fazzle 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I thought it was the best episode of the season so far. First episode was shit, second was ok, while this one was decently good. Next week's looks fucking bad ass. I was loving Fred and her "Shut UP Spike!" attitude in the first half of the episode. I think that's what made it for me. Mole 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 The Bad This doesn't feel like Angel anymore. The end, with the fucking david gray-esque music (or it was, infact, david gray) had a whole After-School Special feel to it that made me want to puke. I thought it might be a dream, or just fucking with us, and the real ended had the warewolf fucking everything up proper, but it was just fucking hugs and chinese food... what the fuck? There's not really enough pressure on the season, I miss the big bads. I miss the giganto story-arcs. This is so fucking season one, and I already seen Season 1... Season 5 of Buffy had all the kinks worked out, all the characters established, and then played with it. Now we're getting all this new shit. Fuck that shit. I second that. This feels NOTHING like Angel anymore, season 4 owned and they are no where near that. Damn WB.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 It's only the third episode. Last season the third episode was that Vegas episode and it was pretty weaksauce except for the end where Cordy returned.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Something I've noticed that's been bugging me is that Spike is always holding his coat closed. Why is he doing that? Is it a little quirk that Joss added to make it seem like he feels cold???

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 The problem is it all feels like introductory episodes. I could understand that for Eps 1 and 2, but 3? They should kick some shit into gear. I understand they are building and establishing stuff, but jesus fuckin christ, what was the point of the last 4 seasons then? And they are taking baby steps with the build anyways.... "what does wolfram and heart want with us" should be more of a focal point.. we need some Eve-action up in this piece. I have low patience and low attention level... I need more arc! AAAAAARRRRK! I need something keeping me watching. I can only take episodic television when it's high-quality, and what they're doing here is just run-of-the-mill. fazzle 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 we need some Eve-action up in this piece. No, No, No, a thousand times NO! I'd be happy if I never had to see Eve again.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Yeah Eve is becoming annoying. I think what was missing from tonight's episode was the characters we've been introduced to or reintroduced to this season were'nt there. Knox, Eve, and Harmony all weren't there. It made the episode feel out of place.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Eve was on screen for like 5 fucking minutes, how could she 'become annoying'? I mean, I'm all for jumping the gun in most cases, but not this one. She's the only character on the show doing the LILAH WALK for crying out loud!

LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 (edited) Someone bashed the first ep. That makes Baby Jesus cry. Someone also trashed the Vegas ep. That makes...uh...Toddler Jesus cry. I thought the ending was cute. It's kind of nice to have an actual happy ending to an Angel episode. When was the last time that happened? I thought it was the same guy from Ent, but I wasn't sure. Funny to see him there. Was I the only one that thought "Ninjas~?!?!" when the guys in black attacked Fred/Funbags McBlondie? It would have been much better if they were ninjas. I also wonder what the heck happened to Electrogirl from last season. Gunn needs his dose of skinny white chick. Well, maybe he'll bang Eve. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 A Sweet Spoiler here. I don't mind FUN~! episodic television - since Team Whedon does it well - and this gives me great hope for that. It's not really a spoiler, but you know... It's about Harmony (nothing about her dying or anything)... from AICN Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Casting pages emerged Tuesday for “Angel” 5.9, which seems to focus quite a bit on vampire secretary Harmony Kendall as she navigates the mundanely macabre corridors of Wolfram & Hart. One senses all the Team Angel regulars might be reduced to supporting players in this installment. Kind of like “The Zeppo.” Actually more like “The Lower Decks.” But way funnier. A few promising details: * Harm’s fellow secretaries gossip about Winifred’s love life – whether she might be involved with Charles, Wesley or Knox. * A bit later, Harmony and Winifred will find themselves out drinking and checking out the dudes. * Harmony will greet a demon accountant arriving to take a meeting with Angel and Charles. * Harmony will take a call from Lilah Morgan’s mom. * We’ll learn that Harmony is by no means unique among the firm’s underlings. * A comically epic breakroom catfight mostly involving guest stars and eating utensils will transpire. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Tonight's episode was awful. Just boring, dull, and all very surface for anyone who's been keeping tabs of the Whedonverse for any length of time. It was all basic werewolf business and...yeah, lame. I was entirely unimpressed. Fred, however, continues to look remarkably great every week, and next week might be good. Chalk this one up as missed opportunity.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Dames here's a rundown of the episode: We start of the show with Angel and Co. taking a break on a hillside to discuss things without W&H hearing. During the talk Angel sees a girl being chased by a werewolf and goes to save her, but she gets bitten before he can kill the werewolf. Angel kills the werewolf with Wesley's pen, but the girl has ran off. The girl goes home where she lives with her sister and her niece. She notices she has heightened senses and even has a halucination of slashing her niece's throat. (Angel has been a lot more violent this season I noticed and next week has a "graphic scenes" warning!!) Her sister asks her to babysit that night. Angel begins trying to find the girl before she turns to a werewolf while a new doctor examines the dead werewolf/man. Spike shows up for a little taunting. Later Spike talks to Fred and tries to convince her to work on his situation. He even goes as far as making up a BS story about him and Wes having a "past" when she tells him to just go to Wes about it. She calls him on being full of crap though. The werewolf girl (Nina) starts turning while babysitting and has to go upstairs before she attacks. Angel comes in and uses a