What 10 guys would you build WWE around?

Recommended Posts

5. Ric Flair - best manager around

I love Flair, but putting a manager on a list of 10 people to build the company around is ridiculous.

Flair manages but he also can put on good matches, has a mind and passion for the business, and is big enough name that the marks can recognize and buy as a threat if need be.

Well, yes, I'm pretty sure that we all expected Goldberg and Shawn Michaels VS Mark Henry and Rodney Mack for next week on Raw.

The 10 guys that I would build the WWE around are:

Kurt Angle

Chris Benoit

Eddie Guerrero

John Cena

Rob Van Dam

Chris Jericho

Rey Mysterio, Jnr.

The World's Greatest Tag Team (just classing the team as 1)

Randy Orton

There are many other honourable mentions, such as Tajiri, Billy Kidman and Maven among others. Some of these guys are veterans, others are young up-and-coming superstars. But they all have great ability.

Wow- Ray and I actually AGREE on something

Damn, that's scary.

Whoa! I just notice this:

Before I began, I'd try and build up people as only faces or heels. No tweener or shades of grey characters. That's poison.

Yeah, because that whole Stone Cold Steve Austin thing was a DISASTER.

My list:

THE ROCK

Let's pretend for a moment he was still wrestling full time. How can you not pick him first? He's still the biggest star they have. Easily the man I'd take first...if he wasn't doing all that acting. Maybe I can blackmail him somehow to make him stay. ;)

CHRIS JERICHO

Still over even after repeated burials. Best talent on Raw at the moment...why is he not on every list?

BROCK LESNAR

Enormous physical charisma; young; in great shape; fast, strong, agile; has decent matches with BIG SHOW. Don't see why anyone would not choose him.

EDDIE GUERRERO

Best wrestler in WWE. Need someone to go after the latino market.

JAMIE NOBLE

Should be the top heel in your cruiserweight division. Criminally underused by WWE.

SPANKY

Conversely, should be the top face in your cruiser division.

MATT HARDY

Solid high mid-card talent. The guy who carries your US/IC title division.

CHARLIE HAAS/SHELTON BENJAMIN

Need a tag team. Los Guerreros are better, but Eddie's a singles wrestler.

JOHN CENA

Bleh in the ring, but he's marketable.

EDGE

Young...marketable look...appeals to the female fans.

The key to having a successful company is not having great wrestlers...it's making money. You need people who are marketable/draw money.

Yeah, because that whole Stone Cold Steve Austin thing was a DISASTER.

Steve Austin didn't actually start catering to the fans until after his first world title win. Just because he acted like a heel but got cheered doesn't mean he was playing a tweener.

I think of tweener as Benoit/Angle from SD 6. They were never really faces or heels because they had tendencies of both. I only see tweeners working in well booked three way feuds.

If you consider Austin a tweener, then no being a tweener isn't bad. However, I'm talking about tweener as in switching alignments constantly like Matt Hardy said he would like to do.

As for the people who ask why wouldn't someone build a fed around Lesnar?

Simple. He's had bad buyrates and ratings. Those are concrete and not up for discussion like the severity of injuries or skill.

I'm sorry I'm not a Matt Hardy fanboy but he's really nothing special other than having a cool gimmick.

And yet you have *Kane* on your list.

Because Kane is being used. When was the last time Matt Hardy had a legitimate pay-per-view match? Backlash?

I never said Kane was any better than Matt Hardy, that's ludicrous. But Kane is given failed push after failed push yet the fans still seem to care. Without Jeff, Matt is doomed to matches with no heat, saved only by a comedy gimmick that appeases the smarks (something that apparently is very tough to accomplish).

The idea of this post was to decide the best 10 workers to build your company around. If you're a clueless mark, are you going to be buying a Kane t-shirt or a Matt Hardy t-shirt? Would you like to see a 3-legged debacle between Matt Hardy and Zach Gowen or a bumpfest between Kane and Shane McMahon? No, I'm not asking for your biased smark opinion. If you're that fat hoosier in the Brock Lesnar t-shirt, what would YOU want to see?

I'm just gonna pick ten people...I don't know if there are "rules" or whatnot...

No order:

1. Shelton Benjamin

2. Chris Sabin

3. Chris Jericho

4. Eddy Guerrero

5. Trish Stratus

6. Brock Lesnar

7. AJ Styles

8. RVD

9. Paul London

10.Kurt Angle (even if he only has a few years left...he's just gotta be.)

I didn't pick Benoit for the same reason I wasn't going to pick Angle...and I can't get as much out of Benoit as I can Angle.

And since no one else will take him...I'll take The Truth with my #11 pick and make him THE midcard superstar.

Randy Orton- I'd keep him paired up with Flair and try and create more chemistry between them

You can create chemistry?

I thought it was or it wasn't, no synthetic chemistry exists.

