Lando Griffin Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Over a week through the Open, and no discussion? Damn, people. You can like tennis and still be manly. I'll start off with my predicted champions. Men's: Roger Federer. I'm tempted to pick Andy Roddick, considering he did beat Federer at a hard court warm up tourney, but Federer is on too much of a roll. Don't count out Agassi either. Women's: Justine Henin-Herdenne. I would pick Lindsay Davenport were it not for the injured foot. One more thing: I love the Hawkeye.
Gert T Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 I like Agassi or Hewitt in the men's, although you are right, Roger is on a roll right now. I'd love to see Younes El Aynaoui pull off the upset and set up a re-match with Roddick in the semi's. I'll take Kim Clijsters on the women's side, although she may have a tough match against Mauriesmo.
The Czech Republic Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Whatever. The best match of the Open was the Connors-Krickstein replay, so there. Not enough "That's bullshit! You're an abortion, a goddamn abortion, now get out of the chair, you goddamn son of a bitch" these days. Agassi over Martin, Hewitt over Roddick, Agassi over Hewitt. Mauresmo over Davenport, Henin-Hardenne over Capriati, Henin-Hardenne over Mauresmo.
CanadianChris Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Whatever. The best match of the Open was the Connors-Krickstein replay, so there. So true. We haven't had a match like that since the Sampras vomit match. That brought back some vivid memories. I watched that match the day before I started my final year of high school.
Guest Anglesault Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I don't watch Tennis at all, so for the first time that I can think of, I saw a picture of Jennifer Capriati. My first thought was "I thought Chyna was running for her life, why is she at the US Open?" My second thought was "Between her can the Williams Brothers, I'm beginning to think that all female Tennis players are beasts." Please direct me to a photo of the supposedly attractive Russian girl.
Swift Terror Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Please direct me to a photo of the supposedly attractive Russian girl. Type in Anna Kournikova in any search engine and you will get a gazillion hits, mostly celebrity porn (not that I'm into that kind of thing ). Some other babes in women's tennis: Ashley Harkleroad Elena Dementieva Old school babe: Gabriela Sabatini JC Ferrero, I think, wants to prove himself on hardcourts very badly. Look for him to put up a better run than most Euro clay courters.
notJames Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 At this rate, they better start selling scuba gear at the USTA gift shoppe...
Guest Anglesault Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Dat ass 0wns your faces. That looks like Willie Randolph
Guest Nanks Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Well, depsite how late in the tournament it is, I'm still gonna make predictions. Mens: Lleyton Hewitt Darkhorse: Sjeng Schalken Womens: Kim Clijsters Darkhorse: Anastasia Myskina It'd be handy if it'd stop raining over there though so I can watch some frickin' tennis
CanadianChris Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Women's winner: Mother Nature.
notJames Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 I can't believe that Roddick/Malisse match went on after midnight EST last night, and people still stayed to watch it. Malisse put up a great fight in the 3rd set, but Roddick put him away quite nicely. At this rate, the Women are going to have to play until October to determine a champ... unless they all start pulling a Taylor Dent and pull out due to injuries, especially with the way the condensation and rain are affecting the courts. Go Agassi!
Lando Griffin Posted September 4, 2003 Author Report Posted September 4, 2003 Actually, I think the women are further ahead than the men.
Ripper Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Dat ass 0wns your faces. That looks like Willie Randolph If I knew who that was.... *shakes fist*
Lando Griffin Posted September 5, 2003 Author Report Posted September 5, 2003 So my pick, Federer, loses to David Nalbandian. If I recall correctly, I think there's a chance of a Roddick/Hewitt final, which would rock.
Gert T Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 Jennifer Capriati, biggest chokejob ever! Anybody else who watched that match now that when Henin-Hardene broke her at 5-3 in the second set there was no way Capriati was winning the match? And they must get along great that after the 3+ hour match we got the "no eye contact handshake"!
The Czech Republic Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 Jennifer Capriati, biggest chokejob ever! Anybody else who watched that match now that when Henin-Hardene broke her at 5-3 in the second set there was no way Capriati was winning the match? And they must get along great that after the 3+ hour match we got the "no eye contact handshake"! Yeah, glad to see Henin won. However... AWWWW, FUCK. Nalbandian?!? What's this guy's deal? He's just kind of there and inexplicably succeeds. Completely boring compared to Roddick, Agassi, and Ferrero. I was pulling for El Anoyuaiauaieaoiui.
Lando Griffin Posted September 7, 2003 Author Report Posted September 7, 2003 Holy shit, what a match~! Roddick down two sets and match point and he comes back to win. I can feel it. Destiny is upon us. Too bad we couldn't have Agassi to pass the torch to him tomorrow.
CanadianChris Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Oh my GOD. Michael Bolton is singing America The Beautiful before the men's final. Worst. Decision. EVER.
Guest Choken One Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Michael Bolton? From Office Space?
The Czech Republic Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Go Ferrero! I hate Roddick and most of the Young Americans (Dent, Ginepri, Fish, and espeically Blake) for being overhyped. Granted, Roddick's lived up to it, and at least he's stopped wearing his hat backwards. Whatever. I guess I don't hate Andy Roddick after all. But James Blake, oh boy.
Guest Nanks Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Well good on him. He really is the hottest player out there right now. I really do rate when guys get that emotional for winning a Slam. Oh what, is Roddick nailing Mandy Moore?? Bastard. Geez the future of the mens' game is looking exciting.