tranquilizer and brings her to the office where he puts her in a cage. When she wakes in the morning Angel shows her video footage of her turning back into a human to convince her it's real. She says he wouldn't understand, but he says he's a monster too. Which makes her ask if he's a Frankenstein, which Angel seems to be offended by. He tells her he's a vamp with a soul and all. Fred takes Nina back to her house to get some things to keep in the cage with her so she might feel more secure. Nina gets in an argument with her sister and Fred tries to say it was her fault because she was a frantic friend who called her up. On their way out of the house they're attacked by a bunch of men in ski masks and Fred goes crazy with a tranquilizer gun, but they still manage to take Nina. Angel and Co. try to figure out who took her when Spike catches Fred's attention and leads her to the office of the new doctor from earlier. (Spike is barely visable and not answering Fred while doing this) In the room Fred finds some drug that shielded the new doctor's aura from Lorne when he sang and Fred realizes he's evil. Fred knocks the doctor out and they search his office to find that he works for a guy who serves werewolfs as food at a resturaunt. The man who took Nina has her ready to serve on a table (since werewolves have to be eaten alive or they'd just turn back human again after death) Angel busts in to save her and during the fight she (in werewolf form) kills one guy and then bites the evil doctor's leg. Meaning he'll be a werewolf and probably be eaten by the guy later. For some reason Angel leaves the guy be and just takes Nina home. Angel then invites everyone to his penthouse apartment at W&H and has a little party where he says there might be something between him and Nina..."she gave him a look" Next week Spike is haunted by other dead people and we even get a warning about GRAPHIC SCENES AND PARTIAL NUDITY!!!!....sadly it's Spike who's partially nude and not Fred. Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Rippers Rundown: 1. Another "Fuck Wesley" episode. He SO better get a solo ep. This could be because of him and ALy planning the wedding and all but dammitt, they need to show Wes some love. 2. Compare the first scene(full of finger pointing, and arguing and them noticing how this is pulling the group apart) to the final happy scene(the old crew back together, joking and laughing, and the very symbolic Fred ordering from the same old Chinese place as they did in the Hyperion). This had alot more meaning than shiney happy people. There were a few references to "family" in the ep, and this show ended by trying to recapture the family feel that this crew now has. I for one enjoyed it. 3. No Harmony makes me cry. 4. Nina'a trasformation looks a hell of alot better than anything they ever did for OZ. And the morning after in the kitchen when she started to get the senses, wonderfully shot and directed (and officially the one of the first jumps this show has gotten out of me with the little girls throat slashing) 5. Goddamn Fred is skinny. 6. I like how they used Marsters this week. Wasn't too Spike heavy...just the right amount. 7. Fred calling Spike on his bullshit Wes story...GOLD~!. The music made it hilarious! 8. Angel rubbing his forehead when the girl asked him if he was some kind of Frankenstien...MORE GOLD~! 9. Was hoping that the doctor would be around more. I recognized him as the guy from "Out of Time"(the best part of the movie aside from Lathan's ass) and really liked him. But alas. 10. Good to see Gunn get violent again. And he had Wes's shotgun! 11. I have never been MORE hyped to see the next week episode as I am now. That little preview completely sold me on it. MUST SEE IT. Overall, it was a good show...not bad...not great. I personally loved the premiere and the second ep so this is a little below them in quality to me.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Any and all jokes about Angel's forehead make me crack up, from Doyle's crack about it in Season One to Spike's "Captain Forehead" last week. The Frankenstein moment is no exception.
areacode212 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I just posted this over at TWoP, but might as well share it here as well: I thought the episode dragged, but I still enjoyed parts of it. Some notes: The Frankenstein comment made me chuckle out loud. I really liked Nina (as a human) a lot, though the actual werewolf parts of the episode were extremely dull. I hear she may be recurring, and I'm not unhappy about that. I thought she & DB had some decent chemistry, and she might be OK as a friend/sort-of love interest, just as long as she doesn't show up too often (we already have 6 regulars & a bunch of recurrings). I would much rather see more of her than Eve. And the Elisha Cuthbert/Tracy Middendorf resemblance didn't strike me. Her mouth kind of reminded me of Mercedes McNab, actually. Speaking of MM, I'm glad she wasn't in this ep. Partly because the more Harmony's 17 appearances are spread out this season, the more likely she is to survive through episode 22. Amazing how Spike had about 15% the amount of dialogue that he had last week, but managed to be 100% as annoying. He did get me going on his "Wesley & I have a history" story though. The MoG bonding did feel a little forced & unnatural, but hey, I'll take it over no bonding at all. I would've been able to buy it more if Fred hadn't given her family speech in the truck. [comic geek mode]It reminded me of those old Devin Grayson issues of The Titans, where every 2 pages, somebody would turn around and exclaim, "Look at us! We're a family! We're not like the JLA at all!".[/cgm] Show, don't tell. As someone said upthread, the big "she's going to be served as a meal" twist would've been a lot more effective if it hadn't been spoiled in the TV Guide summary. I loved seeing Fred shooting those Initiative wannabes & calling Spike on his shit. And Gunn was cool kicking ass & brandishing a gun, all while wearing that expensive suit. I didn't mind the no Oz-shoutout. Angel hasn't seen him in 4 years and they weren't all that close, so I wasn't surprised that it didn't come up. If Nina does recur, maybe we'll get a mention. Mole 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 6 Commentaries...FUCK YA!! The past two Angel DVDs have shit for extras, with only 2 commentaries on each one. And I marked out when Gunn wipped out the shotgun. I actually yelled out loud "Damn, fuck shit up Gunn." It wasn't as phat when Wes wipped out the shotgun in "Apoclypse Nowish." That was just....DAMN GINA!
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Nina better not become a player, I mean, I love the eye candy and all, but jesus christ we did the werewolf gimmick in Buffy.
