better benot/angle match

Recommended Posts

no one has more chemistry in the ring than benoit and angle

Misawa/Kawada?

Come now, not everyone is into Puroresu.

(Even though everyone should at least TRY to seek it out!)

Hey, he's the one that said "no one."

Touche.

Of course, to someone who just watches WWE, to them that could be true. Many don't even know about other forms of wrestling.

If we're talking WWE technical wrestling, then I couldn't agree more. Although you have to admit that Foley & HHH were good together as were Austin & Rock.

They didn't wrestle a lot of "technical" matches though. It was mostly brawling.

Do they not have capital letters where you come from either?

Brock said that before he was a Pro. Wrestler I do believe, and I bet he believed it back then.

I'm just talking about currently. I can't think of a single feud where two guys have a consistant chemistry together like Benoit/Angle have with one another.

Let's just assume it's the same, give that a try.

Its the first country of the new world and it is located in between Cuba and Puerto Rico. Ric flair once came down here to defence the title and he had to let himself get pinned to avoid a riot and MLB's Pedro Martinez,Alex Rodrigues,Sammy Sosa,Tony Batista,Raul Mondesi,Alfonso Soriano,Felipe Alou,Moises Alou,Pedro Guerrero and many more come from

I would place the chemistry of Benoit/Angle over both Austin/Rock and HHH/Foley, although all three combinations bring the best out of those involved.

You could easily call the Angle/Benoit matches overrated, but only because we rate them at unattainable heights of greatness. By comparison to just about anything WWE have ever thrown at us, few can even come close to touching them. My only real complaint throughout the entire series was/is the overuse of German suplexes.

Yeah...that's exactly why they're overrated. They're not "unattainably great."

Hart/Hart is superior. Austin/Hart is superior. Austin/Benoit is superior. And there's Japan...Misawa/Tsuruta blows them all away. Benoit alone has had dozens of better matches.

More than "a few" not only touch them, but surpass them easily. I point to all the aforementioned matches.

There's more problems than just the overuse of suplexes. Angle's poor selling is one...

Here we go again....

I thought Angle's program with Austin was superior to Benoit's though, it had more emotion and a better backstory to it with Austin stealing Angle's medals and tossing them in the river tied to a cinder block.

I've never had a problem with Angle's selling. I don't see current Benoit doing a better job, so....

Yes...and we'll keep doing this until people stop overrating things, and until people realize Angle isn't the best and he isn't perfect, no matter how much or how many people love him.

Austin/Benoit was the better match, and it had plenty of emotion. Angle/Austin was also good though (superior to Angle/Benoit).

I've never had a problem with Angle's selling.

You're not paying attention then. ;)

Watch as he NO-SELLS a knee injury to RUNS AT FULL SPEED ACROSS THE RING TO DO A TOP ROPE SUPLEX.

Watch as he NO-SELLS a huge DDT by moving around fastly as if nothing happened only a moment later.

Angle is simply a poor long term seller.

Okay, as a long term seller he's not great. But like I said, I don't see much of anyone doing good long time selling in WWE matches. Benoit (currently) sells much the same as Angle, same as Guerrero.

They all sell as much as need be but still allow themselves to do signature moves no problem. Beniot gets turned inside out with a powerbomb, and seconds later he is chopping away, laying down suplexes and doing the diving head-BUTT off the top rope.

It simply seems to be the name of the game with WWE. And Kurt Angle was trained doing this style, so naturally he would follow it to a "T". If Angle could go overseas, work in Japan for awhile and train there, I could bet cash money he would be able to blow virtually everyone out of the water work-rate wise. He's such a natural talent that I have no doubt.

RR'03 was the best, but I still have a soft spot for the Mania match. It was their first big match against each other, and they brought a rather quiet crowd to their feet with awesome wrestling sequences. I also loved the story where Angle wants to go to the mat constantly, gets outwrestled a couple of times, gets frustrated and then just CLOCKS Benoit in the face and turns the match into a brawl. The commentary by Ross and especially Heyman was off the charts here, too.

You could tell from that match that they were destined for even more greatness in future matches.

I like Angle/Benoit from RR 03 better than Austin/Hart @ Mania

Basically, I thought the Austin/Hart match had too much brawling. Granted, you had to expect that the way the storyline was built up...but it was a submission match.

Also, Ken Shamrock is a horrid ref.

Just one mans opinion.

What's wrong with "brawling" ?

The Austin/Hart match told a much deeper, better story than the Angle/Benoit match.

Moveset isn't the most important thing...

Benoit still sells the overall effect of a match after winning a match more convincingly than Angle, who celebrates as if all he just did a short jog (RR 03 included).

Yeah, I liked seeing Brock tap too. But it always seems special when a heel actually wins cleanly without cheating. Faces can win cleanly, but never heels it seems.

Brock tapping sucks. It wasn't built up the least at all, they never teased it once. On top of that, Benoit should have been the man to make Brock tap IMO. Angle can still use the Angle Slam or occasional Top Rope Angle Slam as finishers but Benoit can only get by on the crossface.

So you didn't like it because you didn't see it coming? What a terrible reason for not liking it. Personally that was THE reason I marked out for Lesnar tapping. I was watching it, waiting, expecting for him to roll over, or crawl to the ropes or whatever... tap tap tap BOOM!!! I thought it was pretty badass myself.

I personally like their Unforgiven match as their best match. To me, at least, it has a better pace and better action. A lot of guys tend to slightly overrate Angle/Benoit at the Royal Rumbe because of Chris Benoit's post-match ovation. I love the Rumble match but I think the Unforgiven match is a little bit better. The one thing that the RR match has that is better is the finish. It had a more epic finish, rather than Unforgiven's quick and sneaky pinfall.
