The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

Maybe due to squeamishness from the networks, the show tended to stay far, far away from any actual details regarding Willow's sexuality. She and Tara were together a full year before they were even shown kissing, for chrissakes. Even while Buffy & Spike were clearly shown humping away like crazed bunnies, Willow's sex scenes never got any more explicit than a shot of her face while she was breathing heavy.

There are some fanboy/girls out there who insist that Willow is and always has been gay, which seems fairly retarded considering that she was clearly sleeping with Oz and enjoying it muchly. I'd call her a bisexual who got turned off men ever since Oz dumped her and leave it at that.

As for the Cordelia hate? Quick-&-easy answer: Charisma Carpenter was the worst actor(ess) out of all the main stars on Buffy or Angel, and the writers always made her be whiny as hell to boot.

Cordy was ok until Champ Cordy. It's just not believable. They pushed it too hard. If Cordelia is a champion then so is anya.

The WB said, at first, "No girl-girl kissing."

Then they had Jack from Dawson's Creek kiss another guy, so that went out the window.

We have to wait until Season 4 gets released on DVD. This thread is still pretty active.

Does anyone want me to keep on going with the Connor script?

Man, I've been watching Couplet and it's quite the emotional little episode for Angel. It's sad and touching, with him not being able to get close to

Wesley: "I though I was alone."

Angel, holding baby Connor: "Yeah, so did I."

And then you see the translated prophesy.

But it's a really touching scene. Season Three just flows so fucking nicely.

Yknow I never thought charisma was bad acting, but I thought she played the annoying biotch well . and she was good for a laugh with airheaded moments and lines early on in angel. but you have a point. That being said I still like season 4 no matter what.

and btw Darla was the first vampire ever shown on buffy (in the opening scene where she kills that student) so I wouldn't call her unimportant on buffy all in all. But clearly she was much more important on angel.

hey buffy is on fx right not 2:40 pm PST. did they change the timeslot?

Yes, FX changed it. Only showing one now too.

This thread cant be killed. I need to talk about Buffy every day.

I probably like season 5 best. Sure, season 4 has "THE BEAST~!", but it's also got "Evil Cordelia Sucking Ass~!", and "The House Always Wins~!", one of my least favorite Whedonverse episodes. The only episode in season 5 that I thought was weak at all was Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco, and that has "The Devil Building A Robot~!"

I like the House Always Wins, if just for Angel reminiscing about Vegas. And I like the whole "If Angel doesn't have a future, what is there left to fight for'" thing, even though Not Fade Away did a better job with it.

THAW is ok.

Cautionary Tale is really good. One of the best at building the W&H story. It's a fun, goofy story, but is really pretty moving in the end. Very Whedonesque.

The only eps in season 5 I haven't liked are Why We Fight, Damage and Harm's Way.

I hate Harmony, so a Harm centric ep is not very exciting.

WWF is just boring.

"Crazy" people in the buffyverse are always lame and Dana is no expection. Ever since I started working in mental health I've found it hard to take those eps seriously.

As single eps season 5 is the best. The problem with it is when you look at the story as a whole. That reviewer who mentioned that is right: The W&H story is just a lot of talk. Angel is all emo and whines about how W&H is just killing them and corrupting them but you never really see it, or at least what you see doesn't match how serious and gloomy he is about the situation. He just whines and moans over and over, will seeminly get over it and be cool with it, then just suddenly go back to being broody the next ep. There's also not enough fallout from the mind wipe and the Lindsay story still makes no sense.

Go watch "Becoming Pt 2" and see how well her acting skills are in that episode. ESPECIALLY the line she says at the end "Well, she has to show up sometime. We still have school." Or whatever she says, but it sucks.

So . . . where might one be able to acquire "Not Fade Away"? I've checked a couple of bitTorrent sites but they're always some insanely slow download rate like 1kb/s or some such crap.

Would Kazaa be a safe bet?

From Conviction (5.1):

FRED

Is this gonna be our lives now? Fighting our own employees, our own clients? Are we really gonna do any good?

ANGEL

(rubbing his chin)

Yes, we are. We're gonna change things. We came to Wolfram and Hart because it's a powerful weapon, and we'll figure out how to wield it.

WESLEY

Or kill ourselves with it.

FRED

(flatly)

Yay, team.

ANGEL

No, sooner or later they'll tip their hand, and we'll find out why they really brought us here. Meanwhile, we do the work...our way, one thing at a time. We deal with whatever comes next.

Every episode was like that for a reason. Angel got all those perks all that time, and he was happy about that. He still thought, hoped, no matter what that he could still change things. And it didn't really hit him until late that he really couldn't, that it was total despair. And most eps throughout the season were Angel trying to do something, trying to utilize the resources in a positive light, and seeing that he couldn't.

"There's love. There's hope...for some. There's hope that you'll find something worthy... that your life will lead you to some joy... that after everything... you can still be surprised."

- Wesley from Shells

That's how it started up for Angel. Every day there was hope. And I think by Origin, he really pieced together that it wasn't going to work, that everything he gave up really wasn't worth it.

Gunn's "corruption" could have been a lot better too. The apex of it has him kinda sorta indirectly involved in what ended up killing Fred.

Yeah, I never did understand that either. Now, I did miss an episode or two, but as far as I could tell, Gunn just carelessly signed some papers that let Ilyria's tomb into the building. He had no idea what was going to happen, but got blamed for it anyway?

well one moment when cordy makes me mad is when she dumped xander after lovers walk. I mean he came to the hospital and appeared to be the only friend that checked up on her. I guess she got mad since the guy she took so much crap about going out with hurt her and she cant let that happen cuz she's ms popular. besides its not like willow kissing him led anywheres, and they were in mortal danger (they thought spike was going to kil them) so i guess it was a turn on or somthing

then again maybe this is just a rant against the writers of Buffy

I thought she was justified in dumping Xander's lame ass. Cordy was dating down (according to her), and their whole relationship was based on making out in closets. Meanwhile, Xander is still lusting after Buffy and then fools around with Willow several times (not just that one time). Stupid, stupid Xander. Cordy was so much hotter than Buffy and Willow.

I thought it was interesting how Willow didn't get dumped. Then, later on when Oz nails Werewolf Girl, all of a sudden it's so much worse. Yeah, fucking someone once while you have no control over your actions is so much worse than making out with some other guy over a period of time. In the words of Skip: "Puh-leese".

I think screwing someone you barely know is kind of worse than kissing your very best friend, ya know? Plus, Oz had wild werewolf sex with Varuka twice. Once in the woods, and then the second time he locked her in a cage with him. What, he expected nothing to happen? Riiiiiiiiiight.

And you know what? I don't think Willow would have broken up with Oz over it. But he chose to leave, and then she went all gay.

I don't think she would have either. But she did pull the "What you did was so much worse!" thing. At least Oz had an excuse for locking himself in the cage with her, since she'd killed people and he didn't want others to die. So technically, Oz locking him and Varuka in a cage together saved lives. You're right though, he probably knew he'd nail her when he locked themselves up together, but there was a legit reason there too.

You know, thinking about it more, there wasn't that much of a difference between what they did. Both cheated when it came down to it, and pretty much knew what they were doing at the time (second time for Oz). I just was really annoyed when Willow busted out that "worse" line.
