I was fired from my job at Movie Gallery today for selling porn to an 18 year old, who gave it to a 16 year old outside the store. The mother of the 16 year old threatened a suit against the company until the kid confessed and said that an 18 year old bought it for him, but I was still fired anyway, even after all suits and potential charges were dropped.

 

I always had a feeling the company had it out for me from day one, but damn, they could have at least gotten me on something substantial that I could have, you know, controlled.

Him and his friends were in the store sure, but they didn't go into the back room with him or anything. I had no real reason to think they had anything to do with it.

 

Oh, and in South Carolina, employers can fire someone just for giving them a funny look, so no wrongful termination suits for me.

Consider this a blessing in disguise.

 

Now you no longer have to make minimum wage at a place where they treat you like shit.

 

You can graduate to higher pay. You'll still get treated like shit though.

Technically, though, he probably wouldn't win it, as the company would probably cite employment at will, which means there is no contract between the employer and the employee and that the employee can be terminated at any time for any reason. On the flipside of that, it also means the employee can quit for any reason, too, and that the employer cannot keep him or her from doing so.

Yeah, this is something like what happened to my brother. He got fired because he supposedly got in a fight with another employee. When he went for unemployment, they did an investigation on his firing and sent him a letter saying basically there was no reason for his firing, they just got rid of him to get rid of him. He took that to a lawyer who told him that even tho that was the case, he had no case because of "employment at will".

 

 

Sorry about your job tho Kotz, but hopefully with the holiday season approaching you won't have to be unemployed that long.
