NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 I think the movie itself is the weakest in the trilogy, but good enough to own still. How is the DVD itself, like the featues and stuff?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Well yeah it is the weakest of the trilogy, but it's still a good movie. I mean the first two films in the trilogy are classics, so not living up to them is no big surprise. Besides, you have to own the complete trilogy. On paper, the extras are great. • Commentary by director George A. Romero, Special Make-up Effects Artist Tom Savini, Production Designer Cletus Anderson, and Actress Lori Cardille • Theatrical trailer(s) • The Many Days of Day Of The Dead - An all-new 39 minute documentary featuring interviews with the cast and crew. • Day Of The Dead: Behind The Scenes - 31 minutes of production footage from Special Make-up Artist Tom Savini • Audio Interview with Actor Richard Liberty • Wampum Mine Promotional Video • TV Spots • Production Stills • Behind-the-Scenes Photos • Poster @ Advertising Art • Gallery of Memorabilia • Zombie Make-up Photo Gallery • Continuity Stills Gallery • George Romero Bio
dubq 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Personally, this is my favourite in the trilogy...

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Only thing I could find about the new Dawn disc is one mention of it being released Summer '04. It's hard to find info on the original with Google. The damn remake kept popping up.
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 i've heard February and summer 2004 for Dawn, but nothing's definitive yet. Apparently a 3 disc set, Anchir Bay has said that it's gonna be one of their best DVDs ever.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Isn't it suppose to include all three cuts of the film?
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2003 i've read that it will include the Theatrical Cut and The longer Director's Cut. I read a rumor that the Third disc with the 'Zombie'(european) cut was gonna be a Best Buy exclusive, but i don't know if that was confirmed or not.

Yeah the Argento cut of the film is the one I'm most interested in. I hope it makes the cut either way. Well I mean it's the different cut I'm most interested in. The directors and theatrical isn't that different and I already own the directors cut.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2003 I own he director's cut on VHS. I have been waiting for this 3-disc set for two years. It was supposed to be out Spring 2003. I bet they are having a hard time getting cleared to use footage.
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 I'm sorry but Day of the dead sucked. Night and Dawn are classics, but Day just leaves you thinking what the f***. We're talking a stupid story, horrible make-up, no likeable characters, it's not just the weakest of the trilogy, it's a weak movie in general. Return of the Living Dead was released the same year, now THAT movie is badass. It totally took away any thunder Day of the dead had.
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 (edited) You gotta understand about the lack of likeable characters in Day. I mean, they were practically in the middle of the end of humanity and probably being the only living people around, living in a isolated and claustrophobic base, with thousands and thousand of zombies surrounding them trying to eat their guts, and with people you didn't really like to begin with, i don't think one would be happy or acting normally. I would be miserable and really depressed i guess. And bad make up?!?! this movie has some of the best zombie makeup and special effects EVER!! well, alot of people don't like it and i understand that, beign such a mmm...depressing movie. I like ROTLD more too, but Day is still one of the better zombie movies ever made, but it's true it's the weakest in the Trilogy. "Choke on Em~!" Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 20, 2003 I thought the characters were handled very well and behaved like you'd expect a group of strangers to act when confronted with such a situation. If you were looking for someone to root for you had Bub, Sarah(the main woman) and Dr. Logan. Dr. Logan did some awful stuff, but he was well meaning and was looking for a real solution. The story was likely hurt by the fact that the studio wouldn't give him enough money to film his original script. So Romero had to do a quick rewrite. It's nuts to say the makeup was horrible. It was by far the best of the trilogy and is considered one of the all-time best make up jobs for a Zombie movie. Return is great too, but regardless Day is still a quality zombie film. dubq 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 Shanghai Kid, all of your "points" about Day are absolutely ridiculous. And, NoCal, I agree, the makeup in Day was amazing. I also really liked the makeup job that was done in the 91 remake of NOTLD.
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 (edited) speaking of that, which one do you guys preffer, NOTLD 68 or NOTLD 90? i like the remake better, the original is still great but i tought the remake had a better Barbara(the original was annoying!), Todd's performance as Ben was Better than the guy from the original and of course the effects and make up are awesome. One of the best remakes of a movie i've ever seen. Edited September 20, 2003 by eiker_ir
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 20, 2003 NOTLD '90 was a worthy remake, but I have to to go with NOTLD '68.
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 Just due to the gritty and real look of the original its no contest. And ain't this some shit I just opened my copy while typing this to find I two copies of the bonus materials disc . Well Bestbuy again tomarrow I guess. Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 All your points as to why Day didn't have likeable characters can be described for the story in DAWN, and that still had likeable characters. How are my points ridiculous? I can't have an opinion? I just think it's a HUGE stepdown from Night and Dawn, so do most of the hardcore fans I talk too. And for whatever it's worth, Ebert gave it * after giving Dawn ****. Go over to IMDB, or a horror website, and find out how most hardcore fans think about it when comparing it to the rest of the trilogy. ROTLD kicks it's ass. eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 "All your points as to why Day didn't have likeable characters can be described for the story in DAWN, and that still had likeable characters. " not really, in Dawn, the zombie invation is fairly recent, just beggining. You can even see soldiers and people having a blast shooting at zombies and having a few beers. Day takes places months(or years, who knows) after Dawn. and after so long i think people would start to get desperate and miserable.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 20, 2003 No one here denied that Night and Dawn were better...well ok one said Day is his personal favorite of the trilogy. It's undeniably true, but that doesn't mean Day is total shit.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 buy this now!!! no. I'm with Shanghai, except I liked the makeup. The underground base and the fencing the zombies out were great ideas, but the execution was all wrong
Shanghai Kid 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2003 I'm not saying the movie was shit, I just don't see why anybody would think it's a 'good' movie. What's the entertainment value in it? And no, I'm not some mainstream guy, I've seen more low budget horror movies than any man should. Dawn>Night>Return>Return 2>Dead Alive>Night '90>>>>>>>>>>>>Day Now a real MUST OWN DVD right now is They Live.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 22, 2003 (edited) I find entertainment in dark and depressing movies. I can also find entertainment with characters consisting of little or no redeeming qualities, as long as such characters fit the movie in question. Am I to believe this is abnormal... I happen to like both of these movies, but Dead Alive and Return 2 shouldn't even be on the top ten of zombie films. Other than the final bloodbath and kung-fu Preist, Dead Alive really isn't THAT good. Return flirted with it, but Return 2 was too comedic and tongue in cheek for me to include it on a top ten list. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 24, 2003 I finally watched it and I must say... The picture quality is excellent. This has to be the best it's looked since it's first showing in theaters and may look better than it ever has.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted September 24, 2003 I can't believe how bad some people are seriously hating on Day. It by far is one of the best zombie films of all time. The effects are AMAZING and the movie totally stands on it's own. Granted that NOTLD 68 AND Dawn are better but it is hands above the rest as far as I'm concerned. Day is still better than 90% of the zombie films ever made though.....