Here's my ten guys in no particultar order.

1. Chris Jericho

2. Paul London

3. Rey Mysterio

4. John Cena

5. Spanky

6. Matt Hardy

7. Brock Lesnar

8. Angle

9. Eddie Guerrero

10. Chris Benoit

10 is not enough, IMO, because there are still guys like TWGTT, Ultimo Dragon, Randy Orton, Sean O' Haire, and tons of others who i would rotate with some of these guys.

1. Chris Jericho- Build him up like Shawn Michaels, has to be a cocky heel with his talent backing up his mouth.

2. Chris Benoit- He still has it, so why not give him the final massive push? He would be the Bret Hart to Jericho's Shawn Michaels.

3. Brock Lesnar- They need a monster, book him as the ultimate badass heel.

4. Edge- He has it all, as said before...he is the future.

5. Christian- He needs to be booked right, toss the IC belt on him and have him keep it for at least 7 months. Soon after put him into the main event.

6. Eddy Guerrero- He connects with the fans so well, has all the talent in the world...is just begging for a sustained push.

7. Spanky- He is the mid-card hero, why not book him like Razor Ramon was? This man needs a push already!

8. John Cena- I think he could be versitiale with his gimmicks. You're looking at a huge future star.

9. Charlie Haas- Pure wrestler, should stay with Shelton for a few years still...build up the tag team division. I'm saying like 7 good teams.

10. Randy Orton- Has the look, charisma and skills to get over. Put him with a valet and he has it all.

Others-

TJ Wilson- Stampede Wrestling, this guy is amazing. Future star for sure.

Harry Smith- Same as TJ, watch for him in the future.

Jamie Noble- He has the talent to go anywhere with his career, just needs a push.

Lance Storm- I like the idea of building him up like Mr.Perfect, he is charismatic in his own way, and it works.

Kurt Angle- He should be the foreman for the new generation, as soon as it catches momentum, step into the shadows and retire.

1) Goldberg:

The man has a superstar aura. You could easily build a company around a guy like Goldberg.

2) Brock Lesnar:

Goldberg Vs Lesnar = $$$$$$

3) Eddie Guerrero:

He's the man of the hour right now. They are pitching him curveballs, yet he's still knocking them out of the park.

4) Tajiri:

Tajiri has a lot more charisma than he's allowed to really express. If someone took advantage of that, he could be a big star.

5) Rey Misterio Jr:

Rey connects with the audience like a main event level player. The merchandising money wouldn't hurt either.

6) RVD:

After all of the shit this man has went through, he's still one of the most over faces on Raw. That a guy you keep.

7) HHH:

A contraversial pick, but if booked well as a heel, he has proven to be able to do pretty good business. Although he is injury prone, he's an incredibly hard worker and has outlasted Steve Austin, The Rock, and Mick Foley out of sheer passion for the wrestling business and the desire to become the greatest of all time. He's not even close to being the greatest, but he's definitely a guy you would want on your team.

8) Kurt Angle:

He's Kurt freaking Angle damn it!

9) Chris Jericho:

Like Guerrero, he a great all around commodity.

10) Orlando Jordan:

I know many of you might be saying "You must be retarded Hulkster", but hear me out. The man is young, he throws some nice looking punches, he's got a lot of untapped charisma, he's well built, he's got the fundamentals down, etc, etc, etc. This is a guy that many have overlooked, but he has more potential than a lot of people give him credit for.

10. Randy Orton- Has (...) the charisma and skills to get over.

And yet he chooses to hide this for some unknown reason.

John Cena

Edge

Eddie Guerrero

Chris Jericho

Brock Lesnar

Trish Stratus

Rob Van Dam

WGTT (Charlie and Shelton, Shelton and Charlie, whichever way you prefer it)

If I could pick 15, the other five I add would be Hurricane, Kane, Christian, Victoria and Rey Mysterio.

How does Charlie Haas who lacks the talent of Shelton Benjamin, keep coming in ahead of him on people's lists?

Haas is white

That's a good question. I personally put both of them on my list, but clearly said that Benjamin was ahead of Haas, and it's true. His in-ring and mic skills are superior to Haas'. No disrespect for Charlie though, because he's still great.

A-Train: If I built a fed I would keep the amount of monsters to maybe one or two, and with Rhyno still being a little rusty, A gets my pick

Shannon Moore: Go for the 3 count gimmick again

Matt Hardy: One of the most solid utility players and has worked damn hard

Kanyon: So much could be done that it makes me cry that they haven't

John Cena: Speaks for itself

Doug Bashem: A great worker when cut loose

Kane: A little old maybe but if the put him over Nudertaker at WWMXX maybe could be salvaged

Spanky and London: could be the closest thing to a new Rockers/Hardys

Trish: Any attempt at a womens division needs her
