BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 They must have lost funding or something. The entire event was cancelled.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 Lost funding? Court Bauer's dad was the one dishing out the dough from what I'd heard.
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 Well usually when the fed cancels an event they are dead. What is MLW supposed to fill it's tv show with now? I bet it never returns.
Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 One event doesn't mean that an entire fed is dead. Circumstances can come up, shit happens. If the fed cancels all events for the foreseeable future and announces no shows in the immeidate future, then we can assume that MLW is dead. Until MLW does that, just assume a cancelled show. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 They cancelled the show Friday? Wow. Right when I start reviewing it too.
Guest OSIcon Report post Posted October 21, 2003 It is a BIG assumption to assume they are dead because of one canceled show. The reason for the cancelation will give a much better indication of how they are doing. The building they were running, have they held a show there before? The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 The site says they are rescheduling due to unforseen circumstances. What are they gonna put on TV?
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 You don't just cancel an event 3 days before it happens, especially for a promotion that is pretty big like this. This just isn't a small indy show. They were bringing in talent from Japan and Mexico. The guys from Japan have probably already began flying over for the show. I can't think of any other reason they would cancel it besides loss of funding.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 As I said, Court Bauer's dad was the major financial support. Unless sonny boy became the black sheep of the family this past week, I doubt it has anything to do with company funds.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted October 21, 2003 well, this was their first time in J-vile. Maybe its something to do with that. Oh, and BPS, your MLW review was good, so good I decided not to review them. (I wrote one but didn't bother to type it after yours) I guess I stick to my EWR MLW. (PLUG~!) PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 (edited) Really they canceled that event? Bad sign... well at least they didn't pull an EPIC and actually let people know before hand... so much for that bus trip eh? You can be the MLW reviewer if you want. With Xplosion, IWA and my TNA preview my hands are full. The worst part is all 4 things come within 4 days.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 My guess is they'll replay some older matches to help build their next show. Possibly showing the Steve Corino vs. Terry Funk Barbed Wire match and War Games again. Da Hit Squad vs. Samoan Island Tribe, Homicide vs. Jerry Lynn, NOSAWA vs. Raven, C.M. Punk vs. Vampiro, and C.M. Punk vs. Raven.

Guest Miss Indy Queen Report post Posted October 22, 2003 I highly doubt the Company is dead. As others has said, this is the first time they are running in Jacksonville so maybe ticket sales were low or something did happen that Court had to cancel the event. I can't see the company going under with the crowds they have had at their shows. I mean at War Games, the place was pretty damn packed for a friday night and was a great show overall. They have another show in November and their big one in December so I would start worrying then when they start to cancel those as well.
Guest OSIcon Report post Posted October 22, 2003 I don't think that they are dead yet or anything, but they certainly aren't doing well financially. I tend to doubt that their ticket sales are enough to cover bringing in all the wrestlers that they bring in (from elsewhere in the country and overseas) plus building rent. Ticket sales are there only revenue stream too. Well, only significant one. Their tape selling/merchandise is very unorganized, plus they are giving away all of those matches on free TV. I even think I read that they pay a weekly fee to have their show on the Sunshine network (which would make sense). Although there is a good chance that this cancelation didn't have anything to do with financial problems, MLW's business model is pretty weak and its only a matter of time before the well dries up. JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 I think the Global Tag Carnival in January will be a big sign since they plan on bringing in alot of Japanese talent. If MLW goes through with that show then we'll know it wasn't a financial situation or anything.
Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 It has to be financial. If it wasn't, I'm sure they'd go out of there way to let everyone know it's not their fault. If they got screwed by the building or insurance or an athletic commission, or something like that, I'm sure they'd be shouting it out so people didn't get pissed at them. Them saying "unforseen circumstances" is not good.
1234-5678 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 They reported over at the Torch that it was due to poor ticket sales. If they closed, that sucks balls cause it is one less place for the boys to find some work.
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2003 Keller just said the company is probably gone unless they can find new funding. There are no more events scheduled. Thats what you get for investing in a six sided ring.
Guest Markingout Report post Posted October 23, 2003 ^^^^^^^ LOL. Court said they called the show because of poor ticket sales, because it was a new area. Plus the Jacksonville scene is dead. No indies really run there. Oh well, I bet they cancel the November show in Dallas, for the Jacksonville show in NOV. Then continue schelede as is
