Quick question about Misawa.

In what match, against what opponent, and under what circumstances did he bust out the first ever TD'91?

I'm wondering what kind of situation would warrant such a move.

In 1991 vs Akira Taue. The move was done by accident. Taue never would fully tuck his torso in all the way and usually came dangerously close to falling on his head, in that match he finally did fall on his head.

The announcers played it up huge and it became Misawa's be all end all finisher until 1997

Actually I was watching my Best Of Japan 2002 Set, and he busts out Emerald Frosion against Chono (i think), on the ramp, and it looks suitably killer

That Akira Taue, always a wacky one.

So how many times has he actually hit the TD91?

Well, he went from using it once every three years to doing it more commonly as the headdropping became more common. It almost became a regular move when he faced Kobashi...

So the Emerald Fusion is MORE devastating (in kayfabe terms) than the TD'91?

Misawa debuted the move against Kobashi in 1991, and it wasn't an accident. He didn't use it again until 6/3/94.

Taue/Misawa 1/26/91 is the match with the infamous spot. I have yet to see it, so I have no clue if the Vertical Drop was intentional or not. And yes, around that time frame it seems that Taue did experience some difficutly in safely taking the Tiger Driver from time to time, see 4/21/91 where Taue waits to the very last second to tuck his head in.

He even took Kawada's Powerbomb at an unusual high angle on a few occasions back than too.

Still, intentional or not the Taue bump at 1/26/91 does predate the Kobashi match.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but can someone tell me: which is the more powerfull move, the TD'91 or the Emerald Fusion?

The Emerald Frozion is more powerfull. Nobody (as far as I know) has ever kicked out of it, whereas Kobashi has kicked out of TD '91 a few times

Not true. in fact, going over the ending part of the most recent Kobashi-Misawa, Kobashi DOES kick out of the emerald flosion. Granted, he's the only person thus far to kick, he HAS kicked. Although I must admit, the Emerald Flosion, kayfabewise, looks far more devestating.

I mean, I'm going off memory, but I remember that being what went down. And to be honest, I didnt even think he could kick out if it. I thought the obly person that MAYBE could would be Hansen, but I think the move came after the Texan's last run. Not sure.

Thanks for the info, I haven't seen that particular Misawa vs Kobashi yet, so I wasn't aware of the spot.

Hansen? please tell me that your joking. Hasen wasn't even in the condition to take a German suplex or Tiger driver back in 1992 when Misawa first won the Triple Crown from him. Misawa went over with a simple elbow. There is no way Hansen can even take an Emerald Frozion, let alone kick out of it.
