Condums stop spirits...

Females in tribes in Kenya and other African nations are finally rebelling at the ancient custom of requiring a newly widowed woman to pay to have sex with the village's "cleanser" to purify her soul sufficiently to be allowed to attend her husband's funeral, according to an August Washington Post dispatch. Said one particularly vulgar, besotted cleanser in Gangre, "It's not bad for me since I get to be with the beautiful ladies. The women like it because who else would be with them. They can't stay alone with the spirits. They need me." Cleansers are believed to be major HIV conveyers since a condom would not allow the spirits to pass.

How does one become a cleansor?

Not wearing a condom is apparantly how you begin...

Remember they also believe sex with a virgin cures AIDS, from what I heard

Well it is backed up by years of voodoo, sacrifices, and tribal dances.

Why do I think our 15 billion dollars ain't gonna do shit to stop AIDS/HIV, in Africa? But, just enrich a few African leaders and some humanitarian organizations.

Well, yeah, a common practice in South African tribes for an AIDS cure is to have sex with a virgin. Not only does this result in skyrocketing rape statistics, but it also leads to the rise of incest, as many men will have sex with their daughters to "cure" themselves.

I need to find Wrath of GOOD GAWD's post from WDI about AIDs in South Africa. He lives there, and it was a REAL eye opener.

They should count their blessings, they just have to have sex. Compare that to the ancient Indian (as in from India) of suttee. According to that rich Indian widows had to join their husbands of the funeral pyre alive. The British put a stop to it in the 1840's and their ban on suttee was a major reasoning behind the Indian Mutiny of the mid 1850's.
