The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Hey... Why can the old Bif return to the same version of Hilldale that he left from AFTER delivering the book? That's impossible...as he should only be able to arrive at the version where he is rich...

Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 He gets the idea after Biff's mechanic from 1955 mentions that he wished he could go back in time and bet on the Cubs. It was implied that it was a huge upset and Chicago's first WS win since 1908.
JangoFett4Hire 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 Marty McFly: 'Cubs win world series against Miami'? Old Terry: Yeah. Who would've thought? 100 to 1 shot! I wish I could go back to the beginning of the season, put some money on the Cubs. Marty McFly: I just meant Miami-...what did you just say? Old Terry: I said I wish I could go back to the beginning of the season, put some money on the Cubbies!

Guest Putty Report post Posted October 17, 2003 Why can the old Bif return to the same version of Hilldale that he left from AFTER delivering the book? Immediately after he returns he collapses, and it's assumed he has a heart attack due to delivering the book to 1955, thereby negating his existance. But if you watch the deleted scenes on the DVD of BTTF II you'd see that Old Biff is actually shown fading from existance, and they cut that from the final film. Same principal, but Zemeckis said the effect of him fading out would confuse audiences, so they cut the scene early to show him just gasping for air. Don't worry, if I wouldn't have heard that I wouldn't have understood what happened to him either.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 That's fine and all... but its still impossible for him to take the delorian back to that time and place as soon as he drops off the book.
Guest Putty Report post Posted October 17, 2003 That's fine and all... but its still impossible for him to take the delorian back to that time and place as soon as he drops off the book. Not really, because like the director said, everything changed around Doc and Marty when time was altered as a result of Old Biff giving the almanac to 1955 Biff. So 2015 still existed, but there were minor differences, most of which wouldn't have been noticable because Doc and Marty left at night. For instance, Zemeckis says in the director commentary that alternate-1985's Biff was shot by Lorraine around 1990, explaining why he wouldn't exist in 2015 in any form. And when Biff dies/fades out it couldn't have been more than 10 seconds after he arrived back in 2015 - *AND* you have to take into account that 1955 Biff may have not considered using the almanac for profit yet until 10 seconds after Old Biff left him, explaining why he got to stick around 10 seconds after returning. Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 If Doc was put in a mental ward after Biff brought the book back and got all rich, who built the time machine that Marty was still using.

sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 If Doc was put in a mental ward after Biff brought the book back and got all rich, who built the time machine that Marty was still using. Since the time machine already existed in the "normal" 1985/2015, its existence wouldn't have been affected by Biff's delivering of the book. If the "alternate" 1985 (where Biff is rich) would have existed all along, then no time machine would have ever been built. But since that 1985 was not the "original" (or "normal") 1985, and was in fact created only by events that happened after the invention of the time machine, then the time machine MUST still exist, even though Doc Brown is locked away in the "alternate" 1985. Otherwise, the space/time continuum would probably collapse and nothing would exist. Or something. Does what I'm trying to say make ANY sense? I'm not sure it does.... Guest Jack Tunney Report post Posted October 19, 2003 The thing is, even if you could go back in time there's no way you could change the past. The past already happened,so anything you did when you went back in time will have already happened. So if you went back and tried to stop JFK from being shot you'd be pre-destined to fail. sorry to go off-topic but I just felt like saying that. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 I like the Langoliers theory. It is so much simpler. You can't go back to change events in the past, because there is no past.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 I always thought that if time travel was possible, then we'd be visited constantly from people in a distant future where time travel has been discovered. Bah. I remember an episode on FOX's "Alien Nation" where Francisco's partner is telling him some of the greatest baseball teams of all time -- the 1994 (give or take a year) PIRATES were mentioned.... The great tragedy of the '94 strike. There's little doubt in my mind that the Pirates would've finished 43-5 and won 101 games that year. Al Martin would've become the new Barry Bonds, and earned four new wives in the process.
