This is BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!

I can't believe it, but as I'm browsing through the latest RAW magazine with Lita on the cover, I came a across SummerSlam 2003, which will hit video stores pretty soon. Guess who was on the cover of a PPV that featured an Elimination Chamber and rematch from WrestleMania?

Sable. Fucking Sable. She had a small cameo on the PPV and now she gets to grace the cover of the DVD and video? Why???

This is a main indicator of what the McMahon family thinks. Obviously, Sable is more important to them than all their wrestlers combined.

Sure, most of you guys will probably think I'm over-reacting, but don't you guys remember what the WrestleMania 6 video cover looks like? Exactly. Video/DVD covers are indelible - they're incapable of being erased. Because of their tangible nature, they last forever, unlike last week's RAW episode. Ten years from now, when someone asks me about SummerSlam 2003, I'm going to think of Sable.

Ugh.

WM6....Warrior/Hogan posing in with the snowy mountains in the background...yes I remember it well....

I never got that one. WM VI was in Toronto. Do they have any mountains in Toronto?

WWE has gotten lazy in terms of their DVD covers. Lately, they just take the promo poster for it (which is made months in advance and with no real connection to the current storylines) and use that as the DVD cover.

Sable was on the SummerSlam poster and hence, the same pic is the DVD cover.

You think of the video cover when you recall an event?

So, when you think of the 2003 Rumble, you'll going think of HHH first and not Angle/Benoit?

When recalling the 1998 KOTR, you're going to think of Sable posing in leather with UT/Foley in a little inset in the corner?

Remembering this year's Vengeance for the Undertaker's face?

Well, it's not so such "lazy" as it was "forced". WWEHV are releasing PPV DVD's one month after their initial airing, probably due to some order from the head of the production department. Keeping that in mind, I think THAT will explain why they're sticking with the promo posters and not including new artwork based on the show.

I hear ya on Sable being on the cover, it's a joke.

I know it's no big deal, but when you think about it , it's the little things like that cover that WWE drops the ball with.

I mean think about it, if the NFL released a DVD of a SuperBowl or some other memorable game would they put a cheerleader on the cover of it?? I doubt it.

HHH was one of the main guys involved in the Royal Rumble PPV and Sable was hugely popular back then, so it makes sense. Sable is NOTHING right now so it makes no sense at all to put her on the cover.

But we're not vouching the importance or validity of the worker on the cover - the original poster's argument was that they'll think of Sable when they recall Summerslam 2003. It's foolish to believe the video cover should be the first memory you have of a show.

the bottom line no matter what we all think is that Tits and Ass Sell. Not to a fan like myself who enjoys women that can actually Wrestle a bit. But the focus for them is horny teens and horny adults looking for a cheap thrill. and with that said is there any wonder why the quality is in the crapper?

Not true, the HLA segment from a Raw did a terrible rating. Interesting stuff sells, "tits and ass" do not automatically sell. Sable is an old lady who doesn't get much of a reaction when she comes out, so having her on the cover definitely won't have an impact on VHS/DVD sales.

Yeah, she will. I now have no desire to get the Summerslam tape or DVD. So there's a negative impact for me.

I would buy the DVD so I can watch the PPV, but I would never buy the Sableslam 03 poster.

I'd buy it if only for the Angle match. The rest of the card really had no bearing on me.

I don't buy DVDs for one match--I wish I was in Canada where I would have been able to tape the Angle/Lesnar match instead of getting the Mullets.

Okay, that's the only time I ever wished I was in Canada, but whatever.

It being a crap show helps though ATS.

Yeah, that too. Leave it up to WWE to fuck the streak of bitchin' Summerslams up, even when they didn't do it last year.

Do most of you buy the PPV and then get the DVD also? You sure do spend alot of money on something you bitch so much about.

My cable company doesn't allow you to buy PPVs unless you have the digital cable service, which I don't need.

So I buy the PPV DVDs if the PPVs were good. You can't know for sure the quality of the PPV if you haven't seen it yet, although you can read recaps and get a good idea of the quality of the show after it has happened.

Then in the middle of it is replays, which I might do now and then if it were an option for me.

It comes down to 35 bucks vs. 20 or less for me. I'm patient enough to wait if it is a good show.

I don't buy the PPV but I get the DVDs. However most people watch the PPV for free in a bar then buy the VHS/DVD. Even if they bitch about the PPV overall, they would still buy the PPV if there is a match or two that they really like.

So the cover decided whether you'd buy the DVD or not?

Not anything like, you know, match quality, or overall entertainment value?

Honestly, either you liked the show or you didn't - that up's to you, but that should be your sole motivating factor in buying the DVD (save for the price)

On the opposite end of the spectrum, would you buy a DVD just because of a awe-inspiring cover?

If a person couldn't find the poster available for the PPV and they were willing to dish out the money, they would buy the DVD just for the cover.

If it is an embarrassing cover, I won't buy it at a store, but rather online.

Summerslam sucks overall this year, so I probably wouldn't buy it anyway without a ton of great extras. If it was good I'd get the DVD online probably.

And of course not.

Those people still exist?
