Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I came up with this theory. What are the 3 generally regarded best WrestleManias? III, X, XVII III took place in 1987 7 years later (1994), WrestleMania X 7 years later (2001), WrestleMania XVII Folks the next great WrestleMania will be WrestleMania XXIV in 2008.
Youth N Asia Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Debatable. Wrestlemania 3 was the biggest, no question, one great match and a few other ok ones. But I didn't get the same boner over 10 as everyone else did. I loved Bret vs Owen, but the rest of the show didn't do it for me. And I really liked 17.
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 However WMXIII shoots your theory to hell because that was on Par with those cards... Two ****+ Matches, The Historic Hogan Match (as it his first retirement...which made it significant)...And aside from a Boring tag match...nothing sucked.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 III is more than it's one great match, it's the whole spectacle, Silverdome, midget squashing, ring carts, Hogan/Andre It's THE one event that everyone must watch regardless of match quality.

I'd expect nothing less from you.

Well it was WMVIII not XIII but you are correct. edit: Damn, MrZsasz you're quick.
Youth N Asia Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I loved VIII and XVIII...probably more then III and XVII
Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Ah VIII was good, but it's a 2 match show And unlike X those two matches weren't Hart/Hart & the Ladder match.
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 And III was a two match card as well. The World and I.C title match.
Youth N Asia Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I like Shawn and Razor's other ladder match better
Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 And III was a two match card as well. The World and I.C title match. If you were gonna show a non wrestling fan a WrestleMania between III & VIII, be honest which one makes the more impressive showcase to a Non-fan
Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Look, the majority of WrestleMania's are good, the only truly unwatchable ones in my opinion would be IX, XI, and XV (XIII is saved by of course Hart/Austin and the streetfight, and I like Vader/Mankind vs Bulldog/Owen)
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 III of course...No question but I was just saying Match Quality they were pretty even...and I think Savage/Flair beats Savage/Steamboat personally...by a fucking small margin of course but i was more emotionaly captivated by The Flair match
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Look, the majority of WrestleMania's are good, the only truly unwatchable ones in my opinion would be IX, XI, and XV (XIII is saved by of course Hart/Austin and the streetfight, and I like Vader/Mankind vs Bulldog/Owen) What about IV? Aside from the Gimmick it doesn't have much going for it... WMV is a one match card...
Youth N Asia Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I got more out of Piper/Hart then Savage/Steamboard or Savage/Flair
Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 The first 8 WrestleMania's have this epic feel to them, I can watch them for the spectacle, not worried about match quality. And V has a cool Perfect/Blazer match and Strike Force vs Brain Busters, plus Piper's Pit.
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 WM9 had an actual Epic Feel to it with the Outdoor venue...so did WMX. 11-2000 felt like "just another ppv"... 17-18-19 went back to the epic feel...
Guest JRE Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Does anyone else still get pissed off that the big...what was it....10 man tag match at Wrestlemania X got cancelled? They showed backstage promos with like...The 123 Kid...Tatanka....IRS...Jarrett....The Headshrinkers...Sparky Plugg...and some other cool gimmicks I'd like to look back on. And then it's cancelled because....what was it? The heel team couldn't decide on a leader? Yep, cancelled....and for what....a fake President Clinton? Howard Finkel getting hair? It eats me alive to this day
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 They did it the next night anyways...
Guest JRE Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Yeah....but I don't have the next night on tape. They teased me with flashy gimmicks....and then they dropped it.
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 well...Excuse me... Sparkly Gimmicks or 2 ***** matches?
Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 WM9 had an actual Epic Feel to it with the Outdoor venue...so did WMX. 11-2000 felt like "just another ppv"... 17-18-19 went back to the epic feel... Yes that's true, the last 3 WM have had that special feel returned to them.
Guest JRE Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 The President Clinton thing could have gone, and the squash match....which would have provided just enough time for a short brawl...THEN they could have done a full match the next night. ....IT IS A BIG DEAL
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Is it the dome that gives off that EPIC feeling?
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Ah VIII was good, but it's a 2 match show And unlike X those two matches weren't Hart/Hart & the Ladder match. Perosnally I find, Savage/Flair > HBK/Razor and almost on par with Bret/Owen. But overall I prefer WM10, especially for the ending.
Guest Choken One Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I still get chills seeing Owen's Stoic Face at the end...with no commentary or anything... Just the music playing...Savage motioning Owen to come in...even holding the ropes for him...
Adam Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Do we all agree that WM XX with more than likely suck?
CanadianChick Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I don't agree with that at all. I think WM XX will be quite good.
Guest JRE Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Doesn't most of the "XX will suck" stuff stem from the fact that it's being hyped so much? I just can't buy into superstition like that. I have a lot of faith in Wrestlemania XX being good.
