Hogan vs. Chono

Recommended Posts

I guess this would be for everyone that saw the recent matchup of Hogan vs. Chono. I heard it was a solid match(probably not above ***1/2) but I was curious as to what the people that saw it thought.

thanks

so was it pretty much rock/hogan in terms of just being a super hot match covering for a basic match?

I found it to be better than Hogan/Rock, however it all depends on whether or not you're a fan of either individual involved or the storyline surrounding the match.

Much like Hogan/Rock, the heat for this match was off the page and was really the defining element of the match. Hogan seriously busted ass though.

It should be noted that Hogan busting ass is identical to, say, anyone else just half assing it, but what can you expect from a 50 year old man and a broken down, 40 year old Chono?

Good for what it was, a big one-off dream match.

From the other Hogan thread in here...

Well, I just finished watching the Hulk Hogan Vs. Masahiro Chono, and I loved it.

Then again, as you all know, I'm the worlds biggest Hulk Hogan mark. It was great seeing Hogan in there with Massa "My Hero" Chono, and if you followed the nWo/NJPW angle you remember that one. I dunno, it just felt really good, the match and all.

Of course it was a Hulk Hogan match, so it wasn't no Flair/Steamboat or anything, but still, it was classic Hogan, and he DID have his working boots on.

If any of you care enough to watch it also, I can send it to you over AIM if you want.

Did I mention how I love Hulk Hogan?  :D

...so there you go.

If you want to watch it, you can download it at theSLEDGEHAMMER forums.

Just watched it and I thought it was really good. The heat was off the charts and Hogan seriously busted ass like everyone said. I like The Rock match better, but this was still good. I'd go 2 3/4 or maybe 3*.

Aiight, I've seen it now, and I'd go ** 1/2, which is still more than I expected from the two. The crowd going nuts for the Axe Bomber on Chono who was on the apron was great and really shows how different puro crowds and US wrestling crowds are.

Meltzer gave Vince/Steph a better rating than this. People complain about Keith, but I don't really hear alot of complaining about Meltzer's match ratings.

If Scott Keith gave Rock/Hogan from WM X-8 ** just for the crowd going crazy for 18 minutes, how does this match qualify for less?

Oy... since when do "that idiot SKeith"s ratings count for anything? ;)

I haven't seen all of the Chono-Hogan match, but I would certainly rate it higher than Vince-Steph

I would have loved to seen that match because Hogan is still able to work and not matter how busted up some people might say Chono is he too is still good enough to go with just about anyone. I mean come on, we know what Hogan's done in this buisness. WWE, WCW, IWGP Champion.. Chono is a champion all over Japan, and former NWA Champion so this was like a clashing of icons here. The American Icon in Hogan and the Japan Icon in Chono. Considering in my opinion the best Chono match was him and Muta for the NWA Title in 93 during WCW's Japan Supershow 3 and Hogan's was possibly with Flair in 94 for the WCW Title..

It was an OK match. Overall- 7/10. The match quality wasn't good at all. The crowd was hot, and Hogan should just retire. That was probaly bitterness for ruining Vader and Flair in WCW, and bringing all of his friends in. The Lightweight Battle Royal: 4 1/2 Stars.
