NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Now don't get me wrong, Austin has what it takes to make the GM role work but my main problem is the fact that this new watered down version of Austin is just boring as hell. Everything he does is so predictable. I really miss the old Austin that would give coach a stunner and then turn around and stun the person he just helped. I know he has to play more of a straight face to counter the straight heel Bischoff, but when it comes to Austin as an entertainer it just isn't the same nor as fun seeing the "I love the good guys" Austin. I mean Austin toasting beers with Shane McMahon, wtf? I wish Austin would just revert back to the F-Everyone attitude.
Guest mickberna Report post Posted August 26, 2003 I wish Austin would just revert back to the F-Everyone attitude. I wish Austin would retire. I mean, he can't wrestle, and as you mentioned, he's not entertaining in this role... what's the damn point?
Guest JMA Report post Posted August 26, 2003 I'm with Mike here. The old Stone Cold wouldn't have sung the national anthem with Lillian Garcia. He wouldn't have been some comedy redneck either. And the old Stone Cold certainly wouldn't kiss JR's ass every week.
Guest Ray Report post Posted August 26, 2003 I wish Austin would just revert back to the F-Everyone attitude. I wish Austin would retire. I mean, he can't wrestle, and as you mentioned, he's not entertaining in this role... what's the damn point? Exactly. He'll never be an active wrestler again. I'd rather remember the old Austin than see the watered down version doing basically nothing every week.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Ok, yes IDEALLY I wish Austin would retire, but he isn't going anywhere anytime soon it seems, so lets concentrate on improving what we are seeing.
Guest Fook Report post Posted August 26, 2003 I agree 100%. I HATE the new Austin. He just kisses JR's ass, helps the faces, and predictably stuns Bischoff once in a while. I'm praying that one day they'll have his character snap, pillmanize JR, and go back to the badass Austin of 97.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 The only way Austin circa '97 would work, is if he returned to the ring.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Or if Austin was the only GM.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 That's true. But do you really want a non-wrestler beating up the active roster all the time.
Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Austin should've retired after putting over Rocky at WM. It was a fitting ending to a great career. Most people remember the last thing superstars have done in their careers, and it would suck for people to judge Austin's career based on a lame GM run. I mean, he can't wrestle, and as you mentioned, he's not entertaining in this role... what's the damn point? Austin, and this is the writers' fault, is probably the most over guy on Raw today - so to take him off the show would be detremental to the product. The best thing about his character is that he can't attack fellow superstars without being provoked. Let's face it, if that weren't the case, we would get reruns of 98/99 where Austin comes ringside during a match, hits Stunners on both men involved, and then cuts some promo on random heel. Austin and Jericho are the best talkers on Raw, IMO, and unlike Triple H Austin will actually show up at house shows.

Austin showing up may be true, but who is going to pay money to watch someone talk? People want to see wrestlers wrestle.

Austin has been completely and utterly useless sack of shit ever since 2001's WM. The heel turn utterly killed his career DOA and his little temper tantrum that completely and utterly derailed Guerrerro and Benoit's pushes sealed his fate as being an utterly useless cancer upon the face of the WWE. Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 I'm sick of Austin killing people's heat. He gets to beat up everyone anyway because he somehow gets "provoked" and if he doesn't get to touch them, he intimidates them (Chrisitan) and makes them look like bitches. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Austin has been completely and utterly useless sack of shit ever since 2001's WM. Well, that's balls. He was awesome in nearly all of 2001. He made that dogshit Invasion storyline slightly entertaining and had some great matches.
Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Austin has been completely and utterly useless sack of shit ever since 2001's WM. The heel turn utterly killed his career DOA Austin's heel work in 2001 was damn near brilliant, and one of the few saving graces of the Invasion. and his little temper tantrum that completely and utterly derailed Guerrerro and Benoit's pushes sealed his fate as being an utterly useless cancer upon the face of the WWE. I can give you Guerrero, but they fucked up Benoit's push from the get-go by: - giving him no build-up after returning from a year absence - turning him heel for no reason (in Canada no less) Austin can't be blamed for that. If you don't like him fine, but don't make shit up to try and justify your viewpoint later.
Just call me Dan 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 I guess I'm the only one who is standing beside Austin wrestling the last match at XX. I think he can somewhat work one, and if he can just chill up until that point, that would be a big draw to help XX not bomb like the previous year. Why wouldn't they milk a match as Austin LAST EVER? Sure, they say that about 19, but VERY rarely. He's got ONE more left in him, and he putting over someone once more before either leaving the WWE or just being a Foley type.
notJames 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 This has been said before in other threads, but it bears repeating: Stone Cold isn't the same guy anymore, and that's what's making him so uninteresting and, dare I say it, damaging to the rest of the roster. Initially, he was the everyman raging against corrupt authority. So it was perfectly within his character to triumph over insurmountable odds. Now he is the corrupt authority, changing matches, disrupting other wrestlers' agendas, and knocking everyone down in his path. Whether he does this with the approval of the audience or not is a moot point: he's using his position to throw his weight around, and it contradicts everything that made him so beloved and revered. The REAL Austin will never resurface so long as he can't wrestle and continues to wear the GM badge. Better to just tune out his hackneyed song and dance and dream of times when he was someone worth cheering for.
