Aww, no Angel for me tonight.

I finally got my hands on Star Wars on DVD, so that will be what I watch before I sleep tonight.

I like flashback episodes, and Darla is up there.

Talk of the Old Ones! The master mentions that they live underground, to give tribute.

I love Darla questioning who she is. Angel looks up the name, and Darla still has no idea what she is. The name she can’t remember, or the other thing. Julie Benz is so many shades of awesome. Her biting Lindsay was an awesome scene, and telling Lindsay he wanted to screw Angel and not her. Smashing the mirrors. “Soul mates”. And you have to love when Angel hears her heartbeat.

Lindsay has a lot of going-ons in this episode. I’ve said it before, but his scenes with Darla ooze charisma. Him noticing the guard was the lawyer. Talking to Holland about Darla. And you can see Lindsay starting to change. I love how they play Lindsay.

Origins of Spike. Beautifully pairs up with “Fool for Love”.

I love how they pair up the flashbacks with something going on, and explain why Angel was still with the group. I remember watching “Fool For Love”, and seeing that scene and Angel’s delivery of those about fear and the slayer makes the whole thing so much deeper. And it’s nice to have two pieces of the puzzle in that case.

Overall Story Arcs:

Further obsession of Angel. Trying to go out looking for Darla at one in the afternoon. Angel using the noose with Lindsay was pretty intense.

Foreshadowing:

“I give it a century” – The Master

This is the same line Angellus repeats this line in the season three opener.

Got to love when Darla says she feels her body decaying, as if she knows she’s dying.

I love how Angel tries to save her. It fits in so well, with Angel mentioning that he’s damned, Darla looking to become a vampire and Angel wishing to be human in Darla’s place. And likewise, how Darla couldn’t get Angel to be evil in China. This will all come into play in the next few episodes.

"Shroud of Rahmon" is a nice little episode. It's not really heavy on the overall story, but it has a nice little story. It's one of the lesser episodes of the season so far.

I like the opening with Wes in interrogation; it's a nice touch. Cordy has the poofy hair going and I'm all like "Delivery in the Rear".

Gotta love Jay-Don and Angel. Angel as Jay-Don. Angel and Gunn really fleshing it out. Gunn really needs more sceens like this because they don't feed him enough development. And Angel with the nerves of steel and the nitro.

"Altoid, aisle four."

The Gunn and Angel scenes are so great. And the fight needed more to it.

And Kate and Angel had a bunch of nice scenes.

Overall Story Arcs:

This episode is all about Kate and Angel. Angel's just getting further and further off his rocker. The shroud just magnified that. Plus, he drank blood. Big step. You also get that awesome scene with Kate, who's getting more and more detached. They're scene together, with Angel just getting a little out of control and Kate all trying to be completely righteous, was intense. Still pushing Angel away, and Kate in her seperate direction.

Foreshadowing:

The bloodlust that has been awakened is the big thing. But not much.

Anyone else going to chime in on this ep? I'm going to do "The Trial" soon, as I probably won't be online much tomorrow.

“The Trial” is motherfucking greatness. Man, I should have watched this more it’s so good. Everything up until this point has seemed pretty feel-good. And now, you get the rug pulled out from under you. This is much like “Becoming” for Buffy, that first moment when you truly realized this was different, that the writers weren’t going to play nice, that they were taking off the kiddie gloves. They’re not playing by the same rules anymore. The teases all end up in heartbreak. They told you she was going to be saved, they set the whole thing up, that Angel would overcome every peril, and then they tied you up, bent you over, and fucked you in the ass. Not only do they build it up and shatter you heart, but they let you accept that consequence and give you something worse. This is the moment the show changed, and it would keep on moving from there. Fuck, this is like the template for how you pull off the heartbreaks with Wes and Baby Connor, with Angel and grown-up Connor, all in Season Three. It’s raw in that sense, but so well done.

Angel is total redemption in this one, MOM.

I love the Lindsay and Angel stuff, once again. God, they needed more Lindsay. Lindsay talking about Angel and “the only power” he has.

Darla singing. Good stuff.

Got to love Darla questioning why Angel does things.

The Butler is a nice touch. I like how they pull off the first fight, with Angel tying up the demon in separate areas. I like all the tests in fact, especially the second one, since IMO, it’s the most clever.

I love this talk about second chances with Darla right before W&H busts in. Her compromising, understanding that she was lucky enough, and Angel running with that was touching. And then the door breaks down, and Angel has to witness Dru turning Darla.

Foreshadowing:

Darla and Angellus, 1765. Who else could be chasing them? It’s the first mention of Holtz.

I love the talk between Angel and Lindsay, once again. The talk about love, how Lindsay says Angel never loved her, and Angel says he wasn’t capable of it. This is so going to pay off.

Was Darla smelling the jasmine in the courtyard a hint of what was to come?

Lorne telling Angel that things fall apart, when he was reading him. Cause things are falling.

The Butler asking Angel if the world was a better place with him was almost exactly what Holland Manners would say in the elevator. Angel, incredibly self-righteous, goes all out.

Overall Story Arcs:

They bring back the syphilis from “Darla”, and throw it right in your face.

I love Darla at the start, trying to get back her immortal life, pandering to the lowest of vampires. Still going at this angle, and it pays off later on. I love when Darla and Angel go at it, and Angel brings up that she was given a second chance, which is the heartbreak at the end of the trials.

Lindsay does everything to save Darla. He takes the puppy love as far as he can, uses the one power Angel had through Druscila.

Dru cuts herself the same was Darla did when she turned Angel, upper chest, IIRC.

I've been falling asleep during the season 4 Angel episodes on Space lately. Not even THE BEAST~! can keep me up.

I haven't been watching a lot of TV in general lately for some reason (rhymes with PTA :D). I'm weeks behind on a few of my favourite shows. Thank goodness for downloads and a couple of semi-big hard drives. My plan to watch the Buffyverse in the proper order went up in smoke long ago. I'm probably as far into A-S4 by now as I was into B-S6 when I started slacking.

I've never been one to provide huge analysis on any episodes, but I remember really liking the S2 Darla days when I saw them a few months ago.

The Trial, IIRC, was the start of the trend where they'd have what would mostly be a throwaway episode and have something big happen at the end, so you couldn't really skip ANY episodes even if the main plot didn't add anything to the overal season arc. Kindof annoying, but kindof not.

Great episode, though.

I think part of that is Shawn Ryan's style. But there are a lot of episode that don't end with something big or shocking, as Reunion and Reprise are the only ones I can think of.

Ha.

Out of any season, you ripped this one apart. Should I go back into the Buffy thread and get everything you said bad about it?

I know, and I still do think a bunch of it sucks and that it was a huge letdown. I could rant about it ALL DAY if I had someone that would listen. But still, it's BUFFY. Even terrible Buffy is still really good. I like the characters too much. Even though the stories suck and make like no sense I still enjoy seeing the scoobies. Plus it's kind of fresh. I've seen the other stuff so many times it's just like stale now, but with S7 it's still kind of new. I've only seen most of the eps 3 or 4 times.

I change my mind a lot after time passes. I used to not like OMWF that much. Xander used to be my favorite character for a long time. I will always think s7 has tons of problems, but I do kind of like watching it.

I'm liking some of the individual episodes in Season Seven, but not the overall story.

And c'mon people, get in on the DVD club. Before we get to "Badass" Angel.
