MrRant Posted October 24, 2003 Report Posted October 24, 2003 Myself and El Satanico were plotting on doing a sci-fi/horror site (mostly because of the similarities between the two and 25-50% of horror has sci fi in it and 25-50%of sci-fi has horror in it) and only those two subjects. We were thinking: DVD/Theatre/TV Reviews - By TV I mean Sci-Fi mini series, TV shows (Buffy (even though I don't care for it), Star Trek, Farscape, Quantum Leap if you wanted too), HBO Movies. B movies that come on HBO/ThrillerMAX etc. Also horror or sci-fi related Anime I would consider sparingly. DVD Releases Box Office Reports with info on the horror or sci-fi movies. Forum Any other ideas? I thought a weekly listing of upcoming horror/sci fi movies that will becoming on the premium movie channels would be cool as well. I think El Satanico has DVD releases covered so this is what we would be looking for: 2-3 Columnists - Opinion pieces, not reviews. 1 Box office grunt 4-5 Reviewers Possibly some mods for the forum. Site Mod with myself and El Satanico.

I'll also do the occasional DVD or theater review. If someone else really wants to do the horror/scifi portion of DVD release coverage, I'll let them.

MrRant Posted October 24, 2003 Author Report Posted October 24, 2003 I like the boards.... The content is interesting but I'm more of a fan of having a main page with more or less regular links instead of the "dead angel" and links off of that. I'm not that artistic anyways.

Downhome Posted October 24, 2003 Report Posted October 24, 2003 If you wanted to get really, depending on how you look at it, morbid/interesting, you could have someone write up columns which would deal with the real horror/sci-fi going ons in the world. Or you could have horror/sci-fi video game reviews, book reviews, etc... An obvious Q&A guy. I'm just trying to think of stuff that would be a bit different.

Problem with getting design Ideas from them is that they are geared completely towards horror. The design for this site needs to also be geared towards sci fi. Also designs of horror websites tend to be dark and far out there with the blood, skulls and other "dark imagery". If you like horror that's your cup of tea, so it's fine. However, to a non horror fan, alot of these site designs would come off as unproffesional and immature. We need something more subdued for this site. I think a good colour scheme would be black/blue/silver. The sci-fi stuff should use a sci fi style font and the horror stuff should use horror style fonts.

I dunno if you could find one, but if you could find a file of the Alien Egg opening, that would be a cool animation/clip to show as you click on the sci-fi section.

The only issue with the seperate design schemes is that I would have almost have 2 sites which isn't a bad thing but being as unartistic as I am it would tad difficult as I would have to have it like this (including both pointing to the same forums): Main Page -> horror.whatever.com/scifi.whatever.com -> forum.whatever.com Perhaps a color scheme that fits both genre's.

I mean you could set the backround with that scenery and then add to it a silouhette of jason or something and then a ufo in the sky, to make the point of it being horror/sci-fi. This is just a rough type idea though........ So what did you have in mind by "crypt-look"?
