentioned...they boobed. They tried to use the big guns to get him over quick. Basically, they went the wrong route. If they let him get over on his own morals, he would have done. History proves it. But they tried to use the big guns to get him over. A 'top-line feud' doesn't have to mean a 'good top-line feud'. I realise your point. He was over-pushed. The big pushes beside Hogan and then Angle/Lesnar killed him around here. And now no-one will hear a good word about him for fear of being ripped apart for liking 'the one legged push boy'. But you see, he wasn't pushed as equal. He got ONE WIN over Big Show, with an assist from Lesnar/Angle. How come a win over Taker by Cena, with A-Train assisting is the biggest cheap win ever...yet everyone tries to play down the interference from Angle and Lesnar in the handicap match? He has one ONE match out of FOUR, and that was with a DOUBLE assist. You wanted him busted down to the midcard where he belongs. He is in the midcard, and he is on a four match losing streak. They've de-pushed him now. He could have got over on his own morals. But when you push someone as a cripple, that's what you get. The blame can't be totally put on Gowen like you want...I'm pretty sure he didn't ask to be booked as a cripple fan who gets a contract by winning a handicap over a HV Title #1 Contender. Kardo 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 You want to know why this pay per view tanked. Think of the last feud you really wanted to see a match of and was built up with intensity. Really think hard. For me it was Rock/Jericho before No Mercy 2001.

Guest croweater Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Everyone said, there is no real draw on Smackdown! THe WWE has forced this apon themselves and obviously they have to make drastic changes. On RAW they've done the transformation of Kane and that seems to be getting ratings up. Why not do the same with taker? Taker had a huge cult fanbase when he was the phenom now, he's just another guy with a crappy gimmik and workrate. "The Real" Undertaker has legions of fans. Most of the semi fans from the late nineties and early zero's all thought the Undertaker was awesome but not so as the biker. Undertaker would draw, just not in his current state. Guest Coffey Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I know that I'm in the minority, but I think that the Undertaker's "biker" gimmick is at least twice as good as his "deadman" gimmick. The only thing I liked about the old Undertaker was how his entrance was always different on PPV's. The Undertaker now still doesn't "sell" too well, but it's just because he's a big, tough guy (kayfabe) whereas he used to almost be a zombie so he felt no pain. Hell, I loved Taker's last title run. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 18, 2003 But you see, he wasn't pushed as equal When they did Angle/Lesnar/Gowen vs. Show/TWGTT, and Gowen wasn't portrayed from the beginning as an obvious handicap for the faces, I took it to mean he was their equal. Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Lesnar is not a draw. Angle has never been that much of a draw b/c they book him as a big (and now gay) dork. Taker has always been a 3rd rate main eventer. Big Slow......no comment on that. Vince and Gowen....bwahhahahahaha. Nope i don't see no real draws, they need an RVD to spice up this show. Guest MissMattitude Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Nope i don't see no real draws, they need an RVD to spice up this show. What makes you think that RVD is a draw. To be honest, there aren't any draws at the moment. The Rock didn't bring in any ratings, Foley didn't either, Austin hasn't brought any in. Kane is probably the biggest draw within the company now which is slightly shocking.

We are talking about a guy that got over in the WWE(circa 2001) that 4 months later after he debuted he was main eventing a ppv. If that doesn't make you a draw then i don't know what will. Guest MissMattitude Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Kurt Angle has huge fan support... doesn't make him a draw. Jeff Hardy had a lot of fans... did that make him a draw. The same goes for others aswell, Jericho, Booker T... SPANKY. If The Rock, Austin and Foley can't draw at the moment then RVD sure as hell can't.
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I remember people bashing Goldberg because he hadn't drawn any money in over two years. While a fan of RVD myself he isn't a draw right now. Anybody if used correctly could draw, it's just that there is no one, besides maybe Kane right now, that can draw with the way they are being used.
