Goodbye Vin Diesel... Hello Ice Cube...

Recommended Posts

The only two times I've even been able to TOLERATE Vin Diesel were in Pitch Black and Saving Private Ryan.

He's my least favorite leading actor, in all of Hollywood.

Although I must say between this and "Con Air" Jon Malkovich is one of my favorite bad-guy actors...

Don't forget his turn as Teddy KGB in Rounders. Wonderfully over the top.

A Man Apart would have been vastly better if it had ended one scene earlier. The slow-mo shot of Vin walking through that street in Mexico or wherever after busting the bad guy (forget who it was!!) was the ending. That emotional bullshit in the last scene fucked it, and I nearly spewed when they did the close up of the slow-mo American flag in the wind in that scene. Awful.

Vin's star is on the decline, it seems. The combined suck of Knockaround Guys and A Man Apart (both of which were flops along with sucking whereas XXX at least had the decency to make money) are going to make it hard to rebound.

By the way, Cary Hirouki-Tagawa is too good for that...

Your brother's soul is mine! YOU will be next!

Oh, sorry.

You know, I am distraught that noone has stepped up to take the "generic Asian villain" mantle from Hirouki-Tagawa...

They were made before XXX, and Knockaround Guys was done even before Fast and the Furious. They were pretty much thrown out to cash in on his newfound success. It's not like he went from hit film to doing a flop. They were already in the can.

Am I incorrect in assuming that he knows absolutlely not one bit of anything resembling a martial art yet is cast in all these martial arts movies.

From his IMDB bio:

He has also been coaching the martial artist portraying Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat Live Tour, and in his free time, developing his new form of Martial Arts, called "Chun Shin."

So I'm assuming he knows a thing or two.

Yeah but they were released afterwards. So 90% of the public doesn't care about that.
