I mean seriously what kind of message does it send to all the other players on the team? That you can do things like this and not get into any major trouble?

Basically they were walking by each other and the Nebraska player just forearmed him as he walked by.

Too bad the kid wasn't Middle Eastern or else the I-thought-he-was-a-terrorist defense might have worked...

While it may be a stupid tradition, it is commonplace for fans to charge the field if their team scores a major upset at home. SO if you are on the road and are the ones being upset, you should expect people to be on the field. The kid wasn't running towards him, he was running past him, and the NU guy just sucker punched him. I also think Solich made himself out to be a complete ass during his press conference. Solich: "Well, after reviewing the tape (insert player's name) didn't go searching out anyone." Good rationalization, assfuck. Yeah, he didn't search the field for someone. He just saw someone was close and took a cheap shot, makes it much less of a crime. I would have suspended the kid for the rest of the season.

There are plenty of pileups during a game to get in extra shots. Don't wait until it is just you on top of him, with no shielding, to pull something like that.
Gert T Posted October 16, 2003 Report Posted October 16, 2003 Not that this would be easy, but I would like to see security try to keep fans off of the field until the visiting team has left the field, it seems like they did that during the OSU-Wisconsin game. I may be wrong, and obviously it is not easy for the crowd to be refrained, but that may be a good practice.

So you ACCIDENTALLY punched a guy who was coming towards you? He can't even claim the Kermit Washington-Rudy T "He came up behind me" defense. If you look at Nebraska's history, the light suspension shouldn't surprise anyone. Christian Peter was basically running wild on the Lincoln campus, getting drunk and assaulting women and nothing really happened to him. Then there was Lawrence Phillips. Hell, Eric Crouch or Tommie Frazier probably could have killed someone and gotten away with it because they were superstars.

FUCK that bullshit. If I was running OSU and Reynolds had done that, he'd be kicked off the team THAT SUNDAY. All this "in the heat of the moment" shit goes out the fucking door when you do some foul shit like that. I have no love whatsoever for Nebraska, but fuck this "one or two games suspension" shit. That right there shows that OSU's coach and the Big Ten are a bunch of gutless fucking pussies.
