TNA bits from the Observer

Sting may no longer care for the business (which is possible), but when he is contracted to wrestle he does all he can in the match for the people who paid to see the show.

Plus I felt the Sting/Flair match was decent enough considering Sting hadn't wrestled in awhile.

I don't think I would have that much of a problem with the Styles going down to the X division if it weren't that so far, the X title feels like a lesser title than the World's. In the beginning, it was that both were equal, but I just don't feel the same way. Maybe it's because they're almost jerking the curtain recently. I guess though that's why Styles is going back. And I can't complain about some of the matches that we're gonna see.

TNA has that old school WWF attitude "everyone is a superstar that can win the belt" mix going on. Granted, you never believe it but they have set it up so the X division guys can still go for the World title.

Styles could easily help the X division come back while the main event scene is used to secure a tv deal. This actually seems rather smart.

"...the fact that Dusty Rhodes is a top contender to the NWA Title..."

I disagree. Rhodes was NEVER pushed as a "top contender."

The whole point of the angle was that he wasn't supposed to get that shot, and the only reason he got it was because Dusty has been playing mind games with Styles for weeks now, as a mentor type figure, trying to get him to turn face and leave Russo.

Styles gave Dusty the shot, just so he could get his hands on him. Russo forbid Styles to do this, sewing the seeds of dissention between Styles and Russo, which paid off this past week when Jarrett attacked Russo, and Styles wouldn't save him.

In a way, it showed that Dusty's mind games were working, since Russo could no longer control his puppet. They played this angle out great, even going so far as to have Russo always carrying the belt, and wearing it himself...and when Dusty started screwing with AJ's head, Styles started carrying the belt himself.

Dusty HIMSELF said that he didn't deserve the shot...but if Styles was offering, he'd take it. This made Jarrett angry, which caused him to go on his whole "all veterans are selfish and out just for themselves speech" which then led into the attack on Hogan.

Jarrett explained this past week that it was Dusty taking the match Styles offered him that made him realize that he had to attack Hogan.

It was all planned out in advance, and sold perfectly by Styles, Russo, Rhodes and Jarrett, and put over by Tenay and West.

You see, I know all this because I actually watch the show. I don't make judgements on something I've never seen, from something I saw on the net.

I'm funny like that.

I do watch the show, and like the angle, but they could have had Rhodes turn down the match, and make him wrestle another face. A face, that, you know, hasn't retired yet. It would continue the mind games, and perhaps a good match would result.

No they couldn't.

That moment where Rhodes took the title shot was THE catalyst for Jarrett attacking Hogan.

It's one of those things that made more sense in the grand sceme of things than it did on the surface.

-Latest on the 11/30 ppv is that the working idea now is to do it from the Nashville Fairgrounds. The reason is that it's cheaper and they only have to fill up 1300 seats. Hogan is against doing it in such a small venue. The company has had talks with The Orleans in Las Vegas, which has a 7000 seat arena, but nothing is concrete yet. The Nashville Auditorium which houses 9000 has also been talked about.

Why not the arena they held their Week 4 show in? Paper the crowd if you must, but I'm sure promoting Hogan at the top of the card would bring in some old-school fans.

-The only other match talked about for 11/30 is doing a second Ultimate X match involving AJ Styles, Michael Shane, and Chris Sabin. The idea is after Styles loses the NWA title to Jarrett on 10/22, barring changes, he'll be made into the star of the X division to give it more marquee power.

How's he going to give the X-Division more marquee power when he's been booked as a joke that can't even beat a slow-moving, injured, retired, overweight, unathletic old man single-handedly?

-The storyline they are working on for Hogan besides playing off of Bash at the Beach 2000 is that he is coming back for his childhood dream of winning the NWA title, the biggest major title he has never held.

Not too shabby. Won't draw much, but it's a solid reason.

-They are hoping to get Sting and Piper on the show, but neither deal is finalized and Randy Savage has been seriously talked about but since he has heat with Hogan, it doesn't stand much of a chance.

As long as Piper doesn't wrestle, and Sting is in a tag match involving three superior workers, no problems here. No Savage, though. He'd do nothing but rap and punch women...

-There was more Dutch Mantel influence on the show this week. The 10/15 show is said to be the last show with Russo and Gilberti writing the original draft, which Mantel, Jarrett, and Scott D'Amore then edit. Starting 10/22, Mantel is supposed to be the main writer with Jarrett as his editor.

Get Jarrett off the booking committee ASAP. He's not over, he's not a draw, and he's only tolerable as a heel. Sure, he's becoming a heel again, but it's about 4 months too late to really capitalize on it. He's not as bad a politician as Hunter is and Hogan was, but he's not doing the company ANY favors by making sure the show features him in a good light.

As for Mantel...if last week is what we can come to expect, I'm welcoming him with open arms. The angles all made sense, the matches were all watchable, and I'm actually INTERESTED in next week's show.
