Styles 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 I keep seeing the commericals for Backyard Wrestling with ICP but I haven't heard much about it. Anyone play it? Any thoughts or reviews? Is it worth a rental?
El Gigante 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 My friend got it last weekend and beat it in about 2 hours. After we fought in every level there was nothing else left to do. The gameplay isn't as bad as you would expect and its a fun little game. So, if your looking for something to kill a couple hours I would say give it a rental. Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Haven't played it, but seeing the pictures and commercials makes me think it's just Tekken with a lot more "Kings".
El Gigante 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Exactly. Its pretty much a fighting game with wresting moves mixed in.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Have you ever played a game like Powerstone or the such? If so, then you'll know exactly what to expect from this game, just with wrestlers. This is NOT a wrestling game, so don't think that it is. It's a one on one brawler, with a wrestling outer layer. I think that it's a pretty good multiplayer game, but that's about it. DangerousDamon 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2003 so if it's a fighting game with a wrestling game outer layer, do u pin opponents or do u just beat them up till their energy runs out.

Guest Frank The Tank Report post Posted October 19, 2003 I thought this was a really fun game, go lots of enjoyment out of me and I marked when I saw The Rude Boy and Evil Dead from JCW.

Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Some Dreamcast fighter. Anyway, nearly half of the copies sold by my store have been returned within a few days. How's that for user reviews?
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Ok, about Powerstone since some of you don't get what I'm saying. Think of a game where it's a one on one fighting game, and you can move around the stage which is one big area, climb up ladders, etc... and you can interact with all of the items to use as weapons, and stuff like that. I don't know what else to say. I'd give BYW 6/10 if you are.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 (edited) "Some Dreamcast game..." That flippant ignorance and writing off...argh... Power Stone kicks ass. However, since I have both games I think it's pointless to get some inferior knockoff with duller moves, lame characters, and shitty music from ICP likely stuffed into it. I doubt fights will start on a flying ship, transition from that to a fight in the air, then from there on top of a sub, ending on an iceberg. You can climb into huge gun turrets and blast your opponents with the cannons, throw crates, slash with swords, blast with guns--then of course there are the supers... The two games are actually vastly different, with 2 being a bit more simplistic, more multiplayer oriented, with the huge fighting areas with multiple sections you move through. 1 is more traditional, taking place in closed rooms for the most part, or basically on single screens. They're tied together due to the necessity to collect the "power stones" to get more powerful and do super moves. Anyway, nearly half of the copies sold by my store have been returned within a few days. How's that for user reviews? Powerstone Power Stone 2 Of course, there are also the high scores I've seen magazines giving out. An original fighter? *Gasp...* The second one is admittedly more in the vein of Smash Bros., but hey, also a good game. JHawk 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Anyway, nearly half of the copies sold by my store have been returned within a few days. How's that for user reviews? You guys allow for returns on opened video games? We don't do that at Circuit City.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Because wherever Nevermortal works > Circuit City. FUCK Circuit City. Ah, Powerstone sounds somewhat similar to Ehrgeiz (a highly underrated figher, IMO).
Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Power Stone 2 is the fucking shit, and with four players it's almost as fun as Smash Bros Melee. Backdoor Wrestling could be more fun had it allowed for four people, and didn't have ICP in the game. Or Mad Man Pondo in it. Or on the cover. ::Wonders to self how the FUCK Pondo makes it into a video game before self does::
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 I work at Gamestop. Basically, because fucktards buy Backyard Wrestling new, they can't return it, and thus have to just bring it back so we can give them half of what they paid, in store credit only. Want cash? They get less than half. We rule. And yes, Powerstone, it was some dreamcast game. I had to put the cover art in the copies this weekend, I would know. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 (edited) Yeah--you Gamestop fucks are fucking thieves. On 99.999999999% of trade-ins Gamestop fucks you over. Trade in something used in pretty good condition that could sell for 15 or so...you get 7, 8, 5? "Uh..here's $1.50 in store credit and a piece of lint. Have a nice day!" You trade something in and then they put it on the shelves for seven times as much. That's why I sell online. Don't ever bother with tradestop.com by the way, they're even worse. Of course, anyone who buys a game with certain logos on the box (Acclaim, any EA wrestling game, etc) and is shocked when it sucks is either stupid, stubborn, or new to gaming. So generally I don't have much sympathy in those cases. Ah, Powerstone sounds somewhat similar to Ehrgeiz (a highly underrated figher, IMO). I don't like Ehrgeiz, a.k.a. The Game Formerly Known As Ehrgeiz But Just Call it Final Fantasy VII The Fighter Made by Shameless Fucking Corporate Whores Squaresoft. It's not very similar at all, but then again I didn't have instructions for Ehrgeiz. Edited October 20, 2003 by AndrewTS

You can bring them back in 7 days if you don't like it, most of the discounts are on used items, and we have more used stock than new usually (not around the Holidays since people will be buying the hottest games new). AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 Well, that's how we make most of our money. The new games aren't much profit for us, which is why we encourage you to buy used. 90% of my games or more are used, easily. So that's just fine. However, I have a certain level of resentment for the bastards who lose/throw away boxes and instructions. Many of those places have some big fucking balls to ask exorbinant prices for a game that's hard to find, but the only one they have in stock is a scratched up disk with no instructions or inserts or anything. You can bring them back in 7 days if you don't like it The closest Gamestop is 30 miles away. So while I go around the area and shop, it really isn't such a long time when I just looked around the same area and probably if I come back I'd have just driven 60 miles to make a return. However, I never heard this policy mentioned. EB is similar--they even blatantly ripped off Gamestop's discount card policy (10% off with a shitty propaganda mag). However, you have 14 days to take a game back...if you don't break the sticker they put on the casing of the game. Thankfully, most of them only think to put it on the ends, and not on the hinges of jewel cases for CDs. So you can open them and play the game, and if you put it back and snap the hinges back on, no one is the wiser. One EB a distance away from me knew to put stickers on the hinges, though. Eh...whatever. I wasn't coming back anyway. most of the discounts are on used items, and we have more used stock than new usually (not around the Holidays since people will be buying the hottest games new). Then sometimes the prices on used stuff are jacked up. BTW: You play Asheron's Call? No.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 Oh, ok because you've got "Drudge Ravener" in your profile... Just a Gamefaqs poster pointing out that PS2 owners shouldn't bash X-Box, X-Box shouldn't bash the Cube, Cube owners shouldn't bash the PS2 etc. Instead, we should all come together, and stand united to hate that piece of shit the N-Gage.
