AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 The RIAA will now notify music copyright violators before suing. http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_...tent_id=1990004 IMO, this is better for music downloaders, because not only do they have a 1 in one million chance of getting caught, they now have the added bonus of if they get caught they are notified in advance instead of just being sued outright. Perhaps this means one could clear out their library upon notification or face suing.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 I cleared the songs off my computer a long time ago. Although I may still do a random download.
Guest BDC Report post Posted October 2, 2003 Yes, because it just makes so much more sense to file suit off-hand, right? Didn't they file a suit against someone that couldn't even use Kazaa for using it?

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2003 I still interpreted the lawsuits and the detection of file-sharing as that as long as after you download a file, as long as you clear it out of your, "files to share" folder you would be fine. I thought it was the sharing folder that the RIAA was looking at.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted October 2, 2003 Bainwol also said "lawsuits could be avoided" if operators of P2P networks took certain steps, such using available technology to filter and block such activity; and changing default settings so users cannot unknowingly upload material. So it would be ok as long as they stop the illegal uses. They say that like it's possible to JUST block out illegal sharing. Besides what exactly do they consider to be legal sharing? Unless they mean labels and artists who don't associate themselves with the RIAA, since I'm sure they don't give a shit about them So people who have downloaded Kazaa and other programs can unknowingly download illegal material? :gasps: Those monsters!
